Hello!

I was in a relationship for 6 years and 2 years ago he just disappeared. We didn't live together because I have a child and I didn't want him living with us. I didn't really have any plans tbh, was just enjoying it all.

He met DD after 3 years and was actually brilliant with her, his mum and family were also lovely towards us too.

So on a Tuesday AM 2 years ago he left mine for work at 5am and it's the last time I saw him.

I realised at around lunchtime that I had been blocked. I got a txt that night from his best friend saying:
"* has dumped you. Do not attempt to contact him across ANY channels or his family or friends!!!!!!!"

I didn't try to BTW, I was too embarrassed. I just deleted his number and avoided his area as best as I could.

Anyway roll on to work this arvo and I get this message:

Him: "Hey me how are you? How's DD?"

Me: "sorry who's this? I don't have your number in my contacts"

Him: Ben.

I haven't replied and just deleted his message but shit after 2 years and the way i was dumped it was so unexpected.

My friends think I should have replied.

Must be tempting to text his best friend and say
"Ben keeps contacting me. I have dumped him. Please tell him not to attempt to contact me across ANY channels or my family or friends!!!!!!!"

Your friends are likely curious/nosy and want to hear what he has to say. Like your life is a novel or Harlan Coban thing on Netflix. But you are right to block the arsehole.

Strawberrypicnic · 02/07/2024 14:11

Wow the audacity. Definitely right to ignore

DisforDarkChocolate · 02/07/2024 14:12

I'd have replied 'Fuck off you twat', and then blocked him.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 02/07/2024 14:18

@imagiantwitch it's a meme.

Not concerned exactly, but interested to know what was going on. This is a man OP was with for 6 years, presumably he wasn't a shit for all of it. I'd want to know what changed.

I'm not saying I'd be right btw, OP's approach is much better, I'm just not sure I could do it.

Me too, I'd at least want to answer why he walked out and left so suddenly and got his friend to dump me in such a cruel way.

Then I'd block him.

Good on you op for not giving him the time of day.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 02/07/2024 14:30

Because he's a callous cruel arsehole with the emotional development and maturity of protozoa and an IQ of parsley.

There you are. Answered

Julianne65 · 02/07/2024 14:39

Well done for not replying and for blocking! What an arse of a man he is!

DezTheMoaner · 02/07/2024 15:12

" has dumped you. Do not attempt to contact him across ANY channels or his family or friends!!!!!!*!"

Now, I will be the first to admit that I read too many novels, BUT it crosses my mind to think "we only have his so-called best friend's word for this".

Imagine the friend wanted to split you up from his mate, so he gets access to his phone in the pub one lunchtime when your BF has gone to the gents and blocks your number, then he texts you his bogus message and you block the BF and cut him out of your life: neither of you would ever know what he'd done.
I'm still working on the motivation, (money, revenge, maliciousness?) but I think I may have the plot for my new novel - but don't worry, you all live happily ever after because I'm a romantic at heart.

corkscrewedup · 02/07/2024 15:26

[apologies slight derail of the thread to address @DezTheMoaner s new novel plot

Imagine the friend wanted to split you up from his mate, so he gets access to his phone in the pub one lunchtime when your BF has gone to the gents and blocks your number, then he texts you his bogus message and you block the BF and cut him out of your life: neither of you would ever know what he'd done.

I don't think that would work because the (innocent in this scenario) bf would be worried about his gf if he couldn't get hold of her by phone and she was not responding and would 'track her down' by some means - whether by texting her friends, going to her home or her work if they were in a 6 year relationship.

You'd need to have some way of leading the bf to believe he was dumped.]

Modernfamily2011 · 02/07/2024 16:02

You are much stronger than me :-) I would 100% want to know what happened and why he disappeared like that - it might have been worth listening to the messages just to see what he had to say for himself!

Either way, well done you x

taylorswift1989 · 02/07/2024 16:02

You'd have to send the same message from the GF's phone and then delete and block him... I think you should write it, @DezTheMoaner but from the saboteur's point of view!

queensonia · 02/07/2024 16:05

I'd reply" "I don't any Bens. You've got the wrong number"
Then BLOCK

roses321 · 02/07/2024 16:19

Your friend is full of crap, I applaud you for your graceful behaviour.

I would have probably said "I don't know a ben?" and let him remind you... and then i'd probably say... no sorry I still don't know who you are talking about.

I'd take my revenge by making him feel completely insignificant. I am clearly far more antagonistic than I like to admit! haha

sweatervest · 02/07/2024 16:24

the people who don't like it when you have boundaries are those who took advantage when you didnt have boundaries. (as said by sharon stone)

good for you for blocking.

LilacButterflies · 02/07/2024 05:08

Mintyt
Thank you for saying that!
Strangely though I'm not even curious about what he wants.

I think you can guess what he wants, tbh.

gardenmusic · 02/07/2024 16:52

When i was 16, I was chucked by my boyfriends sister, via my mum, as i was out at the time.
Mum kept her on the phone for some time:
'No, sorry, can't place that one. Is he the blond? No? Don't tell me, don't tell me, he's the one in the RAF! Oh. The brickie? and so on.
In the end, Mum said she'd pass on the message - what was his name again? There are so many come knocking here...

Your mum sounds terrific! What a great way to handle things.

OP has done absolutely the right thing here. The twat couldn't even manage an apology so no point listening to anything he has to say. Sounds like her friends are after some drama in their lives but OP doesn't need to provide them with it. Onwards and upwards OP!

gardenmusic · 02/07/2024 17:44

There was a poster who was dumped by text, and told 'no reply necessary'.
He turned himself inside out when she took him at his word!

LifeExperience · 02/07/2024 17:49

Your friend is wrong. Continue to ignore. You deserve some peace of mind.

But the boyfriend would have come round to the house...

Well would he, if he'd received the same type of "Don't contact me and stay away from my friends and family" kind of message? She didn't go looking for him because she thought he'd told her not to:

Choochoo21 · 02/07/2024 19:47

I would ignore but not block, purely out of curiosity.

If you’re worried he may draw you back then it’s best to keep him blocked.

My guess is his relationship that he left you for has now finished and he’s feeling horny and wants attention.

It's unlikely, but would make a good movie
