So I doubt a text saying, thanks for topping up, I called the number 141 in front imagine my horror when a woman answered?
What is this?
I have no idea what he's topping up from, no other accounts???
And who is it? Why would he top someone else's phone up???

I hope you’re ok@Helpneeded1234567

You will get to the bottom of this. Keep and open mind and believe that ‘anything’ is possible. Good luck

Put the number into Who Called Me (Google the website) and it should tell you if this is a scammer's number because people will have reported it.

Well @Helpneeded1234567 hasn't been back so suspect that there's an innocent explanation and she's somewhat embarrassed.

Hi all, yes this is spot on.
He had a temporary number during a SIM card switch to a new provider, it's all been connected to that. He even called the number while I was there. Thanks for your investment in me!!!
All good, I won't be posting and further updates!

Why did a woman answer if it was an old no longer used SIM card?

paradoxicalfrog · 05/06/2023 14:28

Well,

"Daffodil18 · 03/06/2023 11:24
He’s definitely having an affair!"

is going to be disappointed.

Never ceases to amaze me how certain some MN posters are that they "definitely" know what is happening in the lives of complete strangers.

TUCKINGFYP0 · 05/06/2023 14:40

I had a temporary number / SIM during a recent switch to a new provider. When you call that temporary number you either get number unavailable or you get me. How odd that your husband has a random woman answering his old temp number!

And I only used that number for one month, it cost me £10. I’ve not been putting money onto that account several times over the last 4 months.

PoseyFlump · 05/06/2023 19:39

I'm glad @Helpneeded1234567 sounds placated but that's not my experience of temporary numbers.

That's a little confusing, what happen when he rang the number? Did the random woman answer? How does she fit in?

Good that you're happy but on the face of it his explanation doesn't quite stack up

AJ2009 · 05/06/2023 23:01

Don't old phone number get recycled and given to someone else when you change your number?

I constantly had a man msg me asking how I was (he had my number down as a lady he knew) but once I said she no longer has this number he stopped.
I also had phone calls from companies asking for her. They stopped after a while.

It's possible!

Apparently, they can be…

Could it be he has a second phone that he is topping up?

They do but after a certain length of time, it still doesn't explain how the husband demonstrated the change of number thing

WellPlaced · 06/06/2023 19:48

It doesn’t stack up imo

Don’t just accept what you want to hear @Helpneeded1234567

Aussiegirl88 · 07/06/2023 00:24

OP did you add in the Initial "imagine my horror when a woman answered" bit?

You know to add the dramatics and feed the group? because if you knew that to be a fact you wouldn't of accepted his response as the truth.

Sisisimone · 07/06/2023 08:37

Yeah, he'd really still be topping up £30 a month for a temporary phone that had now been allocated to someone else. Yeah that's just such a simple, plausible explanation 🙄

Sisisimone · 07/06/2023 08:40

He was able to phone her while you were there because they had already been put on warning by you calling her the first time. They knew you were on to them and could come up with a plan. I guess it's easier to just bury your head in the sand and let them carry on though

CountTo10 · 07/06/2023 10:29

The explanation makes no sense. I have recently changed from one plan to another and had a temporary number whilst they ported my old number over. The temporary number is now dead. Any top ups are shown in my current number.

Also you don't explain what happened when husband rang the number? Was it dead (which would support his story somewhat). Did someone answer or did it just ring out suggesting he'd told the person not to answer?

Numbers do get recycled but I'm sure it's not until after a considerable length of time (a year minimum) so not within a couple of months.
