Dating someone shorter than you?

oopsmoment · 13/02/2022 15:01

All my ex's have mostly been 5'11 to over 6ft (I'm 5'8) I've just started dating someone and he's reasonable looking but he's only about my height, maybe slightly shorter. If I wear boots with slight heels I'm definitely taller than him.
Would this give you the ick? Or not bother you?
Any of you have DPs/DHs shorter than you?
Thank you.

6ft 1 female here hate my height and the way society makes me feel about it.

TheCatterall · 17/02/2022 23:55

Meh. I don’t let it bother me. I’m 6’ so often same height or taller than blokes bare foot - and in 4” heels… well. Wink

I used to get picked on mercilessly at school and into my mid 20s for my height by men - obviously any tall woman who wears heels is a bloke in drag. Lovely blokes…

CounsellorTroi · 18/02/2022 00:27

I’m 5ft 2 and I actually don’t like being towered over, and I prefer to be able to make eye contact without getting a crick in my neck.

Derelicthome · 18/02/2022 06:11

@BillMasen
That wasn’t what I had meant to do. But you’re right and I’m really sorry.

LadyNell · 18/02/2022 07:02

I'm 6ft so probably 6'2 in heels, I would want someone as tall or taller than myself really which kind of narrows down the choice

LadyNell · 18/02/2022 07:20

Thecaterall.......I agree I'm 6ft barefoot, a few inches taller if I wear heels I have actually been asked if I'm a transvestite before.....by a man of course.

I do find short men are often intimidated by taller women

LadyNell · 18/02/2022 07:22

Like you I was picked on mercilessly at school also. Have had a fair amount of nasty comments mainly from short men I have to say. I call it 'little man syndrome'

Also just to add, there actually are studies which say that short men are more likely to be aggressive and angry.[/quote]
That’s probably down to the way they are perceived.

TerraNovaTwo · 18/02/2022 08:42

5ft 7 upwards is fine. I'm 5ft10.

Badbaddog · 18/02/2022 10:24

My DD is 6’. If a man asked her if she was a transvestite she would fell him with a mighty paw (possibly verbally rather than physically, but she is exceptionally strong so who knows). It’s a term laden with prejudice whatever gender you identify with.

Another DD speculates that women get blinded by a man’s height to their fuckwittery or boringness. ‘Is he a great boyfriend, or is he just tall?’. From my experience I do think some tall men rest on their laurels a bit, and become a bit entitled in their thinking about women, just expecting us to fall at their feet.

Whatever. We want what we want I guess.

Moglie · 18/02/2022 11:16

5’6” was the shortest. Didn’t bother me he was more or less the same height but he was thinner so that was more an issue for me which is a bit shallow of me.

I don't know about intimidated, but they are often very resentful of a woman having the thing they want.

Why are you outsourcing your thinking about what you find attractive to other people?

Why on earth would it matter if it gave others 'the ick'? Why would it matter if it bothered other women in their relationshipss? How would that affect your relationship? Do you not know what you do and don't find attractive??

It comes across like you want to have permission to be attracted to him, and if other women say 'GOD NO!!!' that this will sway you in not liking him. If that's the case then I feel a bit sorry for him.

RantyAunty · 18/02/2022 13:50

It only matters if you like him, not what anyone else thinks.

The 2 I had children with were on the short side. Short sexy Italians.

Most recent was 6'4" and skinny.

Callcat · 18/02/2022 13:58

I'm 5''8, dates guys the same height, shorter and a tiny bit taller. Met DP who is 6''4 and I love it! He can pick me up like I'm tiny and it's so nice to be properly enveloped in a hug. I'm converted!

LadyNell · 18/02/2022 18:39

Babbadog I'm no shrinking violet myself, I told I'd probably got a bigger cock than his....shut him right up

LadyNell · 18/02/2022 18:39

I told him
