Guardians for all children

I don't normally follow Scottish politics, just Westminster, however was watching the mid day prog, First Ministers questions, on tv lately.

I was wondering how the Guardian for every child in Scotland, legislation passed by the SnP in 2014, went down with Scottish mums.

It seems a crazy idea, though well meaning, and had I been a mum of young DCs at the time would have been incensed.
Was there an outcry at the time? I don't think the law has been removed.

You wouldn't believe they were the most trusted judging by this thread!

People only bother posting on these threads if they have strong feelings about a particular issue, so they don't accurately reflect public opinion in the slightest. I suspect it is not coincidental that there is an election coming up...

Most of those who do trust them either give up contributing to these threads or get told to go off to start a new one or just decide that it's not worth trying to communicate with some people who have already made up their minds.

or get accused of being Nicola Sturgeon?! :D

Because those who are designated named persons (most likely a teacher or health visitor) has enough work on their plate without causing needless more. You'll forgive me if I think the vast majority of named persons are decent human beings and will only be interested in those children in dire need of attention

I can see the Headlines now
NAMED PERSON FAILED TO SAVE TODDLER

CHILD DIES IN HORRIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES AS NAMED PERSON FAILED TO CHECK WARNINGS

ETC ETC ETC.

Only the chances are the named person will be kept secret so will be able to botch things anonymously.

I think peeps are a bit naïve.

It's a good idea that abused children should be helped but it's not that simple as the parents of the child have rights too. It isn't the case that child is abused - child removed from bad parents. It is more child is abused. Then a to and fro for many months or years over rehoming child and/or supporting parents, child possible reinstated with DPs, only to fall down later etc etc The named person won't have a magic wand for this. It is an ongoing situation for SS and it would be that case before and after named persons (though possibly less money available as so much being spent on named person).

Scary stuff these videos - not allowed to hang up the phone? Then goes on to use words he doesn't know the meaning of? Erm... Wtf!

I wonder if children 1st have been given any funding from SNP.

Interesting article www.scotsman.com/news/revealed-what-can-happen-when-a-named-person-reports-on-your-children-1-4089077 describing one family's experience of the pilot named person scheme. Scary stuff

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/04/2016 12:55

Thanks for the link Smile Does anyone know how long the Supreme Court judgement is likely to take?

AnthonyBlanche · 03/04/2016 13:05

No idea itsall sometimes judgments take months, sometimes weeks.

peggyundercrackers · 03/04/2016 18:01

I thought I read somewhere that it is going to take about 8 weeks for the judges to make a decision.
