Any appetite for a continuance or have I missed the new thread?
There was quite a heated squabble respectful exchange of views so I am sure there is more to be said......

Cheeseandcrackers is spot on - although we have an SNP MP this area is very solid on no to independence and remain in EU. We get very few leaflets through the door from any party and certainly no door knockers. We've lived here 10 years and have had no callers ever about votes.

It's all very well the SNP preaching to the converted but if they are doing nothing to engage with the people who don't support them. I've been blocked by the SNP MP on twitter for pointing out his campaign photo was 25 years old and wondering if wasn't just a wee bit vain.

The SNP like to say they're representing everyone but they're really not.

cheeseandcrackers77 · 17/03/2017 19:41

Yes he really made a fool of himself with his out of date picture. I nearly fell off my seat when I saw him on TV the night of the count. I said who the hell is that lol

We have a neighbour who puts a big NS picture in his window at election time. I don't understand that but no one round the doors.

Nyx · 17/03/2017 19:44

So your area is no to indy and yes to remaining in EU? Shame that's not an option now. Perhaps some of the remainers might start thinking about a yes to indy vote...

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 17/03/2017 19:47

Perhaps some of the remainers might start thinking about a yes to indy vote...

Nope. We have had page after page on why no voters are unlikely to change. Even Sturgeon is realising the EU isn't quite the draw she thought

QueenLaBeefah · 17/03/2017 19:51

One of the things I took into consideration when I voted remain was my desire to not give the SNP another excuse for a referendum. I would imagine that applies to a lot of Scottish voters which might explain why the brexit bit has had no discernible effect of the yes vote.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Sturgeon finally paying attention to her day job. If I was her I'd start on education. After all she said we could judge her on her record regarding education.

Nyx · 17/03/2017 19:59

Nice series of short films here on people who have made the change from no to yes: www.youtube.com/channel/UCGVfektAXlCjoMy70ftQBkA/videos
So it is possible, despite your page after page on why it's unlikely Smile

QueenLaBeefah · 17/03/2017 20:01

I won't click on your link as I have a feeling that they were always yes voters.

Maybe Sturgeon could perhaps think of reforming council tax as that was in their manifesto? After all she'll have some spare time if a referendum isn't going to be in a couple of years.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 17/03/2017 20:07

So it is possible, despite your page after page on why it's unlikely

Maybe so. However I would want to see it from a less bias source that a channel that claims to be 'filming for independence' Wink

Well I was brave and watched one ...an American woman who had a business and kept going on about how important it was to stay in the EU ... obviously she didn't realise Scotland will be out of the EU for a good while anyway -no matter what -plenty of time to get used to any changes in procedure....
She said she voted No last time round (to stay in the EU...) but felt guilty when her Yes voting colleagues were so disappointed.... so I guess that's a bit like if your toddler cries cos you say they will be sick so can't have another ice cream - so you give them another ice cream...cos it is better they are sick than disappointed...Hmm
She also grew up with segregation in the US ...I think that was part of her reasoning why being in the EU was a positive thing (actually was quite bored by then so not really listening) - she said she didn't like divisive things ..(face palm...not like another indyref vote then?)
I won't be watching another one - thank you.

TinfoilHattie · 17/03/2017 20:32

Nice series of short films here on people who have made the change from no to yes:

Aye right.

Thegruffalowswife · 17/03/2017 20:59

I signed the petition. I think it needed to be done.

I have read the yes one and was disgusted though so that might be why less people have signed.

It basically screams... we're wonderful the english are westmonster racists so we need to be independent to escape the clutches of our evil nasty neighbours.

Nyx · 17/03/2017 21:15

Nobody watching the one on Tom Morton or Mike Dailly? Both previously Better Together campaigners Smile (and of course they are filmed by Indy supporters, Unionists would hardly be shouting about it Wink)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/03/2017 21:19

I agree . The Yes petition is embarrassing and not a positive for the yes movement. Labelling No voters bigots and racists is just not on.

Thegruffalowswife · 17/03/2017 21:26

Thank it'sall it is good to hear someone say that.

Nyx · 17/03/2017 21:27

I haven't looked at that petition and don't think I will bother now Shock

QueenLaBeefah · 17/03/2017 21:28

Why not start a more positive pro defending petition. See how that gets on?

Thegruffalowswife · 17/03/2017 21:32

I agreed with how the no referendum one was written, as it is how I feel, but it doesn't slag off yes voters, just the actions of the snp. I wish it had just stuck to "we do not want another referendum" as I thought it would attract more people, but then I do think a lot of people are feeling completely betrayed by the snp at the moment.

Calyx72 · 17/03/2017 22:05

#notoyes

On Twitter

Thegruffalowswife · 17/03/2017 22:23

It's a bit like tracy ullman when ns kidnapped jk rowling and made her tweet that she was converted lol...

NoLotteryWinYet · 17/03/2017 22:35

Maybe we should make some YouTube films about why we're still no voters when we get there...based on evidence when we have the full details of the Brexit deal. I'm happy to play the game at this level if we need to...

cdtaylornats · 17/03/2017 23:16

Even if the SNP win the next referendum we will keep them in court for years and insist on Indyref3. Might as well make it best out of 3.

PlectrumElectrum · 18/03/2017 02:08

Don't know if this has already been referenced but Sky News link on Gordon Brown's take on Brexit/indyref2.

Could Gordon do another Gordon for a possible indyref2.

I need to read other sources & digest this but if this is a plausible 3rd option for Scotland is there any credible opposition to take up this mantle & run with it?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/03/2017 04:00

Nope because Sturgeon wants independence at any cost. She is not interested in what is best for Scotland. Eck failed and Sturgeon wants the glory of being the leader who won our freedom.

On other news I see the Nats, in a quite breathtaking act of hypocrisy, have decided to introduce the Nordic model for prostitution - 5 years after they blocked Rhoda Grant's bill.

Now I thoroughly approve of this but this but what prompted the volte face?

NoLotteryWinYet · 18/03/2017 06:54

Could be interesting plectrum, quite like this idea although would need to read more - and it would need to be presented in a way that didn't allow a no vote in a referendum to be splintered.

QueenLaBeefah · 18/03/2017 07:17

There is no point in trying to appease the SNP. They will find some grievance even when they themselves have signed it. They don't use all the powers at their disposal anyway.

What most people would like is for the SNP to stop droning on about constitutional matters and do the day job. They must stop neglecting Scotland in favour of their pet project.
