Just daydreaming here - what would be your ideal age to retire ?

I am thinking soon - 40, but this because I have small children and it would be lovely not having to stress about work (on top of all the other life stress)

About 65, if I get that far. I’m 60 now.

I have a very busy and active retirement. No one I know is in a waiting room for death. Filling every day with work that means little to you on the other hand....

I think it’s just the timeline that scares me, you live life hitting milestones like education, marriage, house, babies, career, then it’s celebrating the milestones of those things, retirement’s the last thing and I guess to me at this stage of life that just sounds quite scary! I play the sims and it’s a really fulfilling game until they become old, they become boring, overherted and get up too early 🤣🤣 (I’m joshing before anyone comes at me saying I think people are like that) my grandparents died quite young and my parents haven’t retired yet so I think I just think of it as a very old person thing right now and maybe when my parents model some enviable retirement behaviour I may feel different!

All the people saying they retired under 50…I just find that odd, surely you haven’t retired, you’re just unemployed with means of independent wealth?! Lovely but not really retirement.
