Just this, really, and why or why not?

Which of course is absolutely fine.

Would you then go on a public forum and make a thread or comment on a thread about how someone with no hair is horrible, unattractive or ugly or had issues etc?

People cannot get arsey or offended for me asking questions when the verbal abuse on here towards people with tattoos is disgusting.

What is it about tattoos that people's think they verbalise their distaste with offensive and narrow-minded comments and then get arsey because someone points it out to them?

People have probably posted threads asking if a man bun or a buzz cut or a beard would put you off a guy. These are perfectly valid questions. My answers would be no yes no.

Hotafternoon · 13/10/2024 17:57

I'm not a fan of tattoos but I'm quite old and they weren't really a thing when I was growing up. Most tattoos seemed to be worn by men who worked the fairground, were military or been to prison or borstal.

I can appreciate the artistry and skill used but in the case of the highly decorated, full colour sleeve tattoos, they remind me of a snake and I really don't like snakes. 😱

Whiskeymalavodkaade · 13/10/2024 17:58

My husband is such a reserved man, and a traditional professional. He also loves talented tattoo artists and has two full arm sleeves of amazing art. I think they are gorgeous, but also it’s his choice not mine.

But those threads wouldn't be full of people calling bald men 'chavs', 'grubby', 'thick', 'rough'... sure I've missed a few!

QueenMegan · 13/10/2024 18:00

Yes on their knuckles or neck. However if they are buff I make an exception as long as it's not thr names of children ex girlfriends

Why are you so bothered? People don't like everything. If you feel the comments cross a line, then report them. If it's opinions like saying they look ugly/unattractive, then you're just going to have to accept that is some people's opinion because I doubt mumsnet will delete that.

I mean they probably would.

So why can't a simple yes or no answer be given here?

The majority of posters objecting to tattoos don't just answer yes or no, they go on to call people with tattoos thick, chavvy, disgusting, horrid, mentally unwell, incapable etc

One person’s ‘amazing art’ is another’s vulgar cartoons.

ZZGirl · 13/10/2024 18:08

Nope, I love tattoos, got loads myself.

K0OLA1D · 13/10/2024 18:08

Mirabai · 13/10/2024 18:05

I highly doubt it would be tattoo thread level.

wizzywig · 13/10/2024 14:29

I'm not into tattoos at all, the ones that make me cringe inside are ones on the face, sayings like 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger ' . You just know they are the kind of person who has catalogue shopping debts, and their holidays are about making memories

Tattooed people are better than judgy people.

Because people tend to give reasons for their answers.

I'm bothered because people are having a go at me for pointing out it's not really acceptable to say people with tattoos are chavs and are mentally unwell, ugly, unattractive, incapable, gross, etc.

It wouldn't happen on any other thread, why is it OK here?

I called ugg boots chavvy on another thread and someone on here absolutely ripped me a new one, saying chavvy was an unacceptable and derogatory term, yet they've described a person with tattoos as chavy.

I'm also allowed my opinion and can disagree with people using derogatory terms, unless mumsnet have changed the rules?

How many MN threads don’t involve class based judgments or descend into fisticuffs at some point? 😂

K0OLA1D · 13/10/2024 18:13

Because people tend to give reasons for their answers.

So people can't give answers without falling into calling people with tattoos names? Poster on page 2 managed it...

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · Today 13:40

Yes. I really don't like tattoos on either men or women

And I'm sure there were others.

YellowphantGrey · 13/10/2024 18:13

Mirabai · 13/10/2024 18:09

Because people tend to give reasons for their answers.

Right, so we can give offensive answers and not expect any comeback?

People don't stand for the word chav or chavvy being used on any other thread, why is it ok here?

It's a pretty sad state of affairs when it's acceptable to call people mentally unwell because they have tattoos or to verbally abuse them and not expect anyone to object for their shitty behaviour

Don’t ask me I haven’t used it.

dixon86 · 13/10/2024 13:11

Yes. Tattoos are very common and chavvy

Common, chavvy people like King George V and Lady Randolph Churchill you mean?

Jazzicatz · 13/10/2024 18:15

HelenInHeels · 13/10/2024 13:06

Just this, really, and why or why not?

I love tattoos, I have them myself and I find them very attractive on others. I would date a man with tattoos most definitely.

PattiSmithsPattis · 13/10/2024 18:16

I have a tattoo. And piercings.
I like tattoos on men.
It wouldn't put me off dating a man.
There are things that would.
But I don't hold the belief that we all think the same way way & if we don't then the other person/people are wrong (insert diss of your choosing)
I wonder why tattoo choices are so divisive?

NewGreenDuck · 13/10/2024 18:17

Yes, I don't live tattoos.

HomeSomeday · 13/10/2024 18:17

I'm bothered because people are having a go at me for pointing out it's not really acceptable to say people with tattoos are chavs and are mentally unwell, ugly, unattractive, incapable, gross, etc.

Mumsnet have deleted the term chav before so ask them.

Posters saying people with tattoos look unattractive, ugly, gross etc to them is just an opinion and will be allowed to stand. It is acceptable to say it even if you don't find it nice.

Moro93 · 13/10/2024 18:20

No, the opposite. Unless they were face tattoos or really common ones guys get like tribal tattoos or football ones. To me it shows personality, I like if someone is passionate enough about something to get a tattoo or likes artistic pieces enough.

The things that would put me off is smoking, being obsessive over football, drinks a lot or has multiple kids with multiple exes.

Nezuko22 · 13/10/2024 18:23

It’s absolutely fine to not find tattooed people attractive. It’s fine to find them gross, unattractive, messy etc. I say this has a tattooed and pieced person myself! What’s not ok is making judgement on character based on tattoos. I for example, can’t stand beards on men. I think they’re revolting. Yet imagine I said that man with the beard was mentally ill, probably unemployed, can’t make sensible decisions etc? Not ok.
