Partner going away with attractive 22 year old girl. Is it a bit weird or am I just being jealous/insecure.

Just that really! For context he’s 43, and self employed so it’s a work trip that he’s organised himself. It’s long haul and they will be away for a few weeks. She works for him at his house everyday mon-Fri, they are set up in his dining room. Desks next to eachother. We don’t live together.

The whole thing is making me feel a bit weird but I’m not sure why! I know if I try to talk to him about it it will just go round in circles and will just result in me feeling like a terrible person/jealous insecure girlfriend. He sees the trip as essential to the business, I don’t want to be accused of being unsupportive as I do support him massively.

just wondered how others would potentially feel about this situation? Am I being an absolute areshole girlfriend?

This doesn’t sound like a happy relationship. When you love someone you don’t enjoy watching them hurt. 🥰

Pyjamatimenow · 18/09/2026 22:55

If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, it’s a duck.
Not worth the overthinking. Just dump him

@cheeseandhamtoastie42 i asked earlier what you are getting from this .
Can I ask do you give him money/loans ?
Either say could he be telling you he needs to go bankrupt be his way to get sympathy and you help him out?
What do you plan to do ? After all the advice you have been given

He’s not had a penny out of me but I’ve got him A LOT of clients through my profession. I’m likely the reason he’s got a business today tbh (without sounding arrogant).

He doesn't have clients in the country he's going to and he doesn't speak the language and he thinks ANYONE will hire him as a web designer?

I'm just scanning mentally to see if there are any countries on earth that don't already have web designers who are fluent in the local language or languages.

Scan complete: nope.

I never thought to question it tbh. Now getting other peoples perspectives it makes it all look incredibly suss.

Absolutely nothing about us on social media 😆 god it just gets worse and worse doesn’t it.

Are you 100% sure you're not the side chick OP? Not intentionally, obviously, but it sounds like he deliberately keeps you away from the main part of his life and hides your relationship from others. I've been reading this thread on and off all day and I'm really hoping you texted him a bye bye message by now. You sound like a lovely person who's being taken for a ride.

Mercedes78 · 18/09/2026 23:08

I have an ex I would trust 100% not to go near her and another ex who I wouldn’t trust. Depends how you feel about him and if you know him , can you trust him.

cheeseandbiscu1ts · 18/09/2026 23:24

Please, please dump him. I’ve been in a similar boat, the secrecy and the segregation from friends/main life doesn’t get better. He isn’t serious about you, nor does he care about you.
Please stop letting this man make a fool out of you. Sending you hugs

Bedhead1234 · 18/09/2026 23:26

cheeseandhamtoastie42 · 18/09/2026 15:39

You’ve summed him up there, he is a massive fantasist. He only ever sees the best case scenario in everything which of course doesn’t always happen. He then falls apart when things don’t go according to plan and it’s me that picks up the pieces.

So he's...using you as an emotional support system or someone who regulates his emotions ???

UnintentionalArcher · 18/09/2026 23:41

@cheeseandhamtoastie42 I typically respond YABU to situations where someone just seems to be jealous of a situation simply because it involves a younger woman. However, here we have:

  • Man whose business isn’t doing well yet going away for multiple weeks abroad to vague locations with a very junior employee.
  • Man who has lied and gaslit you in the past.
  • Man who is, at best, extremely vague about his travel plans and never invites you despite them being partly for pleasure.
  • A possible situation where this young woman is being taken advantage of fiscally (you seem to suspect this might be the case).

I don’t think this is really about the young woman … I think you have much more significant doubts about them and this situation is just crossing even more lines than normal.

I occasionally stay at his. He’s weird about his friends, very protective so only met a couple of them. One of them (his best friend) didn’t know my name. I’ve met his parents once.

For context we’ve been together nearly 4 years.

It gets worse and worse.

This is no partner. He is shady about his life and doesn't even talk about you to his nearest and dearest.

His business sounds like nothing more than a hobby job where he gets to go on tax deductible holidays, which are costing the business more than they are making and he never wants you to join for his fun time between minimal (if any) actual work time out there. Why is that? It don't make sense. His set up with the 22 year old in his house every day is weird, where does the other employee work? I can't see that has been mentioned anywhere.

He sounds like a creep that had employed this young woman to leer over and is paying for company from her rather than a buisness need. I would be feeling sick if it DD 5 years younger ended up in a work position like this in a few years. It is unlikely she will want anything to do with him, but him leching on and taking her on unnecessary buisness trips is nothing more than him wanting a bit of arm candy for company. Him saying the parents feel greatful, I very much doubt that. He is either trying to convince you or himself that is the case, to try be Mr big shot, deny he is in a failing business, pissing money against the wind. Getting to tell the lads about his beautiful young side kick and adventures like he is something special. All the while you are sitting there on the sidelines with barely a mention, not known to his closest and not a part of his everyday life or even knowing about it fully.

Wake up. For all you have ane have achieved in uour life, you are worth million times more than this cringeworthy looser. Don't be hanging around to pick up his broken pieces as an when he sees fit. You are worth so so much more and will have so much more peace of mind when he isn't doing a number on it. You should know the truth at all times. Not be kept in the dark and left to wonder that is really going on with him, these trips and how the fuck he is telling you you are in a relationship but not talking about you and the things you do to his family

Have you seen the Netflix series Love Rats? There are some very sophisticated rom-cons where some men go and meet the women (or men) they are conning, maybe that explains the work trips and the addition of the 22 year old woman. Web design is his cover story.

Even if it's not, let your imagination run wild to give you a valid reason in your own mind to get rid of him. Honestly, tiny penis is enough of a reason imo.

You are worth more than this. You know that deep down, dig deeper and believe it! It really doesn't sound like you'd notice much of a difference if he was gone anyway.

Date some guys in their early 30s, plenty of decent ones still around as they haven't settled down yet.

MsAlignment · 19/09/2026 02:24

Four years? …

The reason you don’t know his friends is that they know a shitload of stuff about him that he doesn’t want you to find out. (This is assuming he actually has any friends - he may have alienated everyone in his circle,)

It isn’t a normal way to live - and you must surely have realised long ago that something must be very wrong. A four year relationship should mean becoming involved with a network of people - family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, tradespeople - surrounding your partner. (Just as they should know your people.) Otherwise you’re just a dirty secret - and should have asked yourself why? about three and a half years ago.

You’ve said you’re not mentioned on his SM. But what do you know about him from his online presence?

What do you know about:

Previous or concurrent partners?
Children?
Residence or extended periods in other countries?
Previous business failures/ bankruptcies?
Convictions / imprisonment?
Enemies?

I have to say I would not want to be anywhere near someone who seems so irredeemably dodgy and untrustworthy. It’s dangerous.

frozendaisy · 19/09/2026 06:24

Is he taking her to be a mule?

He’s got a daughter around her age as well (at uni). I wonder what she thinks about this set up. If he’s actually told her.

His new boss and him took a dislike to eachother apparently. It was very odd, more to it but quite specific so might be (even more) outing.

TBF I've taken an immediate dislike to him and I've never even met him.

I know if I try to talk to him about it it will just go round in circles and will just result in me feeling like a terrible person/jealous insecure girlfriend.

This stood out for me. If he’s not able or prepared to reassure you he’s either emotionally illiterate or a cheat. Probably both and neither form the basis of a happy and loving secure relationship. Don’t do it to yourself OP. Your self confidence is too valuable to trash on men like this and being cheated on has lifelong effects.

There’s been a few situations where I’ve felt the devote and gone to him. Literally zero reassurance, makes me feel like an arsehole for even feeling like that tbh

You don't have a partner and you don't have a relationship.
Just read back your own posts. He's a user, an abuser, a manipulator, he's evasive, he's dishonest, you know very little about his work life, you don't know his friends, you know very little about his wider social circle, in 4 years you've only met his parents once, he is off on yet another international trip which has been pointed out to you is unnecessary, he's being accompanied by a 22 year old whose role is unclear and that is just what I can remember. He doesnt care, he doesn't love you, he doesn't respect you, he can't be open and honest with you.

Get rid and get yourself a good counsellor. You deserve so much better.

What are the chances of an attractive 22 year old fancying your 43 year old boyfriend though? Especially as he sounds like a right twat.

I just put an update above. I don’t trust him tbh he’s lied and gaslit a lot in the past, especially about trips. He’s secretive about his life and withholds a lot of information.

Why on earth are you in a relationship with a guy you don’t trust, who has lied to you? You don’t live with him so just say bye!

TheChickenRun · 19/09/2026 08:11

OP I hope you’re now at the stage of just ghosting him and getting on with your life.

FlopsyMopsyCotton · 19/09/2026 08:20

You sound great!

Be proud of yourself, you own your own home, run your own business, do charity work and you are a mother!

Don’t entertain this man for a minute longer. You do not need him and from what I can see he’s not bringing much to the table other than stress!
