And Tattle is so renowned for being toxic and vile that there's online articles discussing it and petitions to get it banned. When do you ever see that except for about things like incel forums? 😂

It's not an insult that tattle takes the the piss out of here!!

Tinkly laugh

The last tattoo I had cost me £460, and the artist was hugely sought after! It wasn't even a big tattoo, but the skill! It is absolutely stunning and every time I wear something sleeveless I get compliments. Still can't believe it's on my skin! I think if I added up all of mine (and they're not very many so far), it'd come to almost £3k.

"Chavvy" also amuses me. Are MNers not aware of alternative styles? Or... gasp ...goths?!

Or ones that are very much cultural such as Inuit tattoos.

Nikitaspearlearring · 28/10/2024 21:50

Yes, they'd put me off. Pete Wicks on Strictly... He's my type but not with those tatts, thanks.

I'm sure Pete Wicks is devastated you've rejected him...

Don't feed it.

It and every other has their nose pressed up against the glass here all the time. It's one way glass though, who really cares what they think, or if they even do?

Exactly! It's such an insular approach to life. Like sure, don't like them - but the absurd reaching with insults is just bizarre. It just makes me think some people are a little bit ignorant tbh.

Well said.

It's been posted upthread that other forums have their noses pressed against the glass looking at us......there's a reason for that 😅

I will say that in serious threads looking for help there's an awful lot of support and good advice which is fantastic, but on lighter threads Iike this one it's fascinating how insulting some folk are.

Its fine not to like tattoos, it's fine if they would put you off dating someone, but it's fucking funny when they are used as an indication of moral turpitide. Hence my irreverent comments earlier....from under my bridge apparently🤣

I think this is what surprises me. I've seen some threads filled with incredible kindness and support. Would the posters react the same if the OP said she was covered in tattoos?

This kind of behaviour crops up a lot. The seasonal threads, the Halloween ones especially - posters ignoring UK history and deciding it's American. (So what even if it was? So was Elvis.) It becomes such a drag to see nice threads or lighthearted ones turned into an absolute cesspit of mocking and outright nastiness, from people I assume are otherwise decent?

I'll join you under the bridge. I'll bring tea and crumpets! 😁

Holy shit I can't believe you posted that as I have an Elvis tattoo😄

Never been short of offers male and female.

Bridges are cosy places.

(I actually do have an Elvis tattoo....it's fab)

Ahhhhh that sounds amazing! 😍 I love Elvis! I bet it's gorgeous, I mean...it's Elvis, of course it is!

Same here! I'm currently planning on finishing a full arm (botanical woodland sort of thing?), then I really want something on my stomach. I've seen those sternum tattoos and think they're stunning!

I'm addicted to inkmaster, there's an English guy called Freddie recently who is absolutely amazing.

It's big beards that I just can't stand, but I wouldn't make judgements on someone sporting one as a wrongun.

ScarabBright · 29/10/2024 13:38

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 28/10/2024 21:20

I'm not into tattoos, but wouldn't automatically not like a guy if he had a couple of tattoos. It would completely depend on what they are.

If it's a horrid image that I don't like looking at, then yes, it would put me off. Why would I want to spend so much time looking at something I don't like? Things like devils, skulls, horror type images, naked women, etc...

If it was in inappropriate (to me) areas like the face, again, that would put me off.

Other tattoos I find can look quite good, even for a non tattoo lover like me.

I'm a tattoo lover, but horrid tattoos and naked women tattoos would really put me off a man.

I've just googled it and how have I not heard of this before?! That's my sick bed watching for tonight! The skill some people have is outstanding. I'm terrible for watching when they tattoo me, I find it so interesting but at the same time don't want them to feel under pressure. 🤣

Can't do big beards either, and I don't really like shaved heads on men either - but like you say, it's got no impact on them as a person. They'd just not be for me! Imagine saying every man with a big beard was in some way lacking morally...we'd get (rightfully!) pounced on!

Tattooed people are better than judgy people.

Can’t you be tattooed and judgy?

SunsetSkylane · 29/10/2024 14:21

Think you're missing the point there

AndThereSheGoes · 29/10/2024 15:36

This thread is nuts. Tattoos are a choice. Presumably people make that choice because they judge them as attractive for whatever reason. Other people are allowed to have an option on that choice surely.
It's no different to fillers and Botox or wearing designer labels. No one is forcing you to have them, you choose to look like that.
Its entirely different to things that aren't real choices wearing clothes that don't fit because you can't afford new ones or whether or not to go grey once you get grey hair.

But what's with the trying to leave the most degrading remark with it?

Chav
Mentally unwell
Not much money
Unable to make good choices
Thick
Uneducated
Most likely a criminal

What's wrong with just saying I don't like them, not for me.

It still baffles me that someone can boldly declare that having a tattoo is a sign of mental illness and still believe they are a better person for thinking that way.

People will make those unwarranted judgements about anything at all. Some people have no brakes and think that their role in life is to be a sub-standard parody of Simon Cowell. They won't be changed.

What is different about tattoos is that so many people seem to solicit other people's opinions of them. I don't know why they do that? Those are unique in that they are permanent inks and in asking (there are threads on this fairly frequently), there are judgements made in amongst the 'No, I don't like them', posts.

There will always be posters who make cruel pronouncements about whatever the subject it is, just because they can. They're without basis so why give them credence or their views any standing at all?

I'm not a fan of tattoos because of the idea of permanence. I wouldn't have one. I have no comment to make about the intelligence of people who do or don't have them because that would be stupid.

When this thread started, I reported the chav comment. Mumsnet didn't remove it and told me I could challenge it as long as I followed the rules to do so.

I then went onto another thread and someone had called Ugg boots and botox chavvy and that comment was removed as not in the spirit of the site.

Can you genuinely not see a problem with "well if someone has a tattoo I just presume they are mentally unwell"

It's so damaging!!!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 29/10/2024 16:38

No, you misunderstand me, YellowphantGrey, those people should be kicked off the site. I don't understand the breathtakingly stupid 'labelling' that goes on but it does.

The 'chav' label is horrible, I've seen it on so many threads and I'm surprised that it's allowed to stand but, it often is. I agree that it's damaging. I also think that not giving those posters what they want (a response) is the best 'slap' they can realistically have.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 29/10/2024 16:39

I also agree with you about the moderating, it's inconsistent and unfair because of that.

Sorry, I understand now.

I agree about ignoring them though, I need to do better on that part given that the same names pop up and all they seem to do is stir the pot and leave!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 29/10/2024 16:41

I know, it's so difficult to ignore. The times that I've typed out a response and then just exited the thread without posting it. The posters who say these things are doing it for shits and giggles, they want to get a rise.

In solidarity with you.

SunsetSkylane · 29/10/2024 18:38

I do the same @LyingWitchInTheWardrobe very often start to type a response and think 'what the fuck am I doing with my life' and just leave it.

It's the breathtaking rudeness that's so unbelievable to me, and so unnecessary.

I don't like tattoos at all I'm afraid. I have studied many whilst in swimming pools and honestly never seen one I like. People go on about the artwork etc etc I just don't see it sorry.
Many are absolutely awful btw and do rather date the owner.

( I assume people want strangers looking at there skin trying to read the texts they put all over themselves???).

We are all different and like different things and that's a good thing. Personally I do. not like them so yes it does put me off.

How do tattoos ‘date’ people?
