The Rules:

 1. The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.
 2. Develop a thick skin.
 3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
 4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
 5. Trust your gut instinct.
 6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
 7. Know your worth.
 8. If it's not fun, stop.
 9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future 14. OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy.

Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item

@Shayelle2009 I have got two really useless dogs who thought me screaming was an invitation to play fight with me. Hopeless 🤣🤣🤣

BelladiMamma · 22/11/2021 09:20

@Isitreallyme177 could be good if you ever have to head back into the office for work?

PurpleStripyScarf · 22/11/2021 09:27

@BelladiMamma

Just heard from 3rd friend in recent times who's moving into my local town because they've split. There's definitely something about the south coast and this particular city that attracts recently divorced guys. So I now have 3 unattached males - not my type, just friends - who live locally. Not sure where the single females go?

The mice have found another way into the kitchen and I had to chase one out of the house this morning. It was way too cute to kill.

Well, this is important information. Aside from not being your type, are all these newly single men... attractive? Eligible? Decent? Self-sufficient? Send us details and we'll get our removals vans booked.
Isitreallyme177 · 22/11/2021 09:31

@BelladiMamma yes you're right it would give her company during the day. I don't think she likes being on her own, she looks so sad and lost bless her.

@Shayelle2009 thank you it's the same place I got her and her sister from too.

BelladiMamma · 22/11/2021 09:42

@PurpleStripyScarf that's what I thought!! The threadies need to know this vital info!

All 3 are well educated, financially self sufficient and decent blokes. They're very much 'get the papers on the Sunday and check out which independent foreign language films to watch during the week, go for a swim and a nice meal, decent cooks, grown up children' type guys. One of them was a flatmate of mine. Out of long marriages in which I think they'd become the 'decent but unexciting partner / just grown apart'. All of them nice looking in a floppy haired ex public school way. So, might not be your type either but they're good blokes!!

Eesha · 22/11/2021 09:46

@BelladiMamma floppy haired Public school is right up my street so send them my way if my date doesn't work out. That said, I'm genuinely excited for the 1st time in months. AND WILL DO MY HAIR AGAIN.

BelladiMamma · 22/11/2021 09:53

@Eesha am thinking I need to organise a south coast singles meet!!

Isitreallyme177 · 22/11/2021 09:54

@BelladiMamma As an ex public prison like boarding school girl floppy haired ex public school boys are kind of up my street and kindred spirits. If they like Rugby even better.

SpringlikeBunk · 22/11/2021 09:55

lol @BelladiMamma bring some to the February meet!

BelladiMamma · 22/11/2021 10:27

@SpringlikeBunk

lol *@BelladiMamma* bring some to the February meet!
Is this permitted if they're not threadies?! Honestly I'd love to 🤣🤣🤣 it could be a really efficient way to help them out 😁😁😁

You're quite nearby aren't you ...? Maybe me you and @Shayelle2009 need to have a meet up and I can invite them too 😁

Bangheadhere40 · 22/11/2021 10:34

Wish I lived nearer you all - would love to come to the meet, but it's a little far for me :-(

Liking the cat chat - I never used to be a cat person but since getting my Kitty I think they are amazing.

My shop guy was a bit of a flop, Mr FlopShop I'll call him, didn't seem particularly receptive, oh well!

Not sure I can bring myself to swipe today - it's potato city at the moment.

Isitreallyme177 · 22/11/2021 11:01

@BelladiMamma always up for meeting new people especially now😉😬 and yes I believe I am nearby.

dancemom · 22/11/2021 11:07

Well done @Bangheadhere40 for at least messaging him

SpringlikeBunk · 22/11/2021 11:13

Oh very good point @BelladiMamma

Maybe a "separate private singles meet for meeting" would be better for anyone up for that.

As I guess the threadies meet might be more us chatting about weird Mumsnet stuff so would freak them out Grin with our talk of irons and "MrX's"!

"the first rule of the thread is you don't talk about the thread" etc

@Isitreallyme177 go for it, cool night out either way

BelladiMamma · 22/11/2021 11:18

Ok @Shayelle2009 and @Isitreallyme177 one for the new year? Given Covid status and my travel plans? Xx

BelladiMamma · 22/11/2021 11:18

Seems like lots of breakups are happening at the moment, guess it's the time of year.
Bangheadhere40 · 22/11/2021 11:36

I might have spoken too soon about Mr Shop, he's got in touch today offering advice about my next purchase. He's offered to help me find something suitable 😀

I can't seem to turn the conversation round though from this shop talk. God...I'm pathetic 🤣

Do you know if he's single, have you been able to check that?
BelladiMamma · 22/11/2021 11:41

@Bluecrescent yes and also end of lockdown I guess?

Bangheadhere40 · 22/11/2021 11:43

@BelladiMamma - I'm pretty sure he is single, when we had a chat he said his last g/f was a few years ago and she sadly passed away :-( he was asking what my xmas plans were etc

His FB profile also says single, so I'm pretty certain he is single.

Bluecrescent · 22/11/2021 11:44
@Bluecrescent yes and also end of lockdown I guess?
Yes definitely! I was quite smug during lockdown as my relationship survived but I didn't anticipate end of lockdown breakups which I fell victim to lol!

Hope everyone is well and having a good day :)

I've kept my eHarmony profile hidden because it's just soo awful on there. I'm thinking of trying OkCupid next - anyone got any thoughts/experiences on that one?

Isitreallyme177 · 22/11/2021 12:06

Apparently I've gone from having nothing in my diary to actually being busy in December, I think it's time I put things in my diary and didn't just file them away in my head. I was trying to sort a night out, out this morning only to remember I am going to the panto and that is yet another Saturday gone in December. Which leaves me with 2 free Saturdays until Christmas(one of which is before payday so is out). Sometimes I long for the days of good old Tier4 lockdowns.

@BelladiMamma sounds good. Definitely up for that.

BelladiMamma · 22/11/2021 12:08

I have a new iron that's moved from Feeld to WhatsApp.

He's called MrBeau and at the moment I'm classing him as utterly divine and gorgeous. Shared culture too!! Can speak in my other mother tongue to him. So exciting.

Will probably fizzle out by the time I'm out of isolation.
