Just this, really, and why or why not?

I'd never judge anyone for doing what they wanted to do to their own body. I don't find tattoos attractive though I appreciate that other people love them. It wouldn't necessarily put me off dating someone on its own, though that would also depend on the kind of tattoo - a modest celtic (Irish, not the football team) knot on the shoulder wouldn't bother me, but a life size chest ink of Farage surrounded by England flags would probably give me the ick 😂

There is a 100% chance that Nigel Farage has a life size Nigel Farage tattoo on his chest.

Parsley1234 · 13/10/2024 22:00

@SunsetSkylane its not just female only BA interview for crew you have to show your face neck hands arms as part of your interview

twentysevendresses · 13/10/2024 22:05

Depends on where and what they are.

One of these would be fine by me...the other, absolutely not! I'll leave you to guess which is which 😂

Yes @Parsley1234 but legs are only an issue if you're not allowed to wear trousers for Stupid Reasons Designed By The Patriarchy.

GiddyRobin · 14/10/2024 02:19

No, I like tattoos and have several really beautiful ones myself; wrist to elbow sleeve and one on my leg. My DH is an artist so designed them. He has one small one on his upper bicep and I love it.

I don't like facial tattoos or neck tattoos, but as long as they're nicely done, well looked after (the ones that fade and go grey quickly haven't been cared for or just done badly), and not offensive then I'd not have a problem.

Yes. Tattoos are very common and chavvy

Do you remember Samatha Cameron's dolphin tattoo? Not sure we could call her chavvy albeit I wasn't keen on that particular tattoo!

sadmillenial · 14/10/2024 02:55

Not all tattoos are equal

I have awesome tattoos from amazing artists, massive coverage with very little "open" skin... i love tattoos. I am also a massive snob about crap tattoos, because if you want things on your body forever then i dont get why people dont research and make sure they get something good?

But i dont expect others to share every opinion i have, i know people with crap tattoos - they aren't crap people 😂 Seems a tad ridiculous to dismiss people because they like something aesthetic that you dont??

But I find all tattoos gross so I will dismiss those who have them. I just can’t.

I'm the same with coloured hair. I find it really gross. I dismiss anyone with their hair anything but their natural colour.

M74 · 14/10/2024 08:16

Man here.

Can't stand tattoos. Can't stand piercings either. Especially those septum piercings that make someone look like that have a big, shiny blob of snot dangling from each nostril. Didn't think anything could turn me off as much as smoking does, yet here we are!

Still, each to their own.

DaisychainXYZ · 14/10/2024 08:48

Absolutely yes I hate them ( and piercings)

aCatCalledFawkes · 14/10/2024 09:00

I don't have any tattoos, I have no inclination to want to go out and get one however I don't judge people for having them, that feels petty and disingenuous.

My boyfriend has a couple, I don't even think about them and there mainly covered up anyway so only seen if he not got a top on.

My daughter had her ears pierced at our local tattoo parlour at the age of 11yrs, they were amazing with her and used a piercing needle instead of a horrid gun.

I probably judge people more for not taking their kids to tattoo parlors for ear piercings than I do for people who have tattoos.

unmemorableusername · 14/10/2024 09:04

Yes. I specifically avoid tattooed guys.

@WetBandits WetBandits

Isn’t it so funny how whenever a thread about tattoos pops up, the tattoo haters fall over themselves to say how ‘tacky’ and ‘chavvy’ they think tattooed people are, but you never hear any of us with tattoos ridiculing people who don’t have or like them?

No. Because untattooed skin is a natural state. To get a tattoo is to choose to deface your body permanently.

It would be downright dense to 'ridicule' someone for not having a tattoo or not liking them. It would be like ridiculing someone who chose not to shave their head or get over-inflated trout pout lips. It's irrational to ridicule something that is a choice to make yourself more ugly.

Tattoos are a formal of tribal body modification and originated in barbaric and uneducated social groups. Evolved and intelligent people would not engage in tattoo body modification any more than they would do this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lip_plate

Even the Ethiopian government is trying to dissaude this practice. Tattoos are of the same ilk.

So people with tattoos cannot be intelligent? I'll have to change my surgeon. Bloody hell. Who knew.

Both are truly hideous.

MrsSunshine2b · 14/10/2024 12:34

It really depends.

Swastikas, offensive/controversial tattoos or anything that contradicts my values would be an instant no.

Under-employed guy with facial/visible tattoos which are obviously going to stop him progressing shows bad judgement and I don't want to be bankrolling a guy who is never going to be financially stable.

Arty type successful in a creative field, or professional with tattoos which can easily be covered, who cares?

My brother and his wife are both dentists doing very well for themselves, she has some tattoos and he has several large tattoos including his whole calf. My Mum hit the roof about it (she still doesn't know that he ran out of money and I ended up paying for it otherwise I'd be for it as well! 😂) but it's caused him zero problems.

How do you know what their natural colour is? Does that get awkward at work when you need to decide whether to dismiss a colleague's opinion or not?

"Linda, before you continue about your proposed strategy for streamlining this process, are you a natural blonde or are those highlights? I need to work out whether I respect you or not."

That’s one of the most ignorant comment's I've ever read on here.

She was pointing out how silly it is!

I recognise @K0OLA1D from other threads, and I don’t believe for a second this was a serious comment Grin

How ridiculous it is to judge by appearance really. I'd expect to be called out about judging someone's hair as gross. But body art, it's fine!

Oh right. Irony is easily lost on a thread like this where genuine opinions are so out-of-sync with modern society. I'm wondering whether the majority of posters are either really old, or working in very traditional workplaces with old-fashioned ideas about presentation. I don't even think tattoos are particularly edgy any more. Plenty of middle-class privately educated kids have a few.

Sure, but a tattoo is always of something. There are tattoos and tattoos. All of them are communicating something about the person who has them, whether they’re Maori tribal tattoos on Hugo from his gap yah, or home made prison tattoos, or an ex-girlfriend’s name or an entire landscape all over your torso, or the rose with barbed wire cliché or something insanely expensive from a famous tattooist, of the other many types.
