Dating a gorgeous man

I’m going on a date with a very, very good looking man. Met him on Bumble. I am not a shallow person and understand that looks are certainly not everything - looks are fleeting. I’m interested in the connection. He seems very keen and has said how he thinks I’m so good looking and lovely, that he will be shy around me - and sorry if he is! He seems genuine and nice. He’s talked about how connection is more important than looks and yes people do comment on how he looks but he doesn’t take it seriously and it doesn’t matter.

Thing is - he is really that good looking! And I’m nervous. I’ve put on weight lately and I don’t feel very good. I’m already convinced he won’t fancy me. And I’ve had a horrible time on online dating lately.

Any words of wisdom?

OP try to put yourself in his shoes. He has already said you are his type. That can be because of your interests, it can also be because he is fed up being targetted by people who are obsessed with their own looks and want him as arm candy.
I met my extremely handsome but utterly eccentric DH at Uni. Apparently I was also a "looker" but neither of us realised we were anything special. That is how other people see you, not how you see yourself. The night we met I was not looking for romance and was not dressed up, not wearing makeup etc. We got together because of many shared interests and odd ball humour and have been married 25 years.

My DGS has been seeing his girlfriend for quite some time. I invited them over and got a big surprise. She's a lovely girl but short and very wide. I thought to myself 'good for you Guy'. He's mad about her. I hope she's the one.

It was a 'big surprise' to you that she's short and not slim? Gosh.

I can't imagine looking a at a grandchild of mine and their partner and thinking ooh she's punching, good on her.

If my DGS had always gone for blonde Amazonians, and in walks an obese short woman… yep, I’d be “surprised” (although like the OP I suspect - no one would know it)

She sounds like she’s been cheated on multiple times and is very very raw and bitter about it.

Do you always talk in such definitive ways and have such a black and white view on issues?

because if so, that’s not a nice PERSONALITY trait 😂

@Feef83 already said my DH is very eccentric and we have a lot in common, Never claimed to be nice...;)

So far, so good.
Having been cheated on by my first husband, I'd hopefully spot the signs.
We're both very loyal people.

zonky yes it’s never happened to me before so quickly - it’s infatuation and I’m loving it ! After years of feeling nothing.

OP there’s nothing wrong with falling in love quickly, DH and I did (never happened to either of us before) and 13 years on we are as happy as ever. We just knew 🤷‍♀️

For the anomalies for whom it works, the falling in "love" quickly, but for the vast majority being infatuated doesn't equal lasting love or relationship
