October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

You can go to the gym, alone.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/10/2020 16:27

Think supermarkets will need to add restrictions on alcohol?

Can you imagine, "where do you think you are going with a 6 pack of beer, are you having a party?"

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 16:27

Depends where you live. Where I am all licensed premises will be closed completely. Cafes without an alcohol licence can stay open until 6pm (i think)

PseudoSudocrem · 07/10/2020 16:28

I'm in Midlothian.

AgentCooper · 07/10/2020 16:28

@RaraRachael

Thanks for basically killing off my holiday plans NS. Again, the North are punished. I don't know if I'm angry or upset. I can't take much more of this. That's all the thanks that school staff get for coming back a week early and working in horrible conditions Sad Angry
@RaraRachael can you definitely not go? My sister is also a teacher (ASN secondary) and I know how much you need a break. She and her boyfriend are still going on their planned break to Edinburgh (from Glasgow) for a few nights. Self catering.

Um, why can’t you go on holiday? Unless your plan was to sit inside a pub all day and night drinking alcoholic drinks?
MrsAmaretto · 07/10/2020 16:30

@EasterIssland what's the point of going away for the same humdrum existence of cooking and cleaning that I have at home? I wanted to actually have a break, go somewhere different during the day, eat out in different restaurants that I can't do here.

Just feel like I'm not getting an holiday now. I couldn't go away last month cause I have kids at school, I can't go away after the October holiday because they are at school.

I chose a rural village to holiday in as it's safer, but thinking a trip to an English city might be worth the risk. I just want to have some enjoyment again!!

ActualAl · 07/10/2020 16:33

It is very confusing. We were meant to be travelling from central belt to North Yorkshire for holiday next week. Self catering cottage, no plans to mix households, eat out. Do we still go, can we still go? Technically i think we can but should we? Not sure if we'll be refunded it we don't either. 😵

yeah I see what you mean, unluckily you won't be able to recover the money unless you booked it refundable.

We've booked similar, we will be going. It is necessary for our mental health.
SallySeven · 07/10/2020 16:35

You can go there is no travel ban.

RaraRachael · 07/10/2020 16:37

AgentCooper we were going to a hotel in Edinburgh for 3 nights. I suppose we could still go, but eat takeaways in our room each night Grin. I can't see any other way around it. My OH likes to go for a drink in the evenings so he will just have to be content with drinking in our room

Sickofcovidnow · 07/10/2020 16:38

My wedding can go ahead next week Grin

SallySeven · 07/10/2020 16:38

That good news! Congratulations.

Of course you can still go! The rules of the country you’re in apply, so as soon as you cross the boundary you’re following English guidance and whatever is in place for North Yorkshire (you can definitely still get a glass of wine to enjoy with your meal in a pub there...)
rookiemere · 07/10/2020 16:50

Perhaps I'm suffering from Stockholm syndrome but apart from the impact to the hospitality industry, the personal impact to me as an Edinburgher doesn't seem too bad.

I can still visit my parents. I can still go on planned break to England- not until next Saturday so depends if any changes there- I can still go running with my friend and attend my outdoor exercise class and I can still go for a swim on my own I think.

Bytheloch · 07/10/2020 16:52

Today’s announcement reminds us what a clever virus this is. It will be able to know if you are only drinking Diet Coke in a busy bar (outside the central belt). If you were having alcohol with your meal, it would know and target you on the same premises. It will also know if you’re being safe by sitting outside having a wine and knows not to follow you back inside when you need the toilet, because you will have a mask on for that.

Chickenandrice · 07/10/2020 17:26

Was there anything specified about teachers and children who were previously shielding?

Scotslassie1 · 07/10/2020 17:34

Bytheloch If people get tipsy, so goes out the window...
So happy no travel restrictions!!

BlueThursday · 07/10/2020 17:39

So many businesses who thought they’d managed to make it over the line will be in a poor position now it’s awful

RosemaryTelephoneOperator · 07/10/2020 17:53

Chickenandrice Just mentioned that people who are in the shielding category in the Central Belt should take extra care and look at the SG website to see infection rates in their area.

throwingawaymyshot · 07/10/2020 17:53

I have a big birthday last weekend in October when restrictions will (hopefully) be restricted. Had to cancel my holiday abroad - will I be able to go a weekend in Scotland? Had been holding off to see what the lockdown was. Do I book or do I not bother in case she extends the 2 weeks for an extra week?

throwingawaymyshot · 07/10/2020 17:55

it was a weekend at a hotel in the central belt.

Sickofcovidnow · 07/10/2020 18:00

I don’t think it’s that hard to understand why the restrictions seem very alcohol centred tbh and even though not everyone turns into an idiot when they’re drunk, obviously enough do that they needed to this and same with the original 10pm thing.

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 18:01

You would be ok as long as you ate in cafes or in the hotel. If she extends it then no restaurants or pubs would be open
