The Rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. Know your worth.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future 14. OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy.

Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item

@InABetterPlaceNow

Spotify? Works on both platforms.

If you were chatting on Zoom it has a share music (audio) option.

But really, one of you could have just put some music on in the background, no need to get too technical.

(I'm still in bed)

InABetterPlaceNow · 25/12/2021 10:59

We did think about Zoom - could try that next time, thank you!

He has very little in the way of extra electronics in his bedroom - tried to hook up his Bluetooth speaker to his phone but didn't work properly while on video call!

Discord worked to an extent as the server he's on has a music streaming bot but his friend gate crashed 😂

Merry Christmas all! I've had a lovely morning with my dc and now they've left with their dad and it's just me and the cat Xmas Smile - exh spent the morning here too and it's always good to get a reminder as to why we divorced...! I'm feeling very loved by my friends who've gone to the trouble of getting me gifts, knowing I'd be alone. Who knows, maybe next year I'll be sharing it with someone special, but I'm happy with my life either way.

Now for a beach walk I think Xmas Grin

@InABetterPlaceNow Spotify do a thing where you both share the controls so whatever you stream, streams at their end and vice versa.

Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy the break (be it from work or from swiping!). Lumps of coal to Messrs WG, Cricket and Gambit.

Have fun everyone.

Ha ha, @HairyArsedMan! Love it! ❤️

VanGoghsDog · 25/12/2021 16:37

I'm enjoying it - I've broken my habit of not drinking alone and had two glasses of a very nice Merlot (my dad always said you can't beat a Chilian Merlot, and he was good with pensions, but he talked a lot of shit too!). And I made a stunning roast though the potatoes didn't need the hour and a half the MN thread assured me they would!

I bought myself two new oven pans a few weeks ago and I adore them. These:

www.interismo.co.uk/riess/large-casserole-pan

Heartily recommend them, something about how they transfer heat seems very efficient.

I made a fabulous bread sauce. I bought gravy but only as a fallback so I added it to the meat juices etc and together made a very nice gravy. Did parsnips and carrots in honey. And I even put the dw after the main prep so I didn't ng have much to do now.
Chicken was subtly lemony and garlicky.

Bought chocolate trifle for pudding ......later!

I've had a few calls with various people and nice text exchanges.

Opened four presents.

Watching the Snowman and Snow Dog on mute with my Spotify playlist in the background.

OnwardsEverStridingOnwards · 25/12/2021 16:38

I'm currently reading my Christmas present copy of 'The Hollow Man' by Oliver Harris and watching YouTube in the background ❤️

I've just sorted through my jewellery as I bought myself a new Stackers jewellery box earlier in the week. I'm not sure on it but have thrown the box out so will have to get used to it but it's really nice being able to see all my earrings and I found a load of necklaces that I used to wear to work when people actually made an effort in those good old days pre-covid.

Haha thanks @HairyArsedMan

Caramelblonde · 25/12/2021 17:16

Misty9 · 25/12/2021 17:37

Hope everyone's having a lovely day. I enjoyed a very bracing beach walk and now also @VanGoghsDog unusually drinking at home and the mulled wine is a bit too drinkable!

Heartbeats0708 · 25/12/2021 18:27

How's everyone doing? I had a bit of a moment this morning and I'd like to say it passed quickly but it didn't. I just felt really flat and like I don't actually enjoy Christmas? Everyone talks about how magical it is with young DC but I wasn't feeling that at all. I'm quite relieved it's all almost over to be honest.

Isitreallyme1277 · 25/12/2021 18:38

@Heartbeats0708 I know the feeling, I've sat here thinking the same. I've discovered ITV have put the Emmerdale and Corrie Christmas episodes on ITV hub so am currently watching them. I can't wait for it to be over, in fact I can't wait for Monday when the gym is open again, the tree will be down and my flat will be back to being clean and uncluttered again.

Misty9 · 25/12/2021 18:39

@FabulousMrFifty can you guess? Xmas Grin

@Heartbeats0708 sending a hug. It's a strange day I think. I was driving back from the coast seeing the lit up houses and imagining all the big family christmasses happening - but then reminded myself that there are probably more people than we think who are alone or in situations they don't like today. I can also recommend drinking mulled wine for a warm and fuzzy feeling Wine can you put something fun on the TV and ignore the dc for a bit?

OnwardsEverStridingOnwards · 25/12/2021 18:40

@Heartbeats0708 ❤️❤️❤️

StartingAgain6369 · 25/12/2021 18:42

Hello 👋

@Heartbeats0708 I know exactly what you are saying, hit me this afternoon, I went outside and pottered around for a bit but I do realise it's tough with a youngster

Managed a walk this morning, really busy with joggers and people walking, I did get a nice smile from a jogger but I it was only because I got out of her way

Currently crashed out on the sofa eating rubbish and watching rubbish on the TV

OnwardsEverStridingOnwards · 25/12/2021 18:44

I've just blocked Mr Gambit and deleted his number 😘

Thank you @PurpleStripyScarf 😘

PurpleStripyScarf · 25/12/2021 18:49

Hugs to the rest of you who are struggling.

Nice Christmas here with my parents, siblings and my DC. A bit of swiping in the last few days means I've got a couple of prospects of date zeros in the new year. And nice (non-romantic) exchanges of messages from my two ex-irons from this year and various other friends. So on balance feeling ok about things. Feeling a mixture of apprehensive and optimistic about 2022.
