DH and Glastonbury

Bobthecatnapper · 18/06/2022 22:43

DH was invited to Glastonbury this week by a male work colleague and his wife who apparently have one of these 2 bedroom glamping accommodations at the festival. I asked if I could go with him and he said that he wanted to take his mate (will call him G.) I know G and he has recently split with his wife, very upset about it all, a bit lonely and has apparently "always wanted to go to Glastonbury." OK.

Fast forward to tonight, DH announces he is actually travelling down to Glastonbury on Wednesday and will "work from the festival" until the weekend. I went on the website and while it lists 22nd June as a start date (Wednesday) nothing actually starts until Friday.

I am suspicious about all of it, as DH has some form. Can any Glastonbury expert tell me whether people go on the wednesday to "work from the festival?"

He won’t get in without a ticket. Dh got his in 2019 for the 2020 festival and they’ve carried over since then due to covid. Im sure there were a few people who gave there’s up and they resold some but you can’t sell tickets on as they have photo ID. I’d be more suspicious about that. But you can travel down on the Wednesday to get a good spot.

PuppyMonkey · 19/06/2022 08:25

He has form for not being where he says he’s going to be? Confused How weird.

Anyway, I’ve been to Glastonbury as a guest of an exhibitor and we definitely turned up on the Wednesday night. The music doesn’t start till Friday but the music is about 10 per cent of the stuff going on there.

balalake · 19/06/2022 08:31

I doubt he is going to Glastonbury.

Can you contact G on some spurious pretext. Ask him how he is, he'll tell you if he is going.

Phone and 4G signal for the duration of the festival is a nightmare so if he’s planning to use his own data to run his laptop he will be disappointed. My experience is that even trying to text or message each other on-site was a pain as texts didn’t arrive for hours.

Lots of posters clearly don’t know about the ways of getting into the festival that don’t involve public tickets; yes, they are absolutely non-transferable but it doesn’t sound like he’s got one of those.

They've got 5G masts on site this year.

Onlinemum22 · 19/06/2022 08:40

You have to register with photos the October before Glastonbury. The latest you could get the resale tickets was at the end of March.
Tickets have the name and photo you registered in the previous October and you need to present ID along with the ticket on arrival. Normal tickets are non transferable... they are also non refundable past May.

The only believable bit about the story is that you normally arrive Wed and leave the following Mon

Ourlady · 19/06/2022 08:44

He’s lying and deep down you know it.

HappypusSadpus · 19/06/2022 08:46

Tickets arent transferrable are they?

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/06/2022 08:51

People do go down on Wednesday, but it's to start the party, not work.

lightisnotwhite · 19/06/2022 08:54

Can’t you just ask him what tickets he has and what he’s actually planning on doing?. Then you’d have a better idea if it’s bollocks or he just fancies a few nights in a yurt getting hammered with his mates. I’d say if the others aren’t in the business he won’t be getting into the festival itself

Brefugee · 19/06/2022 08:54

not sure about Glastonbury but in the nearest German equivalent people go down on Wednesday morning when the campsites open.

If they work or not? that's up to them, but if your DHs company is ok with that, why not? He is doing a kind thing for a friend who needs a bit of support. But quid pro quo, you get to have 5 or 6 days to do what you like too.

buttersbottom · 19/06/2022 08:58

Why would anyone want to go to Glastonbury (the festival not the town)? I just don't understand it.

I like music as much as the next person but these festivals just seem hellish to me. I used to travel through Somerset and see people caked in mud in the motorway services, obviously from the festival. Then there's the horrors of camping and the repulsive toilet situation and inevitable queues.

Honestly, I think you've dodged a bullet there.

Herejustforthisone · 19/06/2022 08:59

He sounds like a prick. A lying one. I couldn’t live like you’re having to.

3luckystars · 19/06/2022 09:03

you know what’s going on here.

the two lads are heading there with ‘the boys are back in town’ by Thin Lizzy playing in their heads.

except one of them is married to you. You know deep down that this is all wrong.

good luck x

vera99 · 19/06/2022 09:04

I'm going tomorrow as a veteran recycler lovely to glide in and set up camp in Tom's Field up by the farm. People sleep in their cars on Tuesday night and the queues are horrendous when they open the gates on Wednesday morning. (humble brag) and we leave on Tuesday. Of the 240,000 attendees, 80,000 are volunteers and staff and there is a wonderful community has developed over the years. Plenty of stuff going on Wednesday as well.

CallOnMe · 19/06/2022 09:10

I couldn’t cope being in a relationship and my partner not being able to go away for a few nights without me worrying he’s not where he said he’s going to be - how stressful.

If he has form then why are you still with this liar?

If he send you photos are you then going to be able to trust him?

FWIW I think he’s going to go as surely if he’s lying he’d have just said he’s staying at his mates for a couple of nights as he’ll have to lie more if he says he went to a festival - unless he’s not that smart.

I last posted at 23.43 before bed somebody at 1.15 implying I Have disappeared! I was asleep!

just woke up now briefly.

I think the test will be if he sends me photos. Is there enough WiFi / 4G to do that?

agree his behaviour in general is suspicious aside from tickets, his choice of G over me (which happens frequently) is grating

Unless its VIP/hospitality/staff passes he is lying again. Liars and philanderers don't change their habits.

Better men are available.

whatwasyournamesorry · 19/06/2022 09:14

Nothing suspicious
Totally normal to go on Wednesday

diddl · 19/06/2022 09:15

He lies & therefore you don't trust him.

What's the point?

SoloIVFer · 19/06/2022 09:17

@Bobthecatnapper he is going to Glastonbury. Its been planned with G for ages. He won't be working from the festival, it's impossible. His laptop will get stolen. He just wants to go to Glastonbury with his friend and not you and his story is a cover to try and protect your feelings. I've been to Glastonbury as a punter and to work. His story is completely impossible. The ticket holder would have to present ID. No ID, no entry. There is no other way. If he gets in, he booked the tickets. The dishonesty would bother me. I have been I'm EXACTLY this position before with my partner who booked tickets to go with his friend and tried to sell me a similar story. Needless to say we aren't together anymore. I'd be saying he either needs to be honest about the circumstances around him coming across tickets or he can join G in his singles club full time. Don't be a doormat!!

Honestly, this isn’t true. I have been to Glastonbury 13 times and never once got a ticket in October or the april resale. I don’t think it is helpful to give OP false info when you don’t have the full story.

Lovemusic33 · 19/06/2022 09:21

I would be suspicious about being asked to go last minute as I thought tickets had photo ID and were issued a long time ago, saying that I have heard that they don’t really inspect each ticket or the photos, rarely ask for ID so it’s probably easy to get in using someone else’s photo/name? Bit of a risk though. He could be telling the truth but if he has form then he could be lying.

Well what i mean is there are absolutely
ways of getting legit tickets right before the festival starts if you have any links to the music or Media industries

LoudingVoice · 19/06/2022 08:13

Just having glamping tickets doesn’t mean they’ve got crew/hospitality tickets - anyone can book glamping.

Unless his mates are getting those kind of passes it’s still suspicious and surely then he’d have said that’s how he’d got the ticket?

I know that. I didn’t say they did, however hospitality tickets can also involve glamping style tipis/bell tents so there could be some confusion as to the type of ticket.

FlosCampi · 19/06/2022 09:25

Lies are often over-complicated and this one is. Why did the couple who has dropped out have twin beds? Why did your other half pick newly-single lad G over you? Surely the friends who made the offer would have expected and preferred another couple rather than that?

It reminds me of those lies when a DP is meeting another woman ( not suggesting OW here necessarily) where their story changes from " a load of us from work going out in the city" to "a couple of friends XYZ including OW going to a pub for food", changing when questioned to "Actually XYZ couldn't make it, so OW and I had dinner in a rose-strewn swan boat".

ememem84 · 19/06/2022 09:26

My thinking is that he bought tickets when they went on sale and the “so and so has dropped out” is a story he’s telling you.

whenever I’ve been to Glastonbury we’ve always got there on the Wednesday. We have to fly in so while spendy to go (flights tickets etc) it made sense to go for as long as we could.

no way would I be working there. I’d get too distracted!
