In despair. Absolutely in despair. Do we have to go through this again? And with such a long lead up to the referendum? Really? What happened to the settled will of the Scottish people?

@statisticallychallenged Will you help me get through this again? (Was Roseformeplease then).

I don't think an SNP-labour alliance is good for labour, no, it's accepting the SNP's view that they are a left wing party (if welfare was their main priority they'd not have pushed independence so hard when the economic cass doesn't stack up), and labour should be beating the SNP in scotland - an alliance would be an acceptance of failure surely.

NoLotteryWinYet · 29/05/2017 19:13

How would it work too - they don't agree on independence or Brexit. I reckon the SNP would have a field day 'supporting' labour and highlighting their incompetence.

Arkadia · 29/05/2017 20:08

But why would JC say something like that? To prop up the conservative vote? It just doesn't make any sense now. It may just split the SNP vote enough so that more Tories get in.

CreamCol0uredP0nies · 29/05/2017 20:20

Talk about shifting the goalposts. Has Kezia said anything to that effect?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 29/05/2017 20:39

Jeremy Corbyn has said he will "open discussions" with the Scottish government over an independence referendum if he wins the election.
(From the BBC website)
Isn't that good news?

Good news? For whom ?

NoLotteryWinYet · 29/05/2017 21:18

sure isn't good news for Kezia - their leaflets say labour - the only ones that can stand against the SNP.

That rings a bit hollow when we know that McDonnell and Corbyn were never solidly pro-union and Kezia has been a thorn in Corbyn's side.

Arkadia · 29/05/2017 22:11

I was being sarcastic, although I do think it is good news if you are Tory leaning.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 29/05/2017 22:24

Oh sorry Arkadia Yes, it has firmed up 2 reluctant Tory voters in this house.

NoLotteryWinYet · 30/05/2017 06:46

Today programme is saying Scotland being in the single market is going to be in the SNP manifesto - how are they going to achieve that with both Westminster parties promising immigration controls? It just shows again them setting up their next argument for independence.

rogueantimatter · 30/05/2017 14:07

Hello everyone.

I'm in a libdem/ snp marginal constituency. I'm going to vote libdem to keep the snp out. The snp candidate came to the door and told me it was marginal between snp and the cons! Not according to the electoral calculus or the 2015 GE it isn't. I assume he stayed to talk only because I told him I was going to vote tactically to keep cons out and because I'm not in favour of Scottish independence. He tried the 'this election is about Brexit' card so I told him it was my vote and I would vote according to my priorities. Grin He tried to argue that the snp would give a better result for Scottish agriculture (having ascertained that I'm originally from a predominantly rural constituency) but as I would like the best result for the farmers of UK I wasn't convinced. Twice he mentioned that he was a journalist as though that was going to impress me Grin It was hard not to stare at his shiny bleached teeth but I think I managed. He didn't come across as particularly likeable and definitely not ethical. DS and friends saw him at their school and thought he was a loudmouth.

In the (unlikely) event of a labour/snp coalition I will be furious if JC allowed another indy ref. What a waste of time and energy when there are so many other pressing things. I can't begin to describe how disappointed I'd be if there was a vote in favour of Scotland becoming independent.

I'd vote labour if they had a chance of getting in because of and despite JC. I get the impression that he is fairly thoughtful and principled, but that he's not good at being pragmatic or diplomatic. It's so frustrating.

I wish interviewers would pull politicians up when they resort to unfounded personal attacks on other politicians. I suppose this makes for better entertainment value than being professional. I agree that it's all quite depressing.

trixymalixy · 30/05/2017 17:52

Corbyn can GTF. I was wavering back to voting Labour, but not if they're not strong enough on indyref2.

NoLotteryWinYet · 30/05/2017 21:48

election2017.ifs.org.uk/article/the-snp-s-fiscal-plans-and-scotland-s-fiscal-position

Independence - Scotland would need to magic up 4% economic growth...

trixymalixy · 03/06/2017 12:47

Oh my lord!! Have you seen the speaker line up at the Indy march today?! I would almost go for some amusement.

Sean Clerkin and Tommy Sheridan!

Nutters for Indy.

cheeseandcrackers77 · 03/06/2017 15:45

I don't get the marches. The speakers are just preaching to the converted. I can not see how they are going to persuade anyone to join the yes side (or dark side as we call it in this house lol).

NoLotteryWinYet · 03/06/2017 16:04

I can't think any sort of march does much except make the already converted feel like they are showing strength

trixymalixy · 03/06/2017 16:30

Apparently the SNP were trying to stop it going ahead as they know it does them no favours. Lesley riddoch and the greens were supposed to be speaking but pulled out at the last minute because of Sheridan's involvement.

WankersHacksandThieves · 03/06/2017 16:49

I'd like to ask each of the marchers today how much they personally are willing to pay out of their pockets for a more equal society and get them to sign up a direct debit directly payable to their choice of local Food bank, Care home, Hospital/GP or school. I wonder how that would go down?

Personally I'm happy to pay more (probably currently sitting about average in terms of household income) if I was assured it wasn't going to be chucked down one of the SNP black holes and actually spent on something constructive....and I wouldn't vote for the SNP if they were the only party on the ballot paper.

NoLotteryWinYet · 03/06/2017 17:35

I always joke I'll only cast a vote for the SNP if one of my DC is the candidate :)

NoLotteryWinYet · 03/06/2017 17:36

Also, agreed, no problem with sensible tax rises for competent governance.

WankersHacksandThieves · 03/06/2017 18:26

If one of my DC became an SNP candidate they would no longer be my DC and I would feel that I'd failed as a parent :o

HamletsSister · 03/06/2017 18:32

I would rather visit DS and DD in prison than at SNP HQ!

WankersHacksandThieves · 03/06/2017 18:34

I was going to say that too Hamlets :)

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/06/2017 19:28

I always joke I'll only cast a vote for the SNP if one of my DC is the candidate

I'd disown mine.

NoLotteryWinYet · 03/06/2017 21:27

Yes, hopefully I'll avoid spending my twilight years shoving SNP leaflets through people's letter boxes :) I've got a sister who was a huge fan of Corbyn until she got involved with his team to try and sort housing issues out though and said that their ideas were so unworkable she despaired.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/06/2017 01:25

My son is voting Labour. He is as died in the wool Unionist as his parents. Labour are currently quoted at 100 to 1 in our constituency with Lib Dems at 2 to 5. My work is cut out for me.
