Date tried to put a hood on me during sex

I've been trying to date and honestly not had the best time so far.

I don't get a lot of free time because I'm a solo parent to my son.
So I went on a date recently. It was a low pressure walk (my suggestion). It went really well and we hit it off a lot better than expected. The only thing was that he made reference to being interested in the D/s dynamic. Can't remember how the conversation came up. I didn't make much of it because that is something I can enjoy, but didn't want to discuss at that point.

So second date we were at his house. He kisses me and things get heated. We're about to have sex and he gets about a hood to put over my head. Apparently one of his fantasies. I said no.

This doesn't sound like a man who's looking for a relationship, right?

No that is just weird and unsafe. Block and never cross his path again.

solosunflowers · 30/09/2026 16:54

Another comment I found a bit strange. So after the first date and the reference to kinks, I did ask him if he was looking for casual/sex only. He got a bit iffy about it saying: “sorry if it’s come across that way, but no I’m not just looking for a shag. It’s a bit of a red flag you saying that out of the blue. What if we had had a hot kiss, or what if we had sex, who knows what you’d say afterwards”

That's just made me remember there was one guy in my social circle who we nicknamed Grope and all the girls got the message straight away when they heard it. He would sneak up on girls at parties and once he trapped a friend of mine in a bathroom and we leant on the door to force it open and get her out. Word soon got round about how sleazy he was. In today's world he'd be up to god knows what

In todays world he has an ad on Tinder under the nick name "Successful entrepreneur" with a picture wearing suit & tie standing up infront of a yellow Porsche.

Lalgarh · 30/09/2026 16:58

Oh so he thinks you're the red flag?

Bit DARVO. Possibly a pick up artist trick. He'll be claiming you suggested it next

BobbiBiscuits · 30/09/2026 16:59

Certainly no Romeo and Juliet vibes with this prince, that's for sure. I'd rather stay single than have to spend time with some of the sorry beta male losers we read about on MN. I believe it's worse on Reddit .. I want not to go to that cess pit.

ha ha yes - the man child 'negging' the American losers love.

alcovecupboards · 30/09/2026 17:03

If he wants to be carrying on like that then he needs to be mature enough to have a frank conversation about consent before any shenanigans. Throw him into the bin and move on.

I would have binned him then and there just for that strange and creepy response that has Jeffrey Dahmer vibes all over it.

Yes very true. It's making me do some reflecting.

This, you barely know him.

notacooldad · 30/09/2026 17:05

*You did nothing wrong. He is the one who did wrong. Don't let people here shame you into believing that you are at fault for what happened.

notacooldad · Today 15:46
I've had a lot of casual/risky sex over the years. Not much shocks me anymore, so it's good to hear what others think.
*Are you surprised that people are shocked?

I posted and and asked the question was op suprised that people were shocked. I agree 100% that she is not to blame. I was asking her if people' being shocked was a surprise to her and that she hadn't realised how risky and badly it could have gone once she had time to look bavk on the situation.
The way it could be read is that it is judgy and I most certainly didn't mean that !

Venicelagoon · 30/09/2026 17:06

Weirdo. Please dont continue this relationship if hood just the start. Imagine what he might want to do later....

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 30/09/2026 17:06

One of the things that's putting you in danger is that you were thinking "I don't know for sure that he is dangerous". When what you should be thinking - and acting on! - is "I don't know for sure that he is safe". Only have sex with people when you are sure they are safe for sex, and only have relationships with people who are safe to be around,

You soon collected two pieces of evidence that he is not safe to be around - he brought up dom/sub on the first date and he brought out the hood on the second. They tell you that for him any relationship is very much focussed on his own sexual needs. They are what is at the front of his mind. Emotional connection is only in the background. Your needs are not really in his mind at all, unless they satisfy him.

And if he actually tried to choke you during sex(!!??) then even your safety is not in his mind. That means he actually is dangerous. Well done for getting rid.

Ideally in future do look out for the early signals and don't be afraid to back away when you see them instead of going along with it.

Stop being nasty.

Yep. OP is not to have sex until child is at least 21 and no relationships before then 🤷‍♀️

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 30/09/2026 17:08

If he was truly into the kink scene he’d have a better understanding of consent. This guy just watches too much porn and or is a predator

If this is real you really do need to take a massive step back from dating until you can figure why on earth this happened, why you didnt feel able to stop it and do some work to get to the point where you dont engage in things you arent comfortable with or that put you at risk.

You are genuinely lucky you didnt end up injured or dead, its really that serious. Anyone letting someone put their hand around their throat really needs to consider how a split second could kill them but its so unbelievably concerning that a pretty much stranger did this and you didnt see this as a concern. I do worry for you if this is genuinely what happened.

This ^^
It feels wrong now I'm thinking back dear god at what point would you have thought ‘I’m off!’ ffs!
Your safety radar is completely screwed if you can’t recognise massive red flags starting with going back to complete stranger’s house let alone having sex after he’s threatened hooding you and throttling?

That's manipulation, trying to stop you asking sensible questions and still get what he wanted out of you. There was nothing "out of the blue" about your question at all. He'd acted as if this was mostly about kinky sex and so you asked. But he decided to turn it back onto you. Not a nice man in any way.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 30/09/2026 12:03

Porn addled brain. The more I think about it the more worrying it becomes. This isn’t just a man who has a fantasy he wanted to try out on a new partner. It’s someone so deeply entrenched in his fantasy that he doesn’t see you as a human with your own wants and needs. You were purely there as an object to fulfil his fucked up game.

Totally agree

solosunflowers · 30/09/2026 15:10

He did choking too.

Oh, @solosunflowers - believe it or not, the hood doesn't have me fearing for my life (or thinking the guy is a serial killer). Choking does

Mama2many73 · 30/09/2026 17:20

I've been with DH +30.yrs. if he pulled out a hood for me to wear during sex WITHOUT us having discussed it id go ballistic!

What an assumption to make that you'd be ok with that at all, but bloody hell during first time!

solosunflowers · 30/09/2026 17:22

Very random that he happened to have the hood laying around. I can’t even remember where it appeared from. He just said, “put that on”

I am actually frightened for you, op, with your lack of boundaries and self worth.

Please do some research on how to value yourself and protect yourself for your child x.

If the object of your date was to find a quick shag, then I guess talking about sexual preferences on a first or second date is good practice, but if you're looking for a relationship (where, you know, sex is a thing you do when you know each other and that you're compatible) then, call me old fashioned, but I wouldn't be expecting to be talking about sex at all, let alone discussing my preferences for being pelted with cream cakes, until a little further into the relationship.

To be fair to him, he did at least make you aware of his kinks before you were in the heat of the moment; he probably couldn't believe his luck that you didn't run for the hills! Nevertheless, to just whip a hood out of his back pocket on your first time, without an explicit conversation, is really seriously alarming behaviour. Thank goodness he stopped when you asked him to. For most people, the first time you have sex with someone would be exciting enough without the latex and whips. I wonder what he'd do when he wanted to ramp things up a bit!

I wouldn't be pursuing this relationship unless

a. I was really very keen on him AND
b. I was enthusiastic about domination/submission AND
c. Had had my anxieties allayed by a long and explicit conversation about informed consent each and every time, how that consent can be removed at any time, and agreed protocols for how that consent is reviewed during the course of a session, safe words etc.

Proceed if you must with extreme caution - and only because he did stop as soon as you told him to. Any doubt at all on any of the three conditions above and I'd be waving goodbye

This cream cake pelting preference.

Could he just gently lob a four pack of chocolate eclairs to me ?

Then piss off and leave me alone

Well I can't afford therapy. I am keen to work on myself.

I don't believe he's actually dangerous, though. Definitely not. It's about his porn fantasies.

contact women’s aid or your local group of similar and ask to go on the course that is sometimes called Rise. You learn about warning signs and it massively helps you with long term choosing the right partners and not ignoring red flags etc

The world was a better place when kink was just for kinky people. It was never something people were supposed to dabble in. Or escalate into because they were bored with standard porn. Or tolerate because that’s just what’s expected nowadays.

I’m a sub, and sex in short timeframe was never on the cards because there was too much negotiation to get through. There shouldn’t be any assumptions, or surprises. It’s talked through, contingency plans agreed, then trust established long before anything risky happened.

I want to say leave this stuff alone, but I think the genie is well and truly out of that bottle now. So if you’re open to a bit of kink, please, please, please educate yourself on what’s supposed to happen before hand and cultivate super high standards for who you’re willing to sleep with.

That’s the crux of the issue though - because women who aren’t intrinsically kinky, and have high standards, filter out these porn addled would-be doms. The very fact you’re open to considering some of these practices should be a warning sign to go on an all women’s retreat at a convent for a year.

It’s not cool to be open minded, it’s risky.

Sorry, op, I’m ranting a bit, and it’s not fair. I just really hate how acceptable practices are now that we’re once considered extreme in bdsm communities. I hate seeing women, who have been “introduced to kink” by boyfriends coming into kink forums looking for advice on how to achieve subspace because now it’s a goal to endure enough pain to dissociate from the trauma. It’s terrifying.

I agree with what you are saying with slowly building trust and very clear consent and planning before hand. However the OP does sound like she has prior experience and an interest in kink.
