So my sons account got hacked by a friend of mines son who gave the details to someone to hack into. When this was all happening I said if my son's accounts password isn't given to me then im guna have to contact the police and my friend said "do it". So I did call when I didn't get the password. Ive gone upto my friend today and she's said do you really think you should be talking to me? I said why what's the matter? She said well we are under criminal investigation cause of you and we shouldn't be talking. I said well you told me to contact them and she said well it was to shut you up (in so many words) cause you were going off on one. Im really upset because I thought she was my friend and im just so lost now because I literally have no friends outside of my life. Can I just have some friendly words of encouragement because I'm just so lost and feeling so alone right now.

Yeah, she's not much of a friend.
You're much better off without people like that in your life.

ClaredeBear · 16/04/2026 10:00

I think the friendship was lost when you called the police but you did the right thing. It’s crazy they’ve not handed over control of the account. She doesn’t seem like much of a friend if she couldn’t facilitate that for you.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 16/04/2026 10:20

we are under criminal investigation cause of you

She is under criminal investigation because of her son's actions.

Victims of crime have the right to call the police.

Parsleyforme · 16/04/2026 10:20

I don’t know why you’d want to have a friendship with her if you had to report her/her child to the police? I think the friendship is over but I’m sure you could find a nicer friend who doesn’t cause drama. Do you do any hobbies? Or any friends from the past that you could reconnect with? I’m sure there are lovely people who would be very happy to be your friend

AnonymouseDad · 16/04/2026 11:12

What type of account?

Regardless, that person was not and is not a friend.
The criminal investigation is their fault from theirs and their child's actions and refusal to give back access. It is not because of you.

You are far better off without a person like that in yours or your child's life.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 16/04/2026 11:13

It’s obvious the friendship would break down over this OP

Butterme · 16/04/2026 11:34

friend of mines son who gave the details to someone to hack into.

I assume that the other person changed the password, which is why your son couldn’t get into it - so I’m not sure why you were asking friend for the new password as they obviously didn’t have it.

However, the boy did something wrong and he needs consequences.

I can understand why you have lost this friend as you obviously can’t maintain a friendship once the police have been called on your child but I also understand why you felt the need to go to the police if you felt you had no other option and was concerned about photos etc of your son on his account.

Going to the police was extreme, you could have just reported the account and say you’ve been hacked.
But what’s done is done.

The friendship is over and perhaps the son will be taught not to do this again.

How old are they?

Isobel201 · 16/04/2026 11:39

I doubt the police will do anything - I had my microsoft account hacked into and two surface pros were bought using my credit card. I reported it to action fraud but nothing came of it. I got the money back fortunately.

ThisHappyBiscuit · 16/04/2026 11:47

It was his roblox account and they had stolen £45 worth of items which he bought. Theyre 10 years old.

Thatoneisnice · 16/04/2026 11:50

Yeah she wasn't really a friend.
If my son did that you can bet id have been livid and made sure he gave the account details and the money back

Butterme · 16/04/2026 11:50

Have you reported it to Roblox?

They might be able to get the £45 items back and they’ll be much more likely to do anything than the police.

This is a really good lesson for your son to never give out his password to anyone.

My own DD did the same thing years ago and she definitely learnt her lesson from it.

Balloonhearts · 16/04/2026 11:51

No, she's under criminal investigation because her son committed a crime. Not your fault she didn't bring him up better.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 16/04/2026 11:51

Are the police really doing a criminal investigation over a 10 year old giving details of Roblox for a £45 theft? Did you report a 10 year old to the police?

Im not certain a 10 year old will be prosecuted for passing on a password…

Hayley1256 · 16/04/2026 11:52

I wouldn't have reported it to the police. You can report stuff like this to Roblox. My DD doesn't even know her log in details as it's all fully controlled by me

Burningbud1981 · 16/04/2026 11:55

If your son gave the other child the password then he’s not been hacked….?

you should also turn on 2 factor authentication. I get a code to my email when my children log in

Probably not but technically he can be, as age of criminal responsibility is 10. More likely, she will be held accountable for his actions and the fine will be hers to pay.

SpiceGirlsNeedAComeBack · 16/04/2026 11:57

If she was your friend she would of told her son to give you the password, in otherwords she’s a bad parent and a shit friend.

m1ghtl1ke · 16/04/2026 11:57

Yea he shouldn’t have logged into your son’s account but surely you and the other mother could have sorted it between you.

Fine for what?

FloralDeerPattern · 16/04/2026 12:03

I would not have gone to the police and reported a 10 year old over a computer game. That's ridiculous and a waste of police time. Report it to roblox, switch on 2 factor identification so it can't happen again and tell your son not to be a doofus and hand out his password. It sounds like both of you need to learn to be more internet savvy. If you want to stay friends with people in the future find more diplomatic ways of handling things than reporting children to the police.

Whattodo1610 · 16/04/2026 12:11

I hope you’ve spoken to your son about the importance of never ever giving out any passwords/log information to anyone?

Computer misuse act 1990. Google it. Penalties range from fines to imprisonment. Obviously they're not going to imprison a 10 year old so likely it would be a caution or, if it does get to court, a fine.

If course its pure idiocy to not supervise your 10 year old kids online in the first place, so an expensive lesson could be for the best.

Favouritefruits · 16/04/2026 12:14

You are better off with no friends than friends like her! Adults need to be adults why didn’t she get the password off her 10 year old and tell him off???
