Any appetite for a continuance or have I missed the new thread?
There was quite a heated squabble respectful exchange of views so I am sure there is more to be said......

Now now fontella I'll buy a bottle if you buy a half bottle of gin and a half of scotch

I'm a wine drinker myself. None of that continental shit either. Grin

It's Chilean Red for me. We are their second biggest market behind the US and in front of China - and when you think of the size of their populations compared to ours - I'm not the only Brit who is a fan.

Like I said - it's a big old world out there and it extends far beyond Brussels!

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 12:17

I'm a cider drinker... I know....Massive surprise

Orchards and vineyards are springing up all over the wield due to the moderate climate increases.

I do like a glass of red and the occasional whisky too right enough.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 12:21

"Countries smaller and less wealthy than the UK function perfectly well outside of political/fiscal unions"

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 12:29

Interestingly I do love drinking stuff that is produced in the uk... There is quite high level of support for UK produce where I originally came from, such as support for local orchards and vineyards as well as scotch whisky and welsh lamb (must be a weird local thing) etc... I don't know what attachment there will be to scotch whisky if we are not in the uk. I hope it wouldn't change it but the reality is that it will for some (how many I do not know). If it is more expensive than it already is by tariffs being added then other drinks may become more popular.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 12:33

Ooar ooar ay indeedy me deery!!!

Fontella · 21/03/2017 12:34

""Countries smaller and less wealthy than the UK function perfectly well outside of political/fiscal unions"

Yep but unless I'm mistaken an independent Scotland is planning on signing up to a politic/fiscal union? And one that has an appalling track record with poorer/smaller countries particularly those shackled to the euro, which Scotland will inevitably be.

There is also the small matter of the EU loathing nationalism in all its forms. This is one of the great ironies of all. Scottish Nationalists signing up to an institution that is committed to the erosion of the nation state?

Why do you think Jim Sillars and other passionate Scottish nationalists are so opposed to it?

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/03/2017 12:40

Hopefully the tories can be relied upon to negotiate a good deal on expensive italian and french red wines :) Is that one thing you can trust a tory for?

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 12:51

Now tell me Scottish people are any different to the english or the welsh or the northern irish.

division where there is none caused by sturgeon.

Fontella · 21/03/2017 13:14

If we're going to be crystal ball gazing about post-Brexit UK .. then let's add a few more predictions into the mix:

Apple CEO
Britain will be 'just fine' post-Brexit
timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/uk/britain-will-be-just-fine-post-brexit-apple-ceo/articleshow/57081332.cms

..........

And there are many more reports, that fly in the face of all the gloom and doom post-Brexit predictions.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 13:32

I think it is only realistic that there'll be a few bumps in the road....

but...there is both good news and bad and there is a possibility that in the long term brexit will be a good thing. Our balance for negotiations with the eu is pretty good.

Can't say the same for scoxit I'm afraid. One of the problems is the trading balance and the likelihood that the rest of the union will be mighty pissed off and without any particular requirement or need trade with Scotland. It is a hit they might be willing to take. In Scotlands case it is a hit that would definately cripple us and with Scottish citizenship we wont be able to just up and go to London and we would all be trapped in a hell hole. The pissy games the SNP are playing with the uks defence will piss the rest of the uk off enough that care for Scotland after independence will not enter their heads.

It's ok thinking it will all be ok and they love us and our whisky, but with the behaviour of sturgeon and her claiming repeatedly to speak for all of us...I'm not so sure.

Posted the wrong song by accident upthread so please ignore.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 13:42

Sturgeon has really upset the apple-cart so to speak

PMSL.....ROTFL....

Fontella · 21/03/2017 13:44

It just pisses me off that when it comes to Scottish Independence the future's bright and rosy.

When it comes to UK independence it's all doom and gloom.

The UK is in a far, far better position to thrive independently than Scotland. The fact that Scotland will be going cap in hand back to Brussels immediately it gets its independence says it all.

But according to the SNP Scotland is going to become this wonderful socialist utopia and rUK is going down the shitter.

The UK has only been in the EU for four decades. Just four decades. Scotland hasn't been an independent country for over 300 years!! It's not rocket science to figure out who is better placed to be successful, but the fervour of nationalism seems to override all common sense.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 13:45

She is giving us Scots a really bad name

one bad apple spoils the barrel and all that!!!

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 13:47

Unfortunately in this barrel we have quite a few rotters and it is spreading.

Yes and Brussels know it. If we did get in after lots of sucking up and begging the deal would be absolutely horrific.

FT on impact of leaving EU for U.K.

Have you seen how old that article is ffs?

It even quotes Obama saying the 'UK would go to the back of the queue'.

I think you'll find we've jumped to the front of the queue since then and Obama is long gone.

Nearly every single prediction in that FT article of predictions written JUST 6 DAYS after the Brexi vote when everyone was predicting economic armageddon, has been debunked. George Osborne, Mark Carney - all of them admit they got it wrong!

The sky hasn't fallen yet and it isn't likely to.

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/03/2017 14:00

although Carney should be credited with stabilizing the markets well post-Brexit, the bank of england made several announcements to the effect that they'd fight the economic consequences with everything they'd got, Carney's post-brexit statements were very reassuring. Scotland has no such group of competent central bankers poised to ensure market stability.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/03/2017 14:00

It's almost painful to watch Angus Robertson trying to wriggle out of answering why the 'will of the people' no longer matters. Apparently, despite talking endlessly about polls when they are in their favour (or even show an increase in support) the polls are irrelevant when they don't go their way. Furthermore, everyone who voted SNP did so because they support another referendum. There you have it folks - forget whatever Nicola says or has said on this point in the past, a vote for the SNP will ALWAYS be taken to mean a vote for independence.

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/03/2017 14:02

is anyone else wondering whether Sturgeon has finally shown her feet of clay? I feel she's woefully misjudged the timing of this push for independence.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 14:04

This article makes the bold assumption that we will not only step away from FREE trade, but stop trading ALL TOGETHER with eu countries and in one graph showed us stopping trading with the eu and all countries that had a free trade deal with the eu.

Very dramatic... Germany would be pretty peed off too and it would not be helpful for them.
