Ghosted after a great first date. Best response?

1000 replies

WildflowerGardens · 09/12/2025 10:12

I had a first date with a man off hinge on Saturday afternoon - we had coffee and then walked round an illustration fair. The whole time we were laughing and talking animatedly and seemed to have a lot in common. At the end of the date he pulled me into a bear hug and said “see you again soon”.

I texted him that evening to say “Great to meet you, what a fun afternoon!” but he didn’t reply and it’s now Tuesday. I think I’ve been ghosted.

I feel like sending a final message, something like “Ghosting in your forties? I only date grown men: good luck with your ongoing search 👋 ” before blocking him but I’m not sure if I should do this.

My reasoning is that I think ghosting is crap behaviour and people who ghost should be called out on it.

Any advice very welcome.

Leave out slightly and put the blighter on a line of its own.

I'm not taking this thread particularly seriously! @LucyInTheSkyWithNoDiamonds

@WildflowerGardens You can't report anyone for the time they spend on a thread.

That's not against talk guidance.

However, do report away and also maybe report the others who actually linked to your former threads and have come on this journey today with you.

All the best with your date, by the way.

You can report someone for reading through hundreds of your posts from MONTHS ago, finding out key personal information about you and then sharing it publicly in another context, actually.

The whole "ducky" thing sounds like a gay man to me, tbh.

It’s all just a bit weird, the way op is talking to people
I’m doubtful, this is actually a women.

So had best report all the other posters here too who shared that info before I did.

Not especially, though, is it?

On this thread I have had people mine through years worth of my posts and comments to piece together identifying information about me; people “diagnosing” me with various illnesses and others just being very antagonistic.

I am used to opprobrium, frankly, but it is a little wearying.

And no I’m not a man - far too clever and pretty x

Mumsnet allowing obvious bullshit like this is the reason people keep posting it.

This

localnotail · 09/12/2025 18:59

White dating, you should never text twice in a row. Or answer immediately. Clear vibes of desperation. Instead, you should date several people and make THEM wonder why you are not responding straight away.

Or something like that.

Plumnora · 09/12/2025 18:59

The best response is no response.
He's shown you who he is with his silence.
Don't massage his ego further by messaging again. I guarantee that as soon as you do you'll feel horrible, especially when he ignores you again It hurts so much- I really do know!- but walk away, nurse your wounded pride and you'll feel better in a couple of weeks x

You’d know, eh?

Very witty response OP. Do you write for a living by any chance?

berightorbehappy · 09/12/2025 19:00

Do not contact him. He will write you off as a bunny boiler and laugh with his mates about you . Absolute tosser.

The only thing people are bringing up from older threads is stuff you have willingly posted about yourself. It's a public forum

Suggest you step away from this thread and work on what is making you so miserable.

All the best.

He's the balding, short, dentist-lacking bullet

So why are you coming across so devastated about him not being interested in you? Just shrug and block, he was a dick for ghosting you, but you sound incredibly bothered.

BeavisMcTavish · 09/12/2025 19:05

Christ, I made it to page 3 and I won’t be going further… I hope the next 27 pages are people telling you what a hideous human YOU are not him.

Perhaps he got a glimpse into your actual personality and that’s why he’s ghosting you.

you started off sounding lovely and I really felt for you - I don’t like the principle of ghosting, but the masked skipped pretty quick and he’s had a lucky escape.

It’s mostly YOU who is making me miserable - it is onerous to have to respond to your (many, many) antagonistic messages. Other than that, my life is great right now. Off to a lovely party tomorrow, merry Christmas!

Actually he replied earlier this afternoon and we’re seeing each other on Saturday so there. And he called me saggy, so we are even. Get a grip, ducky duck

I think it’s not for the best, all things considered, as we have different texting styles and I’m looking for someone more in contact. No hard feelings

Makingadecision · 09/12/2025 19:09

Leave it. What could you gain from it apart from letting him know it’s upset you, which he won’t care about if he has ghosted you.

He's a balding, short man with bad teeth

Then why are you so bothered that he’s ghosted you?
Sounds like the poor man had a lucky escape if you thought that of him.

Good luck OP. - don’t be the first to text next time, then you won’t worry so much about being Markled/ghosted.

Btw - your actually replied ‘so there’ to another poster?? 🤣 Is this a real post - do grown women (even authors) say ‘so there’? I expected a greater depth of response tbh - but then my Dad’s bigger than your Dad!! 🤣

This doesn't make sense?

Meaning I would want a partner who texts more frequently, and this doesn’t seem to be the case with this guy so I don’t think it would work out. But no hard feelings as he hasn’t done anything wrong
