DH and Glastonbury

DH was invited to Glastonbury this week by a male work colleague and his wife who apparently have one of these 2 bedroom glamping accommodations at the festival. I asked if I could go with him and he said that he wanted to take his mate (will call him G.) I know G and he has recently split with his wife, very upset about it all, a bit lonely and has apparently "always wanted to go to Glastonbury." OK.

Fast forward to tonight, DH announces he is actually travelling down to Glastonbury on Wednesday and will "work from the festival" until the weekend. I went on the website and while it lists 22nd June as a start date (Wednesday) nothing actually starts until Friday.

I am suspicious about all of it, as DH has some form. Can any Glastonbury expert tell me whether people go on the wednesday to "work from the festival?"

I'm not an expert but yes know people who are going that early.

EVHead · 18/06/2022 22:44

What do you mean by “some form”?

HarrietSchulenberg · 18/06/2022 22:44

Well, he'd beat the traffic, that's one way of looking at it.

Xmas1Xmas2Xmas3 · 18/06/2022 22:45

I think the public camping opens on Wednesday morning, but you're right that nothing actually 'happens' until Friday. I'd be surprised he can actually get in, tickets are like gold dust and have to be bought in October, after registering with photo id!

Theimpossiblegirl · 18/06/2022 22:45

He must have workers tickets to be getting in so yes, this is normal. But if you don't trust him or he's being selfish, it's not the point.

BowiesJumper · 18/06/2022 22:45

Although the main stages don’t start until Friday, loads of other stuff is going on from Weds, so he’s not lying about that part. I’d be a bit miffed not to be taken though! How has he got a ticket without being registered? Is it a VIP comp type one?

wishuponastar1988 · 18/06/2022 22:46

Yes my boyfriend will go on the Wednesday and be in the campsite until Sunday. It's the same every time he goes. The main event starts Friday but there will be other stuff on until then

hotblacktea · 18/06/2022 22:46

Suspicious about what exactly ? Do you trust him or not ?

DismantledKing · 18/06/2022 22:46

An ex partner of mine used to work there, and we went on the Wednesday. I suppose it depends on what ‘having form’ means.

EmmaH2022 · 18/06/2022 22:46

Definitely know people who go that early. He could certainly do that and not have to take a day’s leave. Can’t comment on the form though obvs.

KnitOnePearlOneDropOne · 18/06/2022 22:46

Yes people do go that early. More probably this year due to the train strikes causing havoc.

The year we went we arrived early on the Thursday and there were camping fields already full.

BowiesJumper · 18/06/2022 22:47

I say this as someone who has arrived at the crack of dawn on the Weds many times!

Xmas1Xmas2Xmas3 · 18/06/2022 22:49

I like to watch the punters arriving on Wednesday morning. All clean 😁

TwirlyWitch · 18/06/2022 22:50

My best friend is there now (left yesterday) working to set up an area of the festival. They will have a special wristband to show they are crew/staff.

Anniefrenchfry · 18/06/2022 22:51

What do you mean sone form? Do you mean he’s a cheat and you take it?

WalkingOnSonshine · 18/06/2022 22:52

I’ve worked on it previously and would always get there for the Monday, with a lot of punters arriving on the Wednesday.

ZaraSizeMedium · 18/06/2022 22:57

How has he managed to get tickets? He was invited just this week and was able to register and get 2 tickets… This week?

That sounds unlikely.

Going on the Wednesday is about the only believable bit tbh.

Sofasogood1 · 18/06/2022 23:03

Agree with pp. You can't just get a ticket this late in the day... That's suspicious, not the going on Wednesday bit

chuffoff · 18/06/2022 23:05

I always went on the Wednesday, just because the music doesn't properly start until Friday doesn't mean there's nothing to do. The atmosphere will be in full swing and you could go the whole festival without watching anything on the main stages as there's just so much going on. Your lucky DH, I'd be more cross about him not taking you tbh, especially glamping!

Bobthecatnapper · 18/06/2022 23:05

Sorry I mean he has form for not always being where he says he is going to be.

His colleague bought tickets ages ago and the people they were going with dropped out...

I think maybe in this particular scenario I am being paranoid

We always go on Wednesday and there's loads going on. Lot's of bars, music, dancing to be had. It's really nice to have 2 days hanging out with mates, exploring and finding your bearings before the big party begins. Enjoy!

MrsRyan15 · 18/06/2022 23:06

Wednesday morning is the busiest time to arrive, the car parks open on Tuesday afternoon to make sure the roads don't get blocked up by the thousands of people wanting to be there when the gates open at 8am on Wednesday.

And while the main stages don't start until Friday there is loads going on before then.

Not sure about how much work would be getting done though 🤔

spotcheck · 18/06/2022 23:07

'Form' for what?

SingleWhiteEmail · 18/06/2022 23:08

I don’t think tix are transferable are they as you have to submit a photo when booking?

Bellie99 · 18/06/2022 23:09

Gates actually open Tuesday night.
However tickets are printed with photos on.
