October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

If that Sun leak is correct it makes a mockery of everything that has gone on so far.

SNP imposed the ban on households as this was apparently the major cause of transit the time. When questioned why pubs remained open but household mixing banned it was claimed that pubs and bars were safer due to their Covid procedures. And now they are potentially saying that pubs are a source of transmission after all?

Keepmeawayfromthebuffet · 07/10/2020 14:12

I’m ok with the restrictions for 16 days if it means no travel restrictions and people can still go on holiday.

I know it’s not great for the hospitality industry (which I work in) but they have to do something to try stop the spread IMO.

WouldBeGood · 07/10/2020 14:17

There’s no point going in holiday in Scotland if nothing is open 🤷🏻‍♀️

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/10/2020 14:18

It's all a mockery, what happens when they open back up and numbers go up again? Back to lock down or other restrictions? Lke forever?

Enough of this nonsense.

Even if they get a vaccine, it won't be 100% efficient anyway.

I've not seen the figures, but deaths and hospitalisations from respiratory illness are pretty much within normal levels. Like exactly the same as they are from normals flus etc. Yes, I get it's not flu but the same things are effective, like not visiting your sick granny when you are ill.

Beyond fucked off now.

anon444877 · 07/10/2020 14:24

Yes I reckon a repeating pattern of 'restrictions that are not a full lockdown' and shaming and finger pointing til we get to a longer term strategy in spring. 6 more months...

It's worrying we've gotten to this reaction already by early October.

Keepmeawayfromthebuffet · 07/10/2020 14:26

So what would you suggest @WaxOnFeckOff?

Would you be happy for all restrictions to be lifted? If cases and deaths went up would you be ok with that? Or would you then be complaining the government should have done more?

I’d hate to have to be making these decisions. You’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t

Ecosse · 07/10/2020 14:30

@Keepmeawayfromthebuffet

What we need is an effective track and tracing system that allows us to manage and live with this virus.

Sturgeon has had 6 months to get this working and she has failed to do so.

readsalotgirl63 · 07/10/2020 14:31

@dancemom - completely agree this makes no sense. If transmission is mainly via people meeting in each others house then surely it makes more sense to encourage people to meet in venues where social distancing can be ensured. Confused

anon444877 · 07/10/2020 14:32

I'm not sure that we shouldn't move to a better package of support for vulnerable people and free up cohorts who want to take risks.

I agree it's not easy but that's where I think we should head, over the next 6 months anyway.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/10/2020 14:33

@Keepmeawayfromthebuffet

So what would you suggest *@WaxOnFeckOff*?

Would you be happy for all restrictions to be lifted? If cases and deaths went up would you be ok with that? Or would you then be complaining the government should have done more?

I’d hate to have to be making these decisions. You’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t

yes, i'd be happy for restrictions to be lifted but arrangements made to facilitate those who want or need to shield.

Then carefully monitor levels of people who are actually ill with covid/die from covid rather than just testing positive.

In the meantime get some proper testing in place to monitor levels of who actually has active, infectious covid rather than the current tests that could be people who just have traces of the infection.

I agree in the early days it was difficult to know the best course of action, but we are more than 6 months in and just doing the same things.

it's the mark of an idiot to keep doing the same things and expecting a different result.

celtiethree · 07/10/2020 14:34

Someone posted this on twitter - see additional measures. ‘Community volunteers to support and encourage self-isolation’! Not long until we find out for sure.

Also quite unhappy about the extra measures in central belt - should be more granular. Gym classes have only really started getting going again.

October lockdown?
dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 14:37

They better not steal my gum classes away, they've just started back!

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/10/2020 14:40

@dementedpixie

Do they teach you how to blow bubbles? Grin
Chickenandrice · 07/10/2020 14:41

I am not an expert by any means. But I would expect that the biggest source of transmission is probably schools and mixing between households in private homes. I expect pubs and restaurants also to an extent but not with the strict guidelines they have in place. With schools staying open. And with people just ignoring the rule not to go in to each other’s houses. There is probably not going to be much reduction in cases from these rules unfortunately. I am not sure what the answer is

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/10/2020 14:43

Loving the restrictions to only being open outdoors, just as well we don't live in a cold dark rainy windy country - oh wait....!

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 14:46

@WaxOnFeckOff ha ha Grin. Dont have my specs on so didn't notice my typo. They can't take my gym classes either!

Requinblanc · 07/10/2020 14:47

What would be the point?

People are plainly able to see that the full lockdown we had has not worked and many of the local lockdowns since have failed to achieve anything.

Plus people are starting to question the madness of locking everyone in and destroying the economy/jobs/affecting the health of people with other conditions.

Good luck with trying to enforce another lockdown too...

Johnston also knows the knives will be out for him if he tries to repeat a national lockdown.

So no. It won't happen if they have any sense and if it does it will not end well.

throwingawaymyshot · 07/10/2020 14:58

Situation better than March? Is she having a laugh?

@BrazenlyDefying I got an email from my DDs school, are you just outside Glasgow?

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/10/2020 15:00

and a good day to bury bad news?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-54439758

So we've had covid Maggie - now is it Dementia Nicky? Hmm

Allourboys · 07/10/2020 15:00

FINALLY!

Friendsoftheearth · 07/10/2020 15:06

NS sounds like she has had far far too much coffee, and sounds very nervous - unsually.

She is just justifying closing licensed premises, pub closures.

celtiethree · 07/10/2020 15:07

So hospitality is open apart from where most of the population is - so most hospitality impacted - and we need to stay in our health board areas! Well at least Forth Valley is quite large.

No gym classes 😢

Friendsoftheearth · 07/10/2020 15:07

Hospitality closure for 16 days.

aquamarine1 · 07/10/2020 15:07

Fuck me - this is appalling. Blame straight to hospitality, in contradiction to the household ban rationale they spouted. This will not work, SG must know that.

Chickenandrice · 07/10/2020 15:08

I don’t think it will work. But I have no idea what will
