Men asking to borrow money

After a second date?

is there ever a genuine reason for a man to ask to borrow money from you when you’ve only met twice?

Ewwwww. Gross

zipadeedodah · 14/12/2025 14:12

Money for what? How much?

No one ever asked me but i'd think they were a loser if they did

Mullaghanish · 14/12/2025 14:12

Nah.. can’t he work for it?

MissConductUS · 14/12/2025 14:13

The reason is that he's a genuine scammer or con artist who is trying it on with you and has no intention of ever paying you back. So that's a genuine reason.

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/12/2025 14:14

I had one ask me for money to get his tattoo finished, I didn’t oblige

£40 to pay a plumber to fix his boiler apparently and he didn’t have enough……

rubyslippers · 14/12/2025 14:15

At least he’s showing his red flag early on and you can bin him

BlueberryOats · 14/12/2025 14:15

No.

Climbinghigher · 14/12/2025 14:15

Well a plumber will cost more than that.

Probably needed for coke or weed (ime of men asking for money)

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/12/2025 14:16

@Lostmycats its quite sad actually if that is a genuine reason, but he should ask a family member.

Meadowfinch · 14/12/2025 14:16

No, he's a freeloader. Don't waste any more time on him.

smallsilvercloud · 14/12/2025 14:17

I’d almost feel embarrassed for him, who’d ask a second date to borrow money. That’s what credit cards and loans are for, I hope it’s your last date with him.

TwistedWonder · 14/12/2025 14:17

Absolutely no fucking way.

You'll never see him or you cash again and even if you did, do you really want to date a man who can’t find £40?

Who paid for the dates?

lemonraspberry · 14/12/2025 14:18

Start of a slippery slope, jump off now whilst you can.

men are like this - they don't think does it look weird, should I really ask. Their entitlement just allows then to ask anyone who might give them the response they want.

Correct, but he's probably stiffed his family members so many times that they won't "loan" him money anymore.

Mammyloveswine · 14/12/2025 14:19

I’m recently dating a man who has just been made redundant, went out last night for his birthday and he still insisted on paying, wouldn’t let me get the bill, he even said he would understand if I didn’t want to date him anymore! I told him not to be daft and tough times happen to everyone! Asking to borrow money so soon is huge red flag!

CheeseyOnionPie · 14/12/2025 14:19

They would be blocked so fast….

TwistedWonder · 14/12/2025 14:19

Did he pay anything towards the dates OP?

Almostwelsh · 14/12/2025 14:20

No. Best case is he's a financially incontinent loser. Worst case is he's testing your boundaries with a small request to see if you're a candidate for a bigger scam or outright abuse.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 14/12/2025 14:23

Ignoring the obvious inability to manage money / financial incontinence (hmmmm sexy)

This man is telling you he is so poor at maintaining relationships he is unable to ask
Parents
Siblings
Cousins
Aunts.or uncles
Friends
Coworkers
Or neighbours.

And a woman met once on hinge is his best bet.

Ps need his plumbers deets. Mine is min
£100 per call out 😅

kittywittyandpretty · 14/12/2025 14:24

Absolutely not
I do feel sorry for men because if they don’t have family, they can rely upon. There’s very little support out there for them.
People generally don’t give a shit but there’s no reason why you should be the one that should

gamerchick · 14/12/2025 14:26

If you carry on with him, he'll stealth move himself into your house. Because 'he can't afford a plumber' there will be a Christmas tale of woe.

Then you'll have yourself a cocklodger.

Squishedpassenger · 14/12/2025 14:27

I was in a group on FB where people share stories about awful men they've dated. I was so.suprised at how many women lend money to dates. Hundreds of pounds!

@Lostmycats its quite sad actually if that is a genuine reason, but he should ask a family member.

Apparently his mum and dad were at a hospital appointment so he couldn’t ask them!
and I forgot to add, his house rented (well so he said) so he shouldn’t even be paying if it was true!
