Genuinely curious as using them myself at the moment and struggling with the quality of men on them. Are paid sites better and if so what ones? Thanks in advance. I’m early 40s if that makes a difference. Hear loads of people w hi have met online but don’t say what sites they used.

Met him when I was 36 and he was 38 via Hinge.

Forties - Tinder

Ilovemycatalot · 10/01/2023 19:26

Always thought Tinder was for hook ups obviously not. I’m on pof and it’s dire now think you can only send one message every 24 hrs unless you pay so hardly get any now! Would hinge be suitable for the 4o+ age group?

Match in 2015. He was my second date! Married, house and children. We met in our twenties.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 10/01/2023 19:32

Tinder. Have met the love of my life there. Both late 30's

Match, 2012

Monsteraobliqua · 10/01/2023 19:36

Hinge, mid 30s. Gave a nice feel for people's personalities.

Had a couple of maybes on Match. I think the paid element was a good filter.

Bumble. Free version.

I always thought Tinder was hook ups until I met up with a friend I hadn't spoken to for a while and she told me she was living with someone she'd met on Tinder and was very happy. I was on POF which was really bad compared to Tinder.

Found DP on there nearly 3 years ago now, he was mid 40's and I was late 30's- he's definitely a catch and I feel very lucky (pretty sure he does too.)

You're always going to have attached men on any dating site- luckily I had a good radar for spotting them and called at least 10 out.

Darthwazette · 10/01/2023 19:40

We were mid thirties, met on Match.

is Hinge ok for a 43 yr old woman? I know there’s no age limits but some sites seem better for certain age groups

Tinder 5 years ago

Monsteraobliqua · 10/01/2023 19:41

I think hinge would be suitable for 40 somethings. It's just a bit more personalised than the other swiping sites- you can add little voice notes, videos, answers to ice breaker questions. Seemed somehow a bit more good natured than the others, plenty of people telling jokes and anecdotes, showing little videos of them out and about etc rather than a load of dead eyed fishing pics and 'just ask'.

tillybgeordie · 10/01/2023 19:42

Bumble. Some people here say it's only for passive men but not the case. DH had swapped right on me first. My first message just said "Hi (DH's name)" and waited to see if he replied. He did and the rest is history.

Ilovemycatalot · 10/01/2023 19:42

@Monsteraobliqua thanks for the info might give it a try.

Bumble.

I’d been on Tinder, Bumble, Match, Hinge and POF. Generally saw the same men on all of them!

DP was only on Bumble.

I found POF hideous, as no matching required so got millions of messages from potato men.

Tinder was fine.

I wasn’t keen on Match or Hinge just in terms of platform interface.

Zampa · 10/01/2023 19:49

eHarmony in 2011. I was early 30s, he was late 30s.

At a similar time I had friends meet their now husbands on Match, POF and eHarmony.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 10/01/2023 19:52

Best for me was hinge
it’s quality over quantity compared to Tinder
its free

Oopsiedaisyy · 10/01/2023 19:53

Late 40s, tinder. Found in my age group at least that being able to weed out the undesirables (by not swiping on them) meant my matches tended to fit my criteria more closely than POF (which is basically crowd control) or Match (waste of money)
