Does anyone have NO friends or family at all? I realise this is probably extremely unusual but wondered if I was the only one?

No it doesn’t - this is the question OP asked:

Not - ‘please come and psychoanalyse me’ and I would have thought that it was quite clear from OPs responses that they didn’t want it ‘opening up’

Then why isn't everyone answering
Yes
Or No

Of course it opens up debate. Ffs.

That doesn’t mean yes or no, plenty of people have answered and shared their experiences without “yes” “no” stop being so obtuse, always you seem a bit obsessed with my thread which is weird…

OP
You may simply need reassurance that You Are Not Crazy.

You Are Not Crazy.

Friendships are difficult. Human relationships are difficult. Many people have none or few.

We are wired to have them. We are also wired to protect ourselves from hurt and a lot of hurt comes from relationships that don't work out well.

We live in a societal set up that doesn't make it easy to have them on our terms.

A small tribe of Hunter Gatherers maybe have had it easier for this part of life.

No. The OP has asked a straight question and has asked not to be psychoanalysed.

This is MN, what did they expect? I've yet to see any thread which has simply yes or no responses.

I can see why you may have problems socially if thats how you interact with people.

Or maybe I don’t want to interact with people like you? So will be ignoring you now

For a relationship to work long term (not saying you do necessarily want this) they have to be a friend first and foremost.

I agree with this. How do you get to the "partner" stage without being friends first?

RaspberryBlues · 02/10/2026 09:51

Im not sure why people are assuming because I don’t have friends i dont want a relationship anyway im not even sure I am looking for one! Not a serious one anyway ive had casual relationships in the past which were ok

We’re social animals, OP. We’ve survived this long by working together, and we’re wired to find pleasure and meaning in connecting with others. Even your question seems to reflect a longing to know that someone else lives the way you do. Maybe they do, but that doesn’t mean isolation is good for us. Enjoying solitude is one thing; living without meaningful connection goes against a fundamental human need.

RaspberryBlues · 02/10/2026 11:50

Who said it was a choice?

Thank you, im glad it’s not me, it’s a very unusual situation and I often have to make things up as I don’t know how to explain it to people

Sorry for my late reply raspberry. It is a very unusual situation and no one understands unless they have been through it. And I find people automatically assume you must have done something bad (which is not the case) It took me a few years of soul searching and blaming myself for everything until I finally made peace with myself. Also, it's hard when you find out someone (ie. family) have passed away. You still go through the grieving process, but you feel like a fraud because you can only grieve once you find out. (For me it was a few years later) It also seemed like everyone else knew about it except me. That really upset me.
Then I remind myself there are murderers who still have their family and friends stand by them! So my (ex) family must just be a little f##ked up.
And oddly enough, those who seem to want to say bad things - I find they are not squeaky clean themselves!!
I hope you continue to grow stronger. xxx

Findingmypurposeinlife · 08/10/2026 10:46

Also @RaspberryBlues please always be careful when entering a relationship or even making new friends. Being completely isolated makes you very vulnerable. Especially if someone bad knows you have no other support network.
I've encountered this myself. I've also encountered people who seem to look down their nose at me. However, I have been through experiences alone, which I very much doubt others would be able to deal with. And there is no question it has made me a lot stronger. ❤️
