My 14 year old daughter has made a statement to the police that my husband has been inappropriatley touching her and making sexual advances towards her. Please tell me where I can get some support around how this is making me feel. I can't find anywhere on the net for this kind of thing.

Yes lesson but she could well be a pros witness

LobstersLass · 20/02/2009 21:18

myredcardigan, the OP has explained that. Her dh ticked the box to have a copy of the tape and it was sent to his home address, rather than where he is staying at the moment.

What hasn't been explained is whether or not the 14 year old daughter had an adult with her during the interview.

Desiderata · 20/02/2009 21:18

So, who was the 'appropriate adult' during your daughter's intervew?

Police are very keen on keeping such structures in place, because unbeknownst to half the people on this thread, kids lie.

Kids lie all the time. It's what they do best.

Swedes · 20/02/2009 21:18

HAW - How on earth would you know what his criminal past is? This wouldn't be revealed to you at all.

Also isn't 'the husband' a bit of a funny term for you to use?

myredcardigan · 20/02/2009 21:20

Well Dh just said it would usually be sent to his solicitor's address just to avoid such confusion.

rhksmum · 20/02/2009 21:20

when I reported my parents I was 29 and our social worker came with me to support me, my partner at the time didnt know the full extent of the abuse I suffered and I couldnt tell him. I did ask for a copy of my statement which they handwrote as I said it so that he could read it and see what had happened, but they said no that it no one but the procurator fiscal could see it

lessonlearned · 20/02/2009 21:21

The OP has suggested that as the police asked her DP at the start of the tape if he wanted it sent to his 'home address' and instead of sending it to his current address, they were remiss in sending it to her home.
However, she did not correct their mistake. Instead she watched it in it's entirity.
I just wonder...

i really can't believe that someone new to MN would now spend nigh on 7 hours on here.

hurtandworried · 20/02/2009 21:22

yes the school nurse took her to police station but didnt sit in, however a social worker did sit in

Hang on a minute.

You only know of one friend from before you got married?

Does anyone else think that is strange?

myredcardigan · 20/02/2009 21:23

She may be lying but that's not actually the point. Your default position must be to show you believe her 100%

hurtandworried · 20/02/2009 21:24

not watched, listened, dd had a video, husband had voice tape. whay is calling him husband unusual?? he is my husband, what else should i call him??

PerArduaAdNauseum · 20/02/2009 21:24

@lightshines - she's told us in the OP that she can't find any other support on the net - would it be so surprising for her to stay and talk to interested people once she's found them?

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 20/02/2009 21:24

HALF TERM

hurtandworried · 20/02/2009 21:27

yes dollius, i have always found it strange too

Swedes · 20/02/2009 21:27

Precisely, he is 'your husband' yet you called him 'the husband'. As though you were researching a chapter for a shitey novel or something.

lou031205 · 20/02/2009 21:27

lessonlearned · 20/02/2009 21:27

Very quick with the acronyms does not mean you are not stupid, HAW, and I have not questioned your intelligence, FWIW.
Your integrity is another matter.
Even more...

GettingaGrip · 20/02/2009 21:27

Please answer my previous questions re how long you knew this man before you married, and what you knew about him.

Give us a picture of him and his previous life. What about previous partners?

What does he do for a living? How did you meet him? have you known him for along time prior to marriage?

Why only one friend? Do you see his side of the family?

What do your girl friends think of him? What do your daughter's friends think of him?

dollius · 20/02/2009 21:28

Well, that's another red flag, isn't it?

PerArduaAdNauseum · 20/02/2009 21:28

@ Desiderata, Bree, etc - if she's a troll, then surely she must be a troll with some serious issues to be continuing to post with such consistency. I personally don't think she's a troll, and don't believe that there's anything to be gained by pointing pitchforks. Are you being goats here?

Desiderata · 20/02/2009 21:28

Well, statiscally, ditanny, you're wrong.

More people lie about sex crimes than endure them.

It is a classic call for attention. What's so sad is that those who have been genuinely abused often get overlooked, because the system is cynical. And the the system is cynical because of the 'Peter and the Wolf' scenario.

The emphasis in an intelligent court of law is what effect this might have on an innocent man accused of a heinous crime. Fourteen year old kids are more than capable of wreaking havoc. Jeez, anyone with a fourteen year old kid will know this to be true. History knows this to be true.

The Salem Witch Trials, anyone? Adults burned at the stake because hysterical kids were playing a game.

You are all too quick to condemn this man. Can you not remember being a fourteen year old girl?

hurtandworried · 20/02/2009 21:29

thanks per, i have found it very supportive and refreshing and it really has helped me start to sort my head out
