Hope you all find your way onto this new one !

OP posts:
DiornaNoble · 03/07/2008 21:50

Lily - the 'l' and 'p' keys are close, so maybe she is just a crap typist? I don't think her posts sound childish, just a bit sanctimonius!

I have had another good day food and exercise wise. I am going for another walk with two friends once we have all dropped our children at school. I might even have an indian (tikka and rice only)!

lilyloo · 03/07/2008 22:43

Dior maybe but numerous times

The tika is actually really nice with the salad !

DiornaNoble · 03/07/2008 22:48

MY walk may even earn me enough points for an onion bhaji...

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 06:27

Morning ladies

Just popping in to wish you all a good day

Paddlechick666 · 04/07/2008 08:26

morning all, dd slept 12 hours last night

mind you, she was up the night before so....

slightly off topic but i'd appreciate your views on MMR.

i am completely incapable of making a decision. if money (and time) were no object i would just go single shot but money (and time) are an object.

but i am terrified that if I go for MMR for reasons of not having time to get to a clinic and for want of a few hundred quid I will be putting dd at risk.

as far as i can tell from research she is not a high risk in terms of family history etc but i believe she had a bad reaction to the first round of jabs.

she had 4 episodes of apnoea 1 week after her first set. she was fine after 2nd & 3rd but I waited till 9m and nearly 12m for them.

I just don't know what to do. I believe in innoculation and herd immunisation and am now worrying about her being at risk of measles but she's my PFB and will be my only child and I couldn't bear it if she has a bad reaction.

arg! this is such a difficult decision!

Baffy · 04/07/2008 09:21

morning everyone

hope you all have a lovely day I won't be around much

Dior keep up the good work

PC - I really really don't know what to advise you on that. It's such a personal choice. I guess my only advice would be to go with your gut instinct.
Sounds like she reacted really badly last time

Is it more likely that she'll react badly if she has the combined one as opposed to single shots? Or is it jusy any injection that may cause the reaction?

I'd have to say that even if money and time were a problem, if I was as worried as you then I'd tend to go on the safe side. Wouldn't help you if she did react badly and you hadn't done it just because of money and time - don't mean that flippantly btw.
Would H help with the financial side?

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 09:47

PC I agree with Baffy, it is a very personal choice. I too worried myself sick over this but the doctor convinced me to go ahead when she explained how ill dd could be if she didn't have the injection and caught measles.

Could you have a chat with your health visitor?

Paddlechick666 · 04/07/2008 10:36

hi guys, thanks for the advice (wily too on FB).

i definately want her innoculated. measles is nasty.

baffy, you've hit the nail on the head tbh as MMR is just the cheaper/easier option for me.

having said that, i do worry that the research on single shot is limited and either way the measles jab is the risky one from what i can gather.

i do think there is a greater stress on the child to whack such a mixture into them in one hit.

I will try to get H to contribute. he started work again this week so he's earning again. it will take a while for us both to get back on our feet financially tho.

ginnny · 04/07/2008 11:02

Its such a personal thing PC and only you can decide, but fwiw both of mine had the full MMR and were absolutely fine - no reaction at all. My friend went for the single shots and couldn't get the mumps one for some reason - can't remember why now.
Enjoy your Indian Dior - you deserve it
Baffy - you call the shots, it is your business, if you and H are together you will have a right to know every single thing that goes on in his life. I hope he's prepared for that.
Anyway, have a good day all of you and I'll catch up later.

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 11:02

Dr Hilary Jones was on TV the other day saying it makes not the slightest bit of difference. He can't understand all the fuss over the single shots. I wish I had listened closer now though, that was just the bit I caught.

Have you googled for the pro's and con's? Can you remember the days when the only difficult decision you had was what pair of shoes to wear for a fab night out? Oh how times have changed!

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 11:04

Yes Dior, enjoy your meal and keep up the good work The change in you is brilliant! So positive!

Paddlechick666 · 04/07/2008 11:14

TFM, I can't understand why the NHS don't just offer single shot and have done with it.

The pharmecuticals (sp?) are in control tho really aren't they.

The best the dr can offer me is a half hour stay at the surgery after the jab. We have dropped off the HV radar and I'm happy with that tbh. They pretty much toe the party line as well.

The consultant paed I saw after asking for a 2nd opinion when they told me the apnoea was due to reflux told me the quickest way for the government to get re-elected would be to offer singles on NHS!!

Thanks for the advice tho, the shoe issue still exists in our house but it's dd's shoes not mine

Paddlechick666 · 04/07/2008 11:16

ps: nice one Dior!!

mmmmm bhaji, yummy yummy in your tummy!

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 11:19

I think it all boils down to money at the end of the day PC. It makes me cross that they push something you have to pay for and scare people away from something that ^is6 available on the NHS. It just makes me think.....

As for the shoes, it's my dd in this house too, she is shoe mad!! She conned DP into buying her some of those Lelly kelly things. I had said no but on a daughter and daddy shopping trip she dragged him into Clarks and fluttered her eyelashes at him. She almost had to revive him at the till though when the assistant asked for £37! Serves him right, thats what I say!

Paddlechick666 · 04/07/2008 11:28

what pisses me off is editorial in papers like the Daily Mail branding those who opt out as middle class band wagon jumpers who are risking the nation thru their uninformed decisions not to vaccinate.

It's such an obvious ploy to shame and bully people back into doing as they're told and following government guidelines blindly.

So many reactions aren't yellow carded and just put down to environmental issues so there isn't even enough statistical evidence to justify a full and proper study.

I am still fuming that they would not yellow card dd's reactions to the DTP jabs. My dr even wrote in her referral letter something like "the mother is cleary intelligent and articulate. However due to the current situation with her husband's mental illness is displaying extreme anxioussness and may even be suffering from PND".

Not that they ever ever ever followed that up with me and each time I did the "Post Birth Mad Test" I came up in the normal range "under the circumstances"!!!!!!

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 11:33

Absolutely!

I do sympathise PC. I don't know what I would do if this were me. Maybe dd will tolerate the injection better now she is older, do you think? Is your GP approachable? Would you be able to talk over your concerns with him/her?

DiornaNoble · 04/07/2008 11:40

PC - I was worried about the MMR. As ds has an egg allergy, he had to have his done at hospital in case of a reaction. They kept him in for about 2 hours. I do understand where you are coming from but am not armed with enough information to 'advise'. Mygut feeling is that you need to trust yours!

I walked ds to school today and then had a 45 minute walk with two friends. I am shattered now, but pleasantly. Plus, I have earned 4 points to eat! Next week, I fully intend to fet my 'silver 7' and hope to lose at least 2 pounds.

TFM - yes, I do feel positive. My crafting mojo has upped and left me though. Not sure why but I have lost enthusiasm.

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 11:42

Maybe Dior, it's because you are enjoying the focus you are now putting on yourself. You maybe don't need the crafting to gift you a life or help you relax. Just a thought Keep up the good work though, you are doing fabulously well!

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 11:44

That should say give you the lift*

DiornaNoble · 04/07/2008 11:45

Hmmm...maybe! It will come back though I hope.

Thanks for the support.

TimeForMe · 04/07/2008 11:50

It's a pleasure

macdoodle · 04/07/2008 12:37

PC will email you later but hand on heart I would have the MMR my DD1 did and DD2 will too - I know it is controversial but bizarrely enough I have just spent most of the morning with a baby who almost certainly has measles (single jabs not had measles yet only mumps) and pretty scary poorly baby had to warm mum to look out for all the complications - she feels terrible
It is a pretty scary disease IMO though I agree it is by no means an easy decision and you will get both viewpoints strongly felt on MN!
BTW am feeling much better though baby now has cold and teething so we were up most of the night and I am long day in work today ho hum.....will not be around much today will talk later - have pretty much made up my mind re what I wanted advice for but still want to see what you lot think!

Paddlechick666 · 04/07/2008 13:21

Hi Mac, really would appreciate your professional opinion.

i will be insisting dd has measles first, that was already my intention.

we all had it as kids and my mum says it was dreadful.

an ex boyfriend's brother had it at 4yrs and it left him severely mentally disabled.

tbh, i think i'm pretty much there on biting the bullet and organising single shots. i am just so afraid after dd having had a previous reaction.

lilyloo · 04/07/2008 13:30

PC tough one , my 2 had it and dd2 will but they have nevere suffered any adverse reactions to their jabs !

WilyWombat · 04/07/2008 13:45

I think the only thing you can do PC is just go with your gut instinct on this. When I asked my HV advice regarding the subject she said "we are not allowed to recommend single shots" but the vibe I got from her was that she wasnt as pro MMR as the NHS required her to be.

And there we were thinking we lived in democracy eh!!

Another thing I heard was that if you choose not to have your child immunised and come to the attention of SS they regard it as neglect - I dont know how true that is.
