In despair. Absolutely in despair. Do we have to go through this again? And with such a long lead up to the referendum? Really? What happened to the settled will of the Scottish people?

@statisticallychallenged Will you help me get through this again? (Was Roseformeplease then).

I will catch up on QT later but I often think the QT audience is more populist than reflecting on how people actually vote, it's more like theatre in some ways.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/05/2017 12:29

Electoral calculus gas some interesting predictions; looking at Edinburgh
South - con gain from labour
South West - con gain from snp but on a knife edge
East - snp hold
West - snp hold but a rise in Tory votes
North and Leith - showing snp hold but knife edge with the Tories.

SNP knocked on my door today. This is a FIRST as no one ever goes door to door in our remote corner of Scotland. I immediately panicked. Genuinely started breathing in a sort of dog panting way, hear racing. And then I hid. Not just round the corner but in a kind of I am bring searched for by a man with a gun way, flattened against a wall. This has never happened to me before. I am loud, confident, argumentative.

The kids thought I was nuts. DS (16, very tall so looks older) had to take over. He answered the door and took them on.

I was able to calm down slowly and listen to him telling them that he is a member of the Labour Party (true) and that he has no vote in the GE as too young. But they were wasting time with his Mum and Dad as wherever we float it will NEVER be the SNP.

This is still the residue left from the referendum isn't it?

I have canvassed myself, been fairly active politically, love a debate etc.

But I turned to jelly and had a panic attack of sorts.

We had them at the door too. Boy was under 20, if i wasn't halfway through my toastie i'd have engaged him in conversation about the fuckwit he was canvassing for. I had to settle for a "No, no-one in interested in the SNP here"

they weren't getting much joy in the street.

cheeseandcrackers77 · 20/05/2017 22:00

Haven't had anyone at the door yet but a neighbour about 14 houses up from me has for the past few years always had tons of SNP/Yes posters in all his front windows and a picture of NS. This time round nothing. He could of course be waiting till nearer the time to put them up but I am fairly surprised not a single poster could it be some of their die hard supporters are turning away from them?

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/05/2017 07:16

We haven't had an SNP leaflet or a door knocker although had a conservative one. They usually have a stall in the market near us though most weekends that I have to walk past with a grimace.

Bejazzled · 21/05/2017 21:09

We have on,y had the Labour man so far. To be fair he was very nice and took my ABC (anyone but Corbyn) explanation very well. I suspect he was hearing a lot of that.

BarbRoyle · 21/05/2017 21:28

I am English and have lived in Scotland for 20 years. Love Scotland (as i do England). My husband is Scottish. The first time I have EVER felt uncomfortable/unwelcome in Scotland was during the last referendum. Dreading it. Dont feel comfortable stating my opinion (we are a tiny island, why carve us up into smaller parts?) in case I'm seen as 'anti-scottish' ...sigh 😕 Maybe Scotland would be better independent - i dont think so, but i would be accepting of whatever the people want. It's just that feeling of annoyance that the SNP didnt accept what the majority voted for last time.

trixymalixy · 21/05/2017 21:53

I've gone from living in an out of the way area, where no one ever chapped the door to pretty much on a main road. I'm dying for the SNP to come knocking so I can give them a piece of my mind.

I'll probably be put on a list to be taken out and shot in the event of independence though!

Bejazzled · 21/05/2017 22:07

That's going to be a long list trixy🙂

HamletsSister · 21/05/2017 22:24

Anyone watch the Leaders' debate tonight? Kezia was on fire on Education.

Tomorrowisanewday · 21/05/2017 22:28

I came on to ask the same Hamlet!
Kezia was better than I've seen her in ages, even the pundits at the end commented.
But the nurse in the audience was the star of the show

HamletsSister · 21/05/2017 22:34

She (the nurse) was brilliant.

OP posts:
Bejazzled · 21/05/2017 22:44

That nurse is currently being destroyed on social media by the cybernatz, accused of being the wife of a Tory counseller, a BUPA nurse who was also on QT last week.
I don't think it is the same person but the BBC should clarify.

Where are all my No-mates?
trixymalixy · 21/05/2017 22:51

The nurse has said on twitter that as she didn't get a chance to ask her question on QT she was asked back. Does look a bit weird though.

Bejazzled · 21/05/2017 23:09

Gives the conspiracy theorists food to feast on

Bejazzled · 21/05/2017 23:20

mobile.twitter.com/nickeardleybbc

Bbc have clarified and the SNP have been forced to retract and apologise for believing and publicising cybernat rumours.
Shameful.

trixymalixy · 22/05/2017 08:31

The hypocrisy is unbelievable. I bet the same people that are with hunting that poor nurse on twitter were lambasting Theresa May for her comments on nurses using food banks.

NoLotteryWinYet · 22/05/2017 10:26

yes, I'm probably on that list too! I missed the debate, was out getting sloshed and watching rubbish at the cinema - will catch up tonight, I'm excited to see Kezia improving the presentation of her arguments.

morningtoncrescent62 · 22/05/2017 10:32

I thought that too. I'm a Labour leftie and I usually feel a bit despairing about Kezia's public speaking abilities, but I thought she did really well last night.

My constituency seems lost beyond all redemption to the Nats. Every single forecast is showing it as an SNP hold which isn't surprising as they were about 30 percentage points ahead last time. On the upside, my street isn't quite the sea of yellow posters it's been in recent elections. Perhaps I can hope for a reduced majority?

Fontella · 22/05/2017 10:37

Kezia was better than I've seen her in ages, even the pundits at the end commented.

I've only recently been watching debates in the Scottish Parliament, and I am seriously impressed by the quality of the opposition to the SNP - from all sides. They give Nicola Sturgeon hell and it's a joy to behold, as down here we tend to get the impression that everyone in Scotland is an SNP supporter and adores wee Nicola! It is only through reading Scotsnet that I discovered that isn't the case.

I love watching the other parties tearing into the SNP in the Scottish Parliament, and it's great to know that they are being held to account.

WankersHacksandThieves · 22/05/2017 11:11

I haven't watched it but according to DH he says that Kezia was the only one who came across as genuinely caring.

Tomorrowisanewday · 22/05/2017 11:54

Ruth Davidson didn't deliver nearly as well as she normally does. She seemed a bit rattled, probably with all the Tory party points that were being delivered last week that she had to deflect last night. She's on the other side of the political spectrum from the one I could vote for, but you can normally rely on her to challenge Nicola well, with valid issues, and from what I've heard of her, she does care about her constituents.
But, yes, Kezia was the only one who showed she had a heart.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 22/05/2017 12:51

Even if the nurse were married to a Tory councillor she still has the right to be heard.

Where are all my No-mates?
flippinada · 22/05/2017 15:02

Haven't posted on here for a wee while but came to see what folk were saying about Nursegate as it's all over my social media feeds. And it's not a pretty sight.

People are absolutely gunning for that woman - vicious, horrible stuff. Going through her social media feeds to find something they can discredit her with. The irony is if someone had done the same to T May they'd be cheering her from the rafters.
