😳

Will your vote change next time?

OP posts:
ClaudiaNaughton · 13/03/2017 22:03

I don't live in Scotland so don't have a vote. But last time I hoped very much you'd vote to stay and this time I'll be hoping you grab the chance to leave.

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:04

And it's even In the guardian... a paper which I don't enjoy.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 13/03/2017 22:05

Do I get to apply for Scottish Passport if my grandad was from Edinburgh??

I don't want a Scottish passport. If my British passport is taken off me I will not apply for a Scottish passport.

I was just about to post the video link to Salmond laying out (not for the first time) that it was a once in a generation event, but No got there first. In that same interview he defines a political generation as 18-20 years too, and makes the bizarre claim that he sees No voters as deferred Yes votes which strikes me as somewhat arrogant.

It's interesting to see just how many times NS made that claim! I also remember 'a vote for the SNP is not necessarily a vote for independence' - aye right!

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:05

She said once in a lifetime in the clip above too.

MrsAmaretto · 13/03/2017 22:07

No before and no now.

I do not see the point of another referendum when we haven't even had the consequences of Brexit referendum.

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:07

I'm going to live til I am 135 so we've only got nearly 100 years to wait.

D1az · 13/03/2017 22:08

Not really, Daytona. Of course I can't speak for everyone, but in my home country there is a lot of admiration for Scotland (after all, I am here Grin).
Maybe not everyone supports the idea, but I wouldn't say Scotland is a laughing stock. The truth is, a lot of people are indifferent. IME, more people I know paid much more attention to Brexit and weren't pleased about it. I was at home in the weeks immediately before the independence referendum and only saw one newspaper mention it, come to think of it.

MelinaMercury · 13/03/2017 22:08

Well I was going to link but yes, I do apologise seems like I misquoted but I still think "once in a generation" is laughable when they've started banging on again in what is clearly far less than a generational gap.

Either way I will deal with the fallout, I cannot abide what the Indieref did to Scotland. How it divided people and turned friends into enemies filled with venom towards each other when really everyone just wanted some decent blood leadership. Yet here we are, again and the scars have barely healed so this is just opening a fresh wound.

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:10

D1az do you mind me asking vaguely where your home country is.... Wales, West europe, East europe, aisia etc.

Just out of interest. It is always good to hear what people make of these things from outside.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 13/03/2017 22:12

What else aside from always talking about a second Indy vote has Nicola done for Scotland?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I can't put into words how much I despise and detest her.

D1az · 13/03/2017 22:13

It's okay Melina, wasn't getting at you I just hadn't found them saying it but kept hearing it mentioned is all. I didn't like the arguments either, I know of one friend who voted no previously (no idea if that is still their view), but it didn't really affect anything. We hardly discussed it.

D1az · 13/03/2017 22:15

Western Europe Thegruffalowswife. Smile

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:15

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I can't put into words how much I despise and detest her.

Me too lass

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:16

Cheers D1az, didn't want to ask you to be specific, but it is always interesting to get an idea of perceptions from outside the UK.

AndHoldTheBun · 13/03/2017 22:18

Yes last time, Yes this time. Actually, I just donated a few £s and pledged support here

www.ref.scot/pledge

gruffalosarse · 13/03/2017 22:31

No and Not again. While we are all debating this the SNP are being left unchallenged about their awful record on education, NHS, police etc. I will not be the silent majority again.

D1az · 13/03/2017 22:31

It's okay, to be honest I have lived here for a very long time now but I still see both as 'home' if that makes sense. I would be comfortable living either here or there for the time being (Brexit aside).

I did the same AndHoldTheBun, didn't see the link to donate though, I will have to go back for that. Blush

DrMorbius · 13/03/2017 22:31

In simple terms, Scotland's representation in the union (measured in GDP or what you earn) is above par to what you bring in in. As a stand alone country Scotland would be a third world nation on par with Portugal.
There is nothing wrong with that, it's not an insult, it's where you will be, based on GDP.

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:31

This was the link I got sent for the no. Early days though. I have donated already.

Petition to not call a referendum.

D1az · 13/03/2017 22:37

Overall I guess I support the SNP (in the event of independence, that would change). I don't think all of the Scottish Government's policies work, and I can see plenty of areas for improvement.

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:39

I've already signed. I tried to post it on a couple of threads before but got kicked off mumsnet for doing so.

I then complained at numerous threads popping up with petitions for another eu ref, but never had a reply from mumsnet hq.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 13/03/2017 22:42

That petition is getting over 50 signatures a minute, after 10:30 at night. Just goes to show there are an awful lot of very pissed off Scots today. Hopefully the news will pick it up like they did the trump one and it will really take off.
