8000 posts - how do we find so much to talk about

OP posts:
Tanee58 · 13/01/2009 16:33

Dior, HW, we must arrange that lunch.

Ginnny, so glad you had a good Christmas/NY too. Can't say I noticed a reduction in alcohol intake here, but he's been more like his old self in recent weeks and I actually like seeing him around!

If your DP is getting under your feet, what about giving him some little jobs to do - eg, cleaning the oven !! I've bought some squirty stuff to try to clean the inside top and back, since I couldn't reach them. Oh, such fun. I'm obsessive about this cooker as I bought it with my buyback insurance money when my car was written off. I've never HAD such a clean cooker! I shine the ceramic hob every day - but admit I'd not looked too closely at the oven till Sunday! Plus mopping up the leak coming through some tiles above the sink - my task for DP is for him to dismantle the tiles and blocked in pipes to investigate. So half my kitchen will be on the floor tomorrow. Yippee!!

HappyWoman · 13/01/2009 16:44

lovve to - whats the best day for you?
I can do mondays and some thursdays - any good, we must do this before half term.

I am ok - no relationship problems just lots of other stuff that is taking up loads of my time.

TimeForMe · 13/01/2009 16:56

Tanee get some of that oven cleaning stuff from Lakeland. You brush it on and then leave it for a bit then all the yuk just wipes off. It's really good and makes the job an easy one

Tanee58 · 13/01/2009 17:15

TFM, I've bought some Cif stuff - but next time I go to Lakeland, I shall investigate (I got their new catalogue this morning - my obsession with Lakeland is a huge joke with DP, as I cannot pass a branch without popping in to admire their jam pot covers or buy some whatnots that I never knew I needed until I saw them!) and if DP admits it, he quite likes their bargain basement .

Dior & HW I'm free on Thursdays or I can take a day off on a Monday. Any Monday except next Monday when I'm doing an assertiveness training course (do you think I need it? My boss says not, but he's the one who got arsy when I had 'flu, so yah boo sucks to him, I'm going!)

TimeForMe · 13/01/2009 17:35

I love Lakeland too Tanee The Cif stuff is not as good as the Lakeland stuff, I've got that too!

Dior · 13/01/2009 18:05

I can generally do Mondays and Thursdays too. I have WW until 11am on Thursdays.

ladylush · 13/01/2009 20:17

Crikey, this thread has gone awfully domestic

snoringnightmare · 13/01/2009 21:52

Tanee/TFM just call in the professional oven cleaners twice a year. Sorted

TimeForMe · 13/01/2009 22:48

(grin) trouble is i would feel i had to clean it first!

When i worked full time i employed our surgery cleaners to give my house a one off blitz but spent the whole weekend before they came cleaning from top to bottom. I didn't want people i knew thinking i was a dirty girl (grin)

TimeForMe · 13/01/2009 22:51

oops! Wrong brackets. Am on phone again, can you tell? I know how to do CAPITALS NOW THOUGH

TimeForMe · 13/01/2009 22:52

Tanee58 · 14/01/2009 12:33

Well, now that this has turned into a Stepford Wives thread, let me say that I much regret the passing of Buddy products from Lakeland. They were MUCH better cleaners than anything else available, and cheaper to. HW, what is the Lakeland oven cleaner called?

So now we have got onto the really important things in life. Cleaning!! Who cares about men anyway?

ginnny · 14/01/2009 12:49

lol Tannee!!!
I'm as horrified by the cleaning discussions as Baffy was about the Mooncup conversation.

OP posts:
TimeForMe · 14/01/2009 12:53

So all we need now is to come up with a Mooncup Cleaner and we will have cleared the Glam and Fab thread!

Tanee, this is the Lakeland oven cleaner www.lakeland.co.uk/F/keyword/oven+cleaner

I'm a proper saddo cos I've even got the soaking tray for the shelves. It doubles as a great sledge!

Tanee58 · 14/01/2009 14:36

TFM - I have placed my order!

And then it all went horribly quiet.....

ladylush · 14/01/2009 16:12

Well sorry to change the subject (not really!) but I got a call from EPU today offering me an scan on 28th - 5 days later than the latest day I'd have liked. That's an eternity when you're anxious. Rationale = "well, it's not an emergency, it's just a reassurance scan". such a reassuring, supportive service I do realise there are women with bleeding, pain etc. but with my history there is a very high risk of mmc and I don't think it's unreasonable to want to know sooner rather than later whether it's viable. Rant over.

Tanee58 · 14/01/2009 16:22

Hi LL, thank you so much for changing the subject. I knew that if it went on, at some point I would have been outed for the Stepford Slob that I really am with the messiest house in our street!

Could your GP ask for an earlier scan, given your history? You'll be on absolute tenderhooks until then.

HappyWoman · 14/01/2009 16:27

Tanee - dont look to me for an oven cleaner - i have an aga and they dont need cleaning.

I too am horrified at the thought of all the cleaning - as i am working more hours now i can get help.

Lush - i know it is difficult but do try and relax and just enjoy the fact that you are pregnant again. Having a scan will not stop anything happening - but i know you know that already. Still keeping everything crossed for you though.

TimeForMe · 14/01/2009 16:27

I know it's a worry LL but we will all be rooting for you on the 28th. Try not to worry and try to think positive. I know, easier said than done but really, what's the option? Spend the whole time worrying, that's what! I've got everything crossed for you. Of course, I will have to uncross everything whilst I do the ironing, being the domestic Goddess that I am

Tanee, I have a baking sheet which I cover with foil in the bottom of my oven, it saves a lot of hard work when it comes to cleaning, I just renew the foil! Then, before MIL comes for a meal, I remove the tray complete with foil and expose my beautifully clean and gleaming oven bottom She will never have a bottom as clean as mine!

Tanee58 · 14/01/2009 17:10

HW, I was confusing you with TFM - I expect your Aga has a wonderfully clean bottom too!

TFM, yes, I have a baking tray at the bottom too, but it didn't stop drips of fat collecting beneath - as I discovered when I took it out on Sunday - and there are splatters of grease are all over the back where the fan is - so I do need something I can wipe on, rather than spray.

And don't get me onto the subject of my microwave....

Anyone else want to share their Superwoman secrets, or have we killed all the teabags with boredom .

Right, going home now to see what progress DP has made with the leak. Phoned home earlier to find DD at home, she said the washing machine was pulled out and part of the boxed in pipes section dismantled, but ne'er a sign of DP. I hope he was down at the plumber's merchants and not walking round the park in despair...

TimeForMe · 14/01/2009 17:36

Microwave is easy Tanee. Place a bowl with a slice of lemon in it and turn it on for 10 mins or so. Then just wipe the microwave clean. Easy Peasy! Smells good too!.

TimeForMe · 14/01/2009 17:37

That should be a 'bowl of water' with a slice of lemon in it!

ladylush · 14/01/2009 19:20

My microwave is sooo clean. My oven alas is not. But only 3 months til oven man comes and makes it look like new. I can put up with that. I have the same problem as Tanee -with splats getting underneath the foil. Might try an oven liner though.

Thanks for listening to rant. Feel a bit better now that I've had a little nap. Woke up at 3am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep til 6am. Had to be up at 8am. It happens each time I get pregnant. Never suffer from insomnia usually. HW - I know the scan won't change anything, but knowing whether it is viable will enable me to decide what to do. If it isn't, I'd probably opt for a ERPC so that I can get this pg over asap and try for another. I'm not getting any younger and miscarriages are very time-consuming. There's the time it takes to conceive + by the time mmc picked up am usually 7-8 weeks along at least, then 4-6 weeks for cycle to return and another 2 weeks before I can try again. Luckily, I seem to conceive quite easily, though in 2007 I had problems conceiving after my mmc.
Anyway am sure I've bored you all with that....now back to housework I did read a tip once (and tried) that a cheaper way of getting the oven shelves clean is to put them in a bin liner and smother them in oven cleaner, leaving them to soak. It did work but was a bit messy.

TimeForMe · 14/01/2009 19:38

Glad you are feeling better LL Now, enough about you, let's talk about oven's Yes, I've tried that method with the bin bag, I also put a cap full of ammonia in the bag, as recommended by Grandma, and the shelves were sparkling the next day!

Crikey, this is getting dull isn't it? Shall we talk about Mooncups again
