Just this, really, and why or why not?

I always recall David Mitchell stating he'd trust his accountant a little less if he rolled up his sleeves to reveal arm tatts... 🤭

What, because having a tattoo means you aren't good at maths?

That's the comment of a well to do Little Englander closed minded type, who deems you 'in' if you were the right tie and are a member of the right clubs.

YellowphantGrey · 13/10/2024 18:13

Right, so we can give offensive answers and not expect any comeback?

People don't stand for the word chav or chavvy being used on any other thread, why is it ok here?

It's a pretty sad state of affairs when it's acceptable to call people mentally unwell because they have tattoos or to verbally abuse them and not expect anyone to object for their shitty behaviour

People will start threads about hot tubs( sex ponds) garden bars, garden trampolines, huge inflatable Santa's , long fake nails, caterpillar eyebrows on here. Many people, including myself, will think thise things are massively chavvy. People are entitled to different opinions. Some people love tattoos. Some people ( me) think they're vile. The world won't end.

Branleuse · 13/10/2024 18:32

Depends on the tattoos I guess, but its never been something that puts me off.

Thing is, what does a chav look like to you? As for me, it brings Vicky Pollard vibes and that is so far from me.

I'd prefer to be called a sweaty greebo than a chav. Start using that as an insult instead.

PlumpPlumpington · 13/10/2024 18:34

Yes.

Tattoos don't look good on anyone. Most of them look like the individual's got some sort of hideous skin condition or infection.

Genuinely don't get the appeal of them. I couldn't think of a single thing I'd like enough that I wanted it inked on my skin for the rest of my life.

DaffodilPants · 13/10/2024 18:36

Do you rush to tell people how awful their hair cuts are? Or the colour of their hair? Or their outfit? Or their jewellery? Or their house decor? Or their coat?

All these can be easily changed A tattoo is forever.

I suppose it can be removed, but that would be admitting it was a bad decision in the first place.

Again your missing the point. Everyone likes and dislikes different things but for some reason, when it comes to tattoos, any phrases used to describe them are acceptable that wouldn't be anywhere else on the site and those same people objecting to tattoos are using language they've previously objected to elsewhere

People wouldn't describe any of what you've mentioned the same way they describe someone with tattoos so what makes having a tattoo mean it's acceptable to describe them as having a mental health problem? Or saying they are thick and unemployable?

user2848502016 · 13/10/2024 18:37

No, I don't like them personally but DH got a couple when he was young and now regrets it and doesn't like them anymore

Barabajagal · 13/10/2024 18:40

I like bold confident tattoos. Some are stunning.

DaffodilPants · 13/10/2024 18:49

The majority of posters objecting to tattoos don't just answer yes or no, they go on to call people with tattoos thick, chavvy, disgusting, horrid, mentally unwell, incapable etc

To be fair the OP does ask the reason why it puts you off.

So you can be as derogatory as you like towards someone's personal choice if it's a permanent choice?

And it's ok to refer to them as scummy, skeezy, mentally unwell and unemployable if their personal choice is a permanent choice?

Good to know.

And you think that saying someone who has a tattoo is mentally unwell is acceptable?

It wouldn't be acceptable for me to say your haircut makes you look mentally unwell would it?

What's the difference?

I have tats but don't like face, neck, full sleeves and on some really weird ones I've seen on legs of men and women.
David Beckenham why did you do it? You used to be good looking before all the ink and arm ink.

So was Adam Lambert. I always thought of him as edgy but now he's just following the pack

Abracadabra12345 · 13/10/2024 18:55

Sethera · 13/10/2024 13:39

Yes, it would be off-putting, they're a sign nowadays of a 'follow the herd' type person.

I just wrote about Adam Lambert and you've nailed it!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/10/2024 18:55

They didn't seem to do Popeye any harm.

Although he could get a bit 'fisty' once he had been on the 'spinach', but 'he was what he was'

Common, chavvy people like King George V and Lady Randolph Churchill you mean?

Or Lady Londonderry her snake tattoo was apparently legendary.

CrushingOnRubies · 13/10/2024 18:57

No in general

But it does depend on what it is and where

Gocompared · 13/10/2024 18:59

Yup totally would. Can’t stand them and sorry they do look really naff to me.

MaiAamWaliHun · 13/10/2024 18:59

No. Seems a bit shallow to do so.

HomeSomeday · 13/10/2024 19:02

@YellowphantGrey

Are you new here. People absolutely call things like hot tubs, garden bars etc chavvy, tacky, low class etc. It's not just tattoos.

You should read the way people describe autumn decor. 😲🤣

Grazyna80 · 13/10/2024 19:45

Not at all. I like tattoos. Now they look like artwork, at least some of them. Also I think they are sexy.

HomeSomeday · 13/10/2024 17:29

I've never seen a job stating no visable tattoos. What jobs are those? Sound like awful employers

I know a woman who had a tattoo on her leg that got rejected as cabin crew a few years ago.

And if they didn't insist on female crew wearing skirts and heels like it's 1974, it wouldn't matter a fuck. The tattoo was not the real problem there.

HomeSomeday · 13/10/2024 20:23

I didn't say it was right, just that it's an example of a job where you couldn't have a tattoo, as a pp said they didn't know of any.

MayaPinion · 13/10/2024 21:20

I'd never judge anyone for doing what they wanted to do to their own body. I don't find tattoos attractive though I appreciate that other people love them. It wouldn't necessarily put me off dating someone on its own, though that would also depend on the kind of tattoo - a modest celtic (Irish, not the football team) knot on the shoulder wouldn't bother me, but a life size chest ink of Farage surrounded by England flags would probably give me the ick 😂

Oh I know, I wasn't having a go at you at all, just the double standards women have to put up with!
