Dating a guy with an awful first name (light-hearted)

To be clear - this is a lighthearted thread - I know he can't help his name and I'm obviously going to carry on seeing this guy - we met on a dating app and I knew his name before matching with him.. but it's a very unsexy name.. really not a fan of it. Can't figure out a nickname that works either (he's told me a nickname his friends use too and I'm not a fan of that either) - although to be clear he has no idea I have any qualms with his name of course!

So for anyone else who's ever done this - I assume you just get used to the name after a while and it stops being so strange!?... Um.. right...!?

My partner hates his name (i really don't think its bad but it doesn't really suit him) he has a very long established nickname (20 years +) which is really nice, and everyone knows. I very rarely call him by his actual name unless he is in trouble 😅

I dated a Barry many many years ago. Great bloke (with a couple of awful tendencies to call me by his ex's name and compare everything to her) but I never did get over the ick of his name.

He got Baz mostly, Barry by his mum, Bal (pronounced Baowh in his part of the world) and a few called him a name derived from the place he grew up (think Geordie) but no, I never did like his name.

Clive is pretty bad. Who gives birth to a lovely little baby and thinks 'Aww, he looks like a Clive!'? Nigel has a similar wussy vibe. You would have to accept the person but just try to ignore the name.

My DH has a name that I’ve never liked. Maybe it helps that he doesn’t like it either due to the association most people have with the name. He admits that had he been younger he would have gone with his middle name but he’s too well known in his industry with his first name now. Seriously though you will get used to it.

I had this nearly 40 years ago. Nice man, horrible shoes and awful name.

we've been married 3G years now and I'm used to the name (and the even more awful abbreviation of it). But I still dislike his taste in shoes.

I feel this. I met a boy who was really cute when I was at university. But his name was Reg and it gave me some weird Corrie vibes 😂

Anyway, turns out he was actually called Rich & our mutual friend had a funky accent which I misheard. We've been married for 15 years and he's STILL Reg in my phone contacts.
