What would you class "short" as when meeting a potential partner?

I have heard this phrase a lot and for some people short is someone the same height as them, for others it is someone shorter than them. I even heard for some people someone who is three inches taller than them is short.

What would you class as short and what would be a deal breaker for you?

I'd have thought that female uk average is skewed down a couple of inches by women making up the majority of older people. I'd be interested in the average by age group. I'd say anything less than 6ft for a man is short but I'm 5ft9 and the shortest woman in my generation of my family by some way so there's possibly some bias here! The only male relative I have under 6ft2 is my 2 year old son.

I’m 5’11 which makes me taller than the majority of the male population. When I was single, I quickly realised that being heightist narrowed my options to such an extent that I quickly became more open minded.

Finding it very hard to believe average height for a woman is 5’3 as suggested upthread.

I checked the NHS statistics and 5'3" is the average. Scottish women are shorter tha English women, I remember going into NEXT in Aberdeen and half the shop was the 'petite' range and in Glasgow I felt tall walking down Sauchiehall Street at 5'2".

I'd consider under 5 ft 10 as short

I'm 5ft 8 so anyone under 5.10.

I am 5'2 and I dated a man who was 5'4. I was taller than him in heels which felt very strange. I normally go for men over 6 foot. I would class men under 5'8 as short.

I'm 5'10 (stood straight on a good day😆) and where I live I am as tall or taller than most men.
I would say under my height is short for a man because that's how they feel to me....I would date someone my height but definitely no shorter, luckily I am married to my 6'2 husband!
