Just this, really, and why or why not?

I never liked tattoos.

Until I met a man I was really hot for....

....And he had tattoos.

Now I don't mind tattoos 😂

Something benign like that on the right person can make me re evaluate.

Yes, I would be apprehensive of the thought process/psychology/decision-making of someone with tatoos.

Here's mine:

Back tattoo: a dragon with a key in filigree - when I got divorced, bought my own house - the first time I ever had a key to my own house that I bought in Wales.

Wrist tattoos: right wrist is the four years I spent away from home and had hiraeath (the word on my right wrist: homesick/wistfulness); left wrist is when I got selected to play for my country at international level knew I wasn't the best but just to go was ace and had pleidiol (the word on my left wrist: devoted).

Hand tattoo: worked for an archaeology charity and unearthed something as a volunteer with a triskele on it... did a lot of research into where it could have come from and now it's in a museum with my name on it. I commemorated it on my hand.

Please do tell me what is wrong with any of those thought processes? I love all of my tattoos and would never think to speak to anyone else on that score. I find it very weird when people without tattoos think they know anything about it?

Yes, I would be apprehensive of the thought process/psychology/decision-making of someone with tatoos.

Here's mine:

One represents my wedding (to me, you wouldn't know looking at it)

One represents my kids and what I try to teach them about the world (same applies as above)

The others are very very personal to me and mark a particular period of my life that was transformational.

I chose them all carefully, over time, when I was in my 40s.

I think the best way I can describe it is this: now my outside looks like how I feel on the inside. They match. I fucking love the way I look with them.

What's wrong with my ability to make decisions and process thoughts?

Moro93 · 17/10/2024 03:48

I have a feeling that anyone with tattoos, piercings, dyed hair, and whatever else has these posters clutching their pearls, aren’t missing a whole lot by these prejudiced, narrow minded, judgemental snobs saying they dismiss or avoid people with these things.

I’d say it’s all the more reason to go for this style/aesthetic. Perfect repellent for that stuck up, shallow type.

datcherygrateful · 17/10/2024 07:06

To some posters:

@Moro93 Wow.
Someone asking to be MORE UNDERSTANDING is branded as NOT UNDERSTANDING?
Give over. My hair is dyed and I have piercings ahaha. You're not making the point you think you are making. My issue is the PERMANENCE of it. Express, but why brand? We are evolving and growing surely? How you feel at 50 is not the same as how you feel at 30? do temp and keep on expressing. You get a fresh canvas every time.

I didn't say ALL MEN (and again- the OP is asking if tattoos put women off men that you want to date, not "are all tattoos shit on all people and do you judge them?")

Are the posters upthread men? Genuine question. Because if you are a woman, and have tattoos why are you commenting on how great you are at making decisions??? This is not about you.

I'm saying that there lots of bad examples- you can highlight how great your decision process is and tbf your tattoos sound v meaningful and I'm glad you have found a way to express how you feel inside. This is the exception though.

And thank you for actually answering the question and feeding my curiosity instead of shutting down getting defensive and saying "thought it would look nice"

Many shit tattoos out there, on men. Neck tattoos/knuckles/face/blocks- plus the crappy gimmicky ones- That is what I'm trying to understand.

bengalcat · 17/10/2024 07:06

Yes

CallmePaul · 17/10/2024 07:55

Think I'd struggle tbh, not a tattoo fan.

SunsetSkylane · 17/10/2024 11:15

But @datcherygrateful I already answered your inability to understand.

Not everyone likes the same thing! Just because you think a tattoo is shit, doesn't meant it's objectively shit. The person who chose it obviously likes it, and that's the bottom line.

Thatsthebottomline · 27/10/2024 15:08

If the tattoos on a 6 ft 7 bloke who possibly had the tattoo done whilst in prison after a doing a stretch for GBH he must be hard to resist, surely ?

Violent, tall, angry, possible medically unstable, all that possibly to "change", a real man.

Must tick all the boxes....

I have a couple of tattoos, they mean something to me and I can choose to cover them up or show them off.

For those of you who are so judgmental, narrow minded and stereotyping men with tattoos that it would put you off them, get a grip. If done correctly, they are an expression of your personality - My parents never wanted me to get my tattoos but now I have them, they actually really like them.

And for context, I have my own business, earn a 6 figure salary and am mortgage free- never judge a book by its cover - or a man with tattoos.

Genuinely surprised by all the tattoo hate on here, given that 27% of men have at least one tattoo, yet 38% of woman have them…..

oh, and lots of woman have shit tattoos as well, it’s not just us blokes!

I’ve never actually heard that saying to be honest, if I was bragging I would actually specify what my 6-figure salary was - I was merely proving a Point that just because a man has a tattoo it does not mean he is a down and out thug with no career or aspiration’s, a point you have clearly completely missed. .

Where do you live where your surrounded by 6ft 7 men that have been released from prison after serving a sentence for GBH?!

Honestly, you're embarrassing yourself at this point. You can just say you don't like tattoos, you don't need to invent stereotypes as though it's a regular occurance to reinforce your dislike for them

Thing is, tattoos can be disguised or even removed. You can never do that with your personality.

I mean. This comment doesn't really make your intelligence up there with the highest does it?

Why wouldn't there be a difference in the top and bottom 10%?

You belong in the bottom 10% if you think there isn't a difference and you definitely belong in the bottom 10% if you think a tattoo lowers intelligence.

It amazes me that people like you come onto these threads and tear into people with tattoos, label them thick, believe they have mental health issues, believe they are of low intelligence, believe they are chavs, believe they are scum, believe they are criminals etc and happily call people that and yet still think you are better.

You're the one making the prejudices though and believing you are better and coming on here, thinking you're showing intelligence is even worse.

I really feel sorry for people like you.

dixon86 · 13/10/2024 13:11

Yes. Tattoos are very common and chavvy

No they're not. Ridiculous comment

You are though. You've formulated this wee idea in your head that tattoos equal intelligence because it aligns with your prejudices and you use this against people but with the idea that you makes you look wildly intelligent.

Like I said, I pity you. Sad thing is you've probably had interactions with people with tattoos in real life who might have thought you were ok and you wouldn't have known because their tattoos are covered.

Bluevelvetsofa · 27/10/2024 16:21

I have noticed that quite often, people get a tattoo or maybe too, then another and another and so on.

A small shoulder/ wrist/ ankle tattoo can look quite attractive, but the more ink people have, the less attractive it often becomes. As well as fading, wrinkly skin with tattoos isn’t a good look imo.

I’ve had the same hairdresser for nearly three years. During that time, he’s had more and more tattoos, so both arms and legs are completely covered, as are his fingers.

I think it’s a problem if you don’t know when to stop and anything on the neck and face is off putting.
