Physically attacked my DD16

Nc, feel disgusted and hate myself. I seriously physically attacked my DD16 yesterday causing her ear to bleed where she had earrings in. I'm vile, not fit to be called a mother and should have never had children. I'm ruining their lives. I'm a piece of shit.

I've spoken to Womens Aid. I'm not in a safe space mentally. I'm getting dressed and going to A&E.

I think that is a good decision.

Awfulmother1 · 01/09/2024 13:04

I need to look after myself for once. I need to be admitted and should have been years ago. I'm so sad I'm putting my children through this. I need to ring a taxi and leave before they get home.

Have you looked into whether there is any link between your emotions/behaviour and your cycle? As I've gone into (early) perimenopause at 40, I get horrendous red mists of rage, especially pre-menstrually. I think it's PMDD. Could be worth speaking to GP.

I wondered this too.

A difficult upbringing, feeling isolated and having various mental health issues...combined with a very long summer holiday and three kids. This is challenging enough. But then add in potential hormonal problems, and it's an absolute recipe for disaster.

I'm not excusing what the op did...it was terrible, she knows that.

Lourdes12 · 01/09/2024 13:04

It is infuriating when kids don't do as they are told. If she doesn't clean her bedroom and contribute to chores in the house there needs to be consequences rather than resorting to violence. What consequences do you have in place for her behaviour?

Youmwarayoum · 01/09/2024 13:04

So we have an aggressive, selfish and difficult daughter and an abusive husband, and now we have peri menopause too. Any other excuses PP want to throw it to defend OP’s completely unacceptable behaviour?

Funny how OP doesn’t lash out and hit her husband or another grown adult.

I think you need to get some urgent professional help op for your own sake as well as your families

OP good luck. I know you likely have a hard road ahead of you but I really hope that accepting help can bring big positive changes to your own life and your relationship with your children.

British parenting is so weird. Why is a 16 year old shushing her mother (what the FUCK?!), not listening, being disrespectful, and throwing things in retaliation?

If I had done that, or anyone I grew up with for that matter, there would have been hell to pay. So I am shocked that this awful girl’s behaviour is being defended. OP is being disrespected in her own home. The 16 year old needs to fix up or leave and live independently if she’s a woman now.

In the UK a 16 year old is a child, they're adults at 18. We don't tend to condone attacking children; we have laws to prevent that.

No one's defending the daughter's bad behaviour, if what the OP is saying is true, it's awful. Many are criticising the OP for attacking her child and wondering how abusive she is; it could be the tip of the iceberg.

I'm sorry you live in a culture that condones child abuse. That can't have been easy for you growing up.

I just don't know what to believe on this thread.
I feel like OP is saying what she needs to to justify her actions.

Agree with this. Considering OP raised her husband taking their daughters out today as a criticism, I can’t help but wonder what else she has given a negative meaning to.

Vile? How so?

She also assaulted her mother. It's in the OPs posts.

But who will look after you DS12?

Chocsaucee · 01/09/2024 13:07

OP I am sorry this has happened.

I watched a documentary once where a woman was abused by her family and she snapped one day too.

It stemmed from the husband - he put the woman down all the time, subtly mostly, but just enough hints here and there that "mum is crazy", "mum is stupid","we don't listen to mum" you get the point. In the end, the children also treated her the same - didn't take her seriously, treated her like she was stupid etc.

Then the husband would swoop in to 'save' the day and the children from their deranged mother.

This sounds very similar from your posts.

Not condoning the violence, However, your household does not sound healthy across the board and if you have the above dynamic then it's not surprising.

I'm glad you are going to the hospital - it's a brave step.

Ring 111 or the equivalent where you live. You'll be waiting hours and hours in A&E and a 111 hcp may be able to signpost you to more appropriate people.

Treeinthesky · 01/09/2024 13:08

Maybe start some sertraline and propranolol.

Oh it was lovely! Children were children, not mini adults, boundaries were clear, the elders were respected and the children behaved like civilised human beings. 🥰 So yeah, reading about this awful girl acting like the woman of the house makes my skin crawl.
she won’t get very far in life, that’s for sure.

Go straight away @Awfulmother1 . It's important that you go and get well. You getting well will only benefit the kids in the long run. Your not doing something bad to them by seeking help. Your absence now will benefit them and you moving forward.
