Dating a guy with an awful first name (light-hearted)

To be clear - this is a lighthearted thread - I know he can't help his name and I'm obviously going to carry on seeing this guy - we met on a dating app and I knew his name before matching with him.. but it's a very unsexy name.. really not a fan of it. Can't figure out a nickname that works either (he's told me a nickname his friends use too and I'm not a fan of that either) - although to be clear he has no idea I have any qualms with his name of course!

So for anyone else who's ever done this - I assume you just get used to the name after a while and it stops being so strange!?... Um.. right...!?

Feel free to guess his name/give me your worst names for a guy and if it would ever stop you from dating him?

It's such an old fashioned name and just reminded me of Roy Cropper.

I also had a boyfriend named Roy and I have been reading the thread waiting for this name to come up.

His dads name was Rob, why not call him Rob. Roy is dreadful.

Genuinely the most surprising celeb baby name I've ever heard of!

But Trevor is considered a normal and useable name in the US too. Can't see Barry having a resurgence in the UK for at least another 30 years.

I love this thread! Baz is unforgiveable. 😂Call him Arry and everyone will think he's called Harry and it's your accent.😜It makes me like him without even knowing him though as it's full of character.

Name changed as no one else could have such a history of awful ex names - I’ve dated a Malcolm, Donal, Kyle, Maurice and a Warren - and I’m only in my early 40’s so my age isn’t an excuse. You get used to the names, especially if you find them hot!

And if someone asked me the name I liked least of my exes it would be Lee - which is pretty normal really.

Apart from Lee and Wayne (which really are terrible) I don't think any of those specific "terrible" names or the "terrible" names on this thread generally are terrible.

Wilf or Wilfred was mentioned a while back - that just makes me think of Wilfred Owen.

My first boyfriend as a teenager was Douglas which I cringed at at the time but have come round to and kind of like now. Also dated a Keith which hasn't had the same redemption arc.

My late father in law was Douglas known as Dougie pronounced Doogie.

When I was younger I dated two guys called Colin which I have never liked.

I read that she had a British branch of the family who originated from Middlesbrough and so, in recognition of them, she was strongly considering calling him Tees.
