This thread is very balanced with links for both sides so hopefully it will be allowed.

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 22:43

Yay... go gruffalosarse!!!

neveradullmoment99 · 13/03/2017 22:44

No i havent changed my vote. Will still be voting yes :) Hope we grab the chance this time. It could be our last.

AndHoldTheBun · 13/03/2017 22:46

Gruffalo, you mention NHS Scotland, something which I have some direct knowledge of (medical family, members working within NHS England and NHS Scotland). DH is a senior medic who works in a number of managerial roles.
NHS Scotland is under strain for a number of reasons, but but it is not (yet) at absolute breaking point, like NHS England. One of the reasons for this, is because the Scottish government has enacted policies and funding decisions which have protected NHS Scotland from some of the truly appalling things which are happening within NHS England.

gruffalosarse · 13/03/2017 22:54

Why compare it to NHS England? Health is a devoted matter, why should the fall back always be to compare it to England? If the SNP are so progressive they should be taking full responsibility for the current state of the NHS in Scotland. Take responsibility, do your day job and then I would have more respect for their policies.

Also, I work in the joint NHS team so like yourself have direct experience of this and clearly my observations differ from your own.

gruffalosarse · 13/03/2017 22:55

devolved... time to step away from the computer!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/03/2017 22:55

I was yes last time and will still be yes as far as I can see.

I know two people who voted no last time who said immediately after Brexit that they would vote yes next time. The big question will be whether those who voted yes to independence but Leave at Brexit will vote yes again, given NS's stance on the EU.

Why compare it to NHS England? Because the NHS was set up across the whole of the UK and NHS Scotland and England have the exact same legacy issues?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/03/2017 23:01

I'm not one of those people, mother, but my dad is - voted Yes then Leave. That's exactly it - he wants an independent country that is truly stand-alone. He's not the brightest political thinker, so I believe a lot of it comes down to hating French farmers or summat, but I think there are some reasoned stances that tend to point to Iceland as an example of a small country not in the EU.

Signed the petition.

Woohoo yeah!!! Go morris!!! Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/03/2017 23:16

If Indyref2 succeeds, there will probably have to be a referendum about rejoining the EU at some point - just to boggle the mind even further! If Scotland would need to demonstrate that it met the financial criteria for at least 2 years, then a referendum on rejoining the EU would probably be at least 2 years after Scotland's exit (Scexit? Scotexit? Grin) and more likely at least 5 years down the line, depending on how long it took for our economy to settle down. By then, who knows what the European situation would be? At the moment I'd vote to rejoin the EU, but we don't know what will happen after Brexit, so by the time Scotland was ready to reapply things might look very different.

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 23:17

I agree extra

cdtaylornats · 13/03/2017 23:19

To be accurate Sturgeon has announced that she will ask Holyrood to give her permission to ask Westminster if she can have another referendum, crash the Scottish economy, cause divisiveness and end her political career.

Pointless exercise - if she wins by less than 10% we just start winding up for Indyref3.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 13/03/2017 23:26

To be accurate Sturgeon has announced that she will ask Holyrood to give her permission to ask Westminster if she can have another referendum

Is there any possibility she won't get a majority vote in Holyrood?

AndHoldTheBun · 13/03/2017 23:27

I'm comparing NHS Scotland to NHS England because, although decisions regarding the running of NHS Scotland are devolved, the funding we get back from Westminster to run our NHS is linked to how much funding NHS England receives, and it's calculated on the assumption that we (in Scotland) will make the same cuts and decisions regarding privatisation and so on...

Thegruffalowswife · 13/03/2017 23:34

That petition to parliment is gaining loads of signatures. I hope loads of people who don't want this are sharing it on Facebook.
Politics on Facebook is a big nono for me, but this one is definately warranted.

We voted no, polls say 60% don't want one, she promised us again and again it was a once in a generation/lifetime and that a vote for the snp was not a vote for indyref 2, but here we are 3 years later and ironically it is westminster that has the issue with gaining trust. It is unbeleivable and a stain on our democratic values.

QueenLaBeefah · 13/03/2017 23:42

Has anyone me got a link to the petition? I'd like to sign. Smile

user1488581876 · 13/03/2017 23:43

The writing is clearly on the wall where Scotland and Northern Ireland are concerned. Neither will be part of the UK in a short period of time.

The rest of us just have decades of Tory government to look forward to.

QueenLaBeefah · 13/03/2017 23:47

Found the petition and signed. It's doing really well Smile

TinfoilHattie · 13/03/2017 23:48

If you click on the map to see where people are signing that petition from, it's pretty even across Scotland. Up to over 24,800.

D1az · 14/03/2017 00:04

I agree, user. I think this time, for Scotland at least, it will happen, but no-one can say for sure.

D1az · 14/03/2017 00:04

I can't comment on N. Ireland simply because I don't know enough about it.
