Dating a guy with an awful first name (light-hearted)

To be clear - this is a lighthearted thread - I know he can't help his name and I'm obviously going to carry on seeing this guy - we met on a dating app and I knew his name before matching with him.. but it's a very unsexy name.. really not a fan of it. Can't figure out a nickname that works either (he's told me a nickname his friends use too and I'm not a fan of that either) - although to be clear he has no idea I have any qualms with his name of course!

So for anyone else who's ever done this - I assume you just get used to the name after a while and it stops being so strange!?... Um.. right...!?

Eugene always makes me think of the (for then very high tech) computer in First Class, presented by Debbie Greenwood, back in the 80s!

I had fantasies about a man that I used to see in our office sometimes (big, open plan and he worked on a different floor). As soon as I found out he was called Brian, it put me off. Can’t explain it, I just couldn’t imagine the name coming out of my mouth.

Barry’s not too bad.

Although it does make me think of Barry Shit Peas.

Worst male name I heard was Stacey, also Jody anything that seems to feminine would put me off. I'd rather Barry over Wayne though.

Many couples develop nicknames for each other that are ok to use in public, and usually have some "in joke" meaning for the couple. Just expedite coming up with one for him😀

Maybe call him ‘B’, if you stay long enough to become familiar. It’s a dreadful name, though.

Roy is just terrible.

I know a Roy who gets called Royston but his name is just Roy. He's 75 though.

I don’t think Barry is that bad but I went to school with a Barry and he was fit so I guess I associate that name with him 😄

Bruce, Keith, Ken, Les and similar aren’t great but I could deal with it if I really liked them.

For it to be a dealbreaker for me to even date them it would have to be pretty bad like Ernest, Melvin or Cecil or something like that!

I once had a crush on a chap callled Dougal.

I briefly dated a Kevin. His sister called him "Special K" and his mates called him "Ket" as in short for Ketamine. He was a twat.

This made me laugh way more than it should have! 😆

I went on a date with a Noel when I was in my late teens. I didn’t have a second date because I couldn’t bring myself to say his name. I know a Neville shortened to Nev and a friend once dated a Dwayne.
