DH and Glastonbury

DH was invited to Glastonbury this week by a male work colleague and his wife who apparently have one of these 2 bedroom glamping accommodations at the festival. I asked if I could go with him and he said that he wanted to take his mate (will call him G.) I know G and he has recently split with his wife, very upset about it all, a bit lonely and has apparently "always wanted to go to Glastonbury." OK.

Fast forward to tonight, DH announces he is actually travelling down to Glastonbury on Wednesday and will "work from the festival" until the weekend. I went on the website and while it lists 22nd June as a start date (Wednesday) nothing actually starts until Friday.

I am suspicious about all of it, as DH has some form. Can any Glastonbury expert tell me whether people go on the wednesday to "work from the festival?"

The 6 music coverage starts on Wednesday

Tickets for Glastonbury Festival are personalised with a photo of the ticket holder and cannot be transferred to another recipient.

Any tickets we suspect are being offered for sale will be cancelled and admission to the Festival refused.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 18/06/2022 23:11

I thought tickets weren’t transferable these days? You book with your name and have to prove it’s you? That would make me suspicious, him and his friend suddenly getting tickets.

This is weird and your spider senses are telling you so.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 18/06/2022 23:22

Cross posts with ZaraSizeMedium both thinking the same thing!

Sofasogood1 · 18/06/2022 23:25

You can't just transfer a ticket - to prevent touts. Is that how you spell tout??

SmallPrawnEnergy · 18/06/2022 23:25

Well, you don’t need workers tickets to get in early as a PP said. Camping opens on Wednesday morning but I don’t know anyone who goes to work (unless work is lots of booze and drugs).

And as others have pointed out, tickets aren’t transferable. Smells like a rat op

dreamingbohemian · 18/06/2022 23:26

Working from Glastonbury. Yeah right.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 18/06/2022 23:27

My friend is going on Wednesday but she won't be working.

Where has he gone in the past when he's lied to you?

boredwithfoodprob · 18/06/2022 23:27

I went to Glastonbury for about 8 years running in the 90s and early 00s - we always went on a Wednesday as although nothing official was happening there was still a “vibe” and fun stuff happening. Not sure I would’ve got much work done though 😂😬

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/06/2022 23:28

You can’t transfer tickets so that bit sounds dodgy as fuck.

ZaraSizeMedium · 18/06/2022 23:28

I think OP means “working from Glastonbury” as in taking his laptop and working from there instead of from home. Rather than working as a worker at Glastonbury.

But either way it’s bullshit, because tickets aren’t transferable and there’s no way he got given a ticket this week.

AnotherDelphinium · 18/06/2022 23:29

No, gates will open Wednesday morning, same as every year.

Yes, it’s completely possibly, the vast majority arrive on Wednesday. Normally about 70% camping space is occupied by the end of Wednesday, and yes, there’s so much to do on site.

However, unless these are VIP tickets or worker tickets, they’d be non-transferable, and let’s be honest, who just “decides not to go” …

Jalepenojello · 18/06/2022 23:31

It’s super common to go on the Wednesday., there’s loads going on. If you don’t trust your partner just say so and have a conversation with them.

LemonSwan · 18/06/2022 23:32

If this is a general punter ticket of people who bought it to attend and enjoy then yes most arrive Wednesday; and no tickets are not transferable. He will not get in unless he looks uncannily similar to the original ticket holder.

EachandEveryone · 18/06/2022 23:35

I will be travelling there on Wednesday, if he has another persons ticket let’s hope he has the appropriate ID I’ve seen people get turned away at the gate.

GreenManalishi · 18/06/2022 23:36

The ticket tale sounds highly unlikely. I'm not sure what he does for work but the phone coverage be patchy at best, plus I'm not sure how much work anyone ever got done with their freshly divorced mate from a yurt at Glastonbury.

Eightieskidninetiesteen · 18/06/2022 23:40

I’d be really pissed off not to be going!

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 18/06/2022 23:41

You are right to be suspicious!

Bobthecatnapper · 18/06/2022 23:43

I think his colleague booked the two bedroom yurt with his own ID ages ago. The couple they were expecting to fill the other bedroom (twin room) have pulled out, so they just gave the spare room to DH and G. Do you think that sounds feasible?

sorry if this sounds crazy or old fashioned but is Glastonbury a bit of a meat market then?

OP posts:
Sofasogood1 · 18/06/2022 23:45

No, not feasible. You still need a ticket on top of the yurt

EachandEveryone · 18/06/2022 23:46

No if meat market implies picking up
joint it’s nothing like that at all. At all. However, he hasn’t got a ticket. I’m guessing he’s got them in the resales and just darent tell you?

Sofasogood1 · 18/06/2022 23:46

And yeah, you can't work from Glastonbury. He's either lying or stupid!

7eleven · 18/06/2022 23:48

Tickets definitely cannot be transferred.

Washyourfaceinmysink · 18/06/2022 23:50

If it’s a normal ticket, as others have said, it’s not transferable. However, if he has a hospitality ticket, then that is something that can be done more last minute (I have one. - my name was only assigned to the ticket a couple of weeks ago).
Wednesday arrival is normal - most people I know arrive then.
