My girlfriends wants money after two months

That is really. I have been seeing this woman for a couple of months. We have seen each other every couple of weeks since January and everything is fantastic. We talk almost every day. She is beautiful, interesting and I really like her. I could see a future for us after being single for a long time. The only problem is that she just told me she needs 500 pounds a month to pay her rent each month. She is not from the UK so she said in her country it is normal for a boyfriend to pay for things for his girlfriend. Is she taking me for a ride? I can afford the 500 pounds.

Some younger women do this to finance their way through uni. The older guy has an exclusive relationship with an attractive young woman (punching way above his norm) and the young women gets through uni with less debts and also less risks then prostitution

Lurking9to5 · 17/03/2022 08:30

@MzHz true, I l was scammed out of something more valuable than money, TIME. i Lost 7 years to being the unpaid slave of a man I wasn't even married to. It happens. i WALked away with a rucksack and two dependents i was then 100% responsible for raising. I saw sense and got out but it unleashed a rage in him. I coped. We all coped. Their dad lives in a mansion on his own feeling angry. I'll never get those 7 years back but surely I can be sympathetic to people who've just been scammed.

ilovebrie8 · 17/03/2022 08:33

OP no don’t do this, you are bring scammed. I’d cut ties now. £500!! Just say your goodbyes now for the sake of your sanity and your wallet...

gogohm · 17/03/2022 08:35

Red flag, leave straight away. The internet is littered with stories of romance fraud.

I'm 2 years in and live with dp and would never ask him for money!

Squeezyhug · 17/03/2022 08:46

You sound lovely OP.
I hope you find someone who wants to be with you for who you are, not your wallet.Flowers

You are not naive otherwise you wouldn’t have come to MN for advice.

Pennox · 17/03/2022 08:56

Of course this women is a prostitute. She asked the OP for money in exchange for continuing a sexual relationship. Thats the definition. Dress it up as escort or sugar baby or whatever it is but its all the same thing. Money for sex. And this woman was likely traficked originally and probably still being coerced to make money in this manner to hand over to a man somewhere. The fact she didnt reply as soon as he said no tells the OP exactly what he needed to know. If he had paid up and seen her at the same rate, say twice a month, he would have been paying £250 per shag which is way more than the going rate to rent a prostitute off a website. Even once a week at £110 is at the higher end. This is no different. The organised gangs that control it have just got cleverer at diversifying their portfolio for different markets - in this case older men who arent seedy enough to use traditional prostitutes.

Call it what it is. Prostitution. Buying women for sex. Paying gangsters to rent a womans body. You sound too principled for this OP. You want a nice normal relationship by the sounds of it. Wise up though, you wont find it with a woman decades younger than you. That ship has sailed unless you are prepared to pay into a system that abuses and harms all women, not just the one you met.

It might or might not be normal in her country where it's entirely possible men might have much greater earning potential than women but if it is I doubt it kicks in after 8 or 9 weeks. In the U.K. it isn't normal because it isn't unusually economically necessary.

She is absolutely mugging you off here. If you start paying £500 she will squeeze you for more. Just tell her that isn't how relationships work here.

If you are better off than her then absolutely pay for meals out, cinema tickets, treats etc but don't be conned into giving her cash!

oakleaffy · 17/03/2022 08:59

@gfwantsmoney
Please say no.

If she’s this greedy and materialistic this early on, it absolutely does not auger well for the future.

My Brother met a Russian woman,we were horrified, as so many Romance scams come from there, but Irena ( Not her real name) has never once asked for money.

A woman who cared for you , rather than your wallet wouldn’t.

oakleaffy · 17/03/2022 09:03

@gfwantsmoney

Thanks for all the replies. I knew it. I just wanted external confirmation. It's a shame.
There will be other women who will not be after money.

Sounds like you are wise enough to feel it isn’t “Right” as well, otherwise you’d not have posted here.

shssandhr · 17/03/2022 09:05

She's a scammer and she'll be doing this with either several men or a series of men, one after the other. If she tries it on with several some are bound to fall for it and she has a nice little earner.

peridito · 17/03/2022 09:07

So sorry you've met this chancer ,better relationships to come I hope
Flowers

HomeHomeInTheRange · 17/03/2022 09:12

This must be very disappointing for you OP.

But 6 dates is way too soon to think of any kind of mutual financial support or commitment, or even an expensive birthday present! It might not be a scam as such, but she might be a simple gold digger with a brazen attitude.

She might also have picked up on your eagerness. You said in your OP I could see a future for us after being single for a long time . Which is quite soon to be thinking that way, after 6 dates. If she perceived you to be either smitten or desperate she may have chances her gold digging luck.

But at best she is greedy, exploitative, manipulative.

It’s good you asked advice. My advice would be see any future relationships as ‘let’s see’ for at least the first six months.

Wheresthebeach · 17/03/2022 09:15

Sorry this has happened to you OP.

Romance scammers are very good at what they do.

Good you've realised now that it's a scam and to block and move on with your life.

ChickenStripper · 17/03/2022 09:17

I can't believe any man in this day and age would think that this would be anything other than a scam.

Beautiful3 · 17/03/2022 09:18

No that's not normal at all, and I have girl friends from Europe. She's scamming you. Say no and see what happens. If she dumps you then she was only after the money. You will meet someone else.

Elieza · 17/03/2022 09:20

Sorry this happened as it would be hurtful. At least you know that it’s over and she wasn’t who she pretended fed to be. Others will have been there with these chancer lazy women before you. Others will be there after you. You are not alone. But youve done the right thing. I hope you used good contraception or she could be pregnant. Fingers crossed not.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/03/2022 09:21

That’s a horrible way to treat you op, if that’s how it is in her country she’s better off going back there isn’t she?

There’s 12 years between dh and I but I don’t sponge off him.

Elieza · 17/03/2022 09:21

PS to those of you who are still offering advice to dump her, THE OP HAS DUMPED HER read the thread.

OfstedOffred · 17/03/2022 09:21

I thought with the rents so high in the UK, it could be sociably acceptable these days.

Why? Young women often earn as much/more than men. It's generally only after women start having children that the gender pay gap opens up. That rent is as hard for a man to pay as a woman.

You are 100% being fleeced. There's another word for someone you see every 2 weeks and pay £250 a time. Prostitute.

Frollop · 17/03/2022 09:22

I think this woman was going to scam OP.

Some women will look to settle with a man who is much older and wealthy... Penny Lancaster 51 and Rod Stewart 77. People don't seem to bat an eyelid at news articles of the two and their age .. maybe because they have been together for a long time but what we can be sure of is when he dies she will not be looking for a 77 year old man unless he's rich!
Many wealthy men look for a women young enough to be their daughter.. it's a transaction between both. They want a attractive young woman on their arm and the woman wants a lifestyle...

NellieEllie · 17/03/2022 09:22

“I can afford the £500”.
Mmm, Maybe that is why she is with you?

goodnightgrumble · 17/03/2022 09:26

You sound very sensible OP. You are bound to be disappointed but good on you for asking for advice.

WilsonMilson · 17/03/2022 09:30

This actually sounds like a scam. Who knows how many guys she’s talking into giving her £500 a month!

SpikeySmooth · 17/03/2022 09:36

It's gutting, isn't it, to discover this woman's ulterior motive. Glad OP has seen the light. I'd put it down to experience, block her and try to move on.

Frollop · 17/03/2022 09:37

She could easily be making a few thousand a month. People can fall for these scams as they meet the person in real life and think they are in a relationship.
People can be so cruel, I've heard of this type of scam before.
