October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

Can cope with swearing - but even violence gets me nowadays.

Ds loves Tarantino though Wink

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 15:12

I can't stand real life violence , even folk in town having a square go or whatever, but movie stuff I'm fine with.

DH got into UFC cage fighting during lock down as it was the only "live" sport on. I just shut it out and leave him to it.

Loved Jackie brown, and there's always the godfather and films of that ilk? You'd probably have to look at the parental guide for those too.

Bourne trilogy?

Goingdooolally · 10/10/2020 15:23

Thanks! I’ll look into Jackie Brown. Tarantino freaks me out a bit 🙈 But it sounds quite tame compared to some. Yes we’ve done the Bourne ones- loved them. The Godfather is a shout too, I’ve not actually watched them myself

@anon444877, yep there are loads when you think about it. To be honest we mostly do series nowadays and DSs are adults. We like to find some movies for Christmas time but we've ran out of suitable Christmas themed ones so just try to keep a few good ones unwatched until then, Christmas isn't Christmas without falling asleep watching a movie.

Will need to try to find a few and get organised. I'm thinking maybe The Deer Hunter but will have to spread it over a couple of nights.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 15:30

The reason I suggested the other Tarantino ones first is that although they are more violent is that the plot is probably simpler? Jackie Brown is really one of my faves but it feels more of an adult plot about the relationships (but I think some of that would go over teenagers head and they'd still enjoy). I'd leave Pulp Fiction for a while though :)

The Shawshank Redemption?

Almost all Studio Ghibli films are now available to watch on Netflix if they are into Anime?

Goingdooolally · 10/10/2020 15:31

I’m still scarred by the adrenaline shot to the heart and the gimp scene 🙈

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 15:32

The Revenant is very gory but good.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 15:33

Yeah the gimp scene is one of the more uncomfortable bits to be watching with teenage DC though mine were a couple of years older than yours.

Just got a message from the house owner- they are happy to go ahead so we’re off to the North West! Now I can start packing!Smile

Oh the deer hunter is a classic, so beautiful but sad though.

It is, We've spent the last few years ensuring that DSs get a good grounding on decent movies and a range of music, they can go find what they like and what speaks to them, but there is no way they aren't going to be able to pick up references to classic movies when they come up in conversation. That's sometimes when we end up remembering a film they should watch. We'll be talking about something and then make a reference to something e.g. "I am your farther" and then think, have we all watched that? Grin
RaraRachael · 10/10/2020 15:43

That's great news Goingdoolally have a great time

Goingdooolally · 10/10/2020 15:49

Thank you!!!

I wonder if there’s a list of “must see” films somewhere as that could be quite a fun project to keep us going over winter...

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 16:01

There are as many lists are there are films :o

We look from time to time when we run out of ideas :)

Rocky? Die Hard obviously for Christmas :) We've not done a lot of 80s movies which is about my teen years and felt old as opposed to classic for me. We might be just about getting to that time frame though when they are classics. Ferris Buellers day off?

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 16:04

There are scratch posters for movies I think so you could treat yourselves to one of those and get scratching?

anon444877 · 10/10/2020 17:52

Yes I'm thinking of a classic movie theme too - mine are younger so we're thinking high society, the African Queen, father goose etc

prettybird · 10/10/2020 17:55

We keep on getting recommendations from ds (who accesses my Prime account) about films dh and I should watch, but we never get round to it Blush

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 18:14

@anon444877 Studio Ghibli films are good, Howl's moving castle was DSs favourite, that or Spirited away.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 18:18

Also Fargo? Not seen the movie yet but watched all the series (which are only loosely related) Waiting for DS2 to be home for that though.

anon444877 · 10/10/2020 18:29

Thanks - we'll check them out!

Goingdooolally · 10/10/2020 18:31

Thanks, lots of great ideas there! And yes to the movie poster. Might be a good present for my youngest whose birthday it is soon
