October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

@iskwobel, curtail our social lives a bit?
I am not sure where you have been living for the past 7 months, but we are a step away from becoming a penal colony.
Look how well it worked out over the summer with the zero Covid strategy in place.

aquamarine1 · 07/10/2020 13:13

I couldn't disagree more I'm afraid. Living between the western isles and an area of 'high' cases, I would be horrified if a curtailing of travel was imposed, never mind of socialising.

Ecosse · 07/10/2020 13:13

@iskwobel

It’s not just about ‘curtailing our social lives’- the hospitality sector employs tens of thousands of people. The vast majority of whom will not exactly be rolling in it as it is.

Anyway it looks like the announcement has been leaked- pubs to close for 16 days and restaurants banned from serving alcohol.

Looks like thousands of business closures and job losses it is then.

Anymore than it has been I mean!

aquamarine1 · 07/10/2020 13:14

I really hope that the administration is challenged in court for this.

anon444877 · 07/10/2020 13:15

It's hardly a question of simply not getting pissed with mates - social life is vital to mental health and has many aspects. Let's hope it's not as bad as we fear it maybe today!

WouldBeGood · 07/10/2020 13:20

That would be complete annihilation for hospitality businesses.

ClarencesMum · 07/10/2020 13:24

Leaked my arse.

Sorry that isnt a nice thought...

celtiethree · 07/10/2020 13:29

They may as well completely close hospitality with those restrictions. Not saying that you have to have alcohol but they seem to be determined to make everything as joyless as possible. No music, no alcohol, no friends. I think I may look to go somewhere outside Scotland for the October break after all.

Ecosse · 07/10/2020 13:33

Sturgeon needs better behavioural scientists if she thinks closing the pubs will just make people sit at home.

People are already heading into houses due to the 10pm curfew and many will now just spend all night round at a mate’s.

Surely we’re much better with people socialising in a controlled environment, preserving the economy and jobs at the same time.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/10/2020 13:37

so yes, all the shite about how it was spreading in houses and not in pubs was - well - shite!

I don't even drink and it's fucking me off.

BrazenlyDefying · 07/10/2020 13:38

And oh joy - just had an email that there is a case in my children's secondary school and that track and trace might be in touch. They're obviously not doing that "whole years stay off" stuff.

WouldBeGood · 07/10/2020 13:43

This is really like being treated like naughty children

celtiethree · 07/10/2020 13:45

And why lump harsher restrictions against all of the central belt - that catches some fairly rural areas that don’t have much infection.

ClarencesMum · 07/10/2020 13:45

Fingers crossed for you! We had two cases in a week in my sons year and only close contacts were contacted.
iskwobel · 07/10/2020 13:49

I know people in this thread are curtailing their social lives but there are a hard core who just won't. Going to the pub, meeting up in groups, ignoring physical distancing and this is affecting everyone's freedom. Maybe they should be asked to protect themselves and everyone else can get on with being sensible!

Lazt · 07/10/2020 13:58

So storm in a tea cup for the vast majority of us. Since WFH I’ve not been in a pub, but so many have been so anxious about up coming holiday (within Scotland for 99%) next week over the October break. And the tourism industry no doubt! Why could they have not made this explicitly clear from the outset??

I know it’s not all about holidays but for so many who’ve had this to look forward to it’s been really stressful.

Sadly we were going to stay with family in another part of the country and that was canned when the household indoor restrictions came in.

Lazt · 07/10/2020 13:59

Ha it’s not actually official yet is it?!

rookiemere · 07/10/2020 13:59

Oh well I'm glad we did the wine matching at Six by Nico last night. Might have a go at brewing some potential

rookiemere · 07/10/2020 13:59

Poteen not potential bloody spell check

Arkadia · 07/10/2020 14:00

Or perhaps we should just get on with our lives and protect those that need protecting.

BrazenlyDefying · 07/10/2020 14:01

We had a couple of the "At Home" boxes from Six By Nico over the lockdown. Having for to properly cook was a JOY.
titsbumfannythelot · 07/10/2020 14:02

I don't think I can bear to even watch her on tv this afternoon.

How will Scottish tourism ever recover from this kick in the stomach.

rookiemere · 07/10/2020 14:06

@titsbumfannythelot I never watch them. The bbc website does a handy, almost real time synopsis

Allourboys · 07/10/2020 14:08

Cue the booze shelves in the supermarket being emptied!
