Thread 4. Wow. Thank you for putting up with my ramblings thus far, and for all the support - I couldn't have done it without you all.

Previous thread here

I can confirm he has purchased a masher. He sent me a picture of it and asked if it was alright Confused

Bombay original is nice, if you have a co-op nearby their own irresistible gin is really nice too.

I don't see the point of Fever Tree tonic, their ginger beer though, that's a game changer.

Pashazade · 17/03/2021 08:01

Not a massive drinker but, I like Tanqueray Seville, (you can get nice premix bottles of it now which when you're lightweight and lazy work great!). I like Bloom gin (often on offer) also Eden Mill, traditional batch gin, (comes in a earthenware bottle) you used to be able to get that in Aldi but I don't know if it's still a thing.

RandomMess · 17/03/2021 08:03

For anyone that isn't a gin lover the Beefeater Pink is divine - a refreshing summer drink.

Tanquery Seville is delicious too. I have tried so many now I can't remember!!! Yes Silent Pool is nice, Monkey? I need a notebook to rate them I think but not had a gin weekend in over a year unsurprisingly.

justilou1 · 17/03/2021 08:16

I love the Tanqueray Malacca Gin. (Less chemically and more multifunctional than the Seville - which is nice, but always Orange.) The Lemon one tasted like bug spray, though. Disappointed as I love lemon.

kingdomcapers · 17/03/2021 08:18

I don't know if Aldi stock any of the Scottish gins down South but Eden Mill is lovely, the original and the Love gin are best. Martin Miller is fab too (often on special price at Tesco)

blobby10 · 17/03/2021 08:38

StuckInPollyannaMode I was very impressed with the Lidl own brand of gin - think its called Horus. I had a citrus one which went down very well with non-fancy tonic (I can't get all the fuss about Fevertree either!)
Gloucester Brewery do a lovely Blood Orange gin and also a Rhubarb with something one. Don't usually like the flavoured stuff but these were yummy. Two Birds is a distillery local to me and they do one called Uncle Tom or something similar. - that has cinnamon base and is gorgeous.

I go into local wineshop and just check out their local/small batch gin range - don't pay ridiculous prices though. £30 for a bottle is more than enough Grin

katmarie · 17/03/2021 08:44

I once did a gin tasting evening, which was rather fun, and my favourite was the aberforths bathtub gin, which is pricey but very enjoyable. I'm also quite liking the fruity gins that are around qt the moment, I think they make a nice summer drink. I'm not fussy about tonic either, Schweppes works for me lol.

Clutterbugsmum · 17/03/2021 08:47

I'm glad you are looking at the bright side of life.

I can't help with the gin as I don't drink at all. But I hope you find some new ones you like.

To be honest my FIL and DH like whiskeys and when I have to buy it for them I go by whether it has a nice bottle or package Grin. Not entirely sure that's the best way to go.

As in I would Buy this one rather then this one.

gallileofigaro · 17/03/2021 08:48

Please try Kilty Gin, it's made by a friend of a friend and it's the best I've ever tried, smooth, clean and crisp and I'm not just saying that because of the link but because it's bloody good!

CongealedCrags · 17/03/2021 09:32

I am a fan of Brecon gin - but not the size of the bottle. Lidl's Horus is good, Sipsmith's lemon drizzle is lush and Ophir www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/285353514 is always on offer in Tesco.

Loads of gin reviews here: sexdeathrocknroll.com/?s=gin

CoolCatTaco · 17/03/2021 09:36

Jawbox is the best. Amazing with ginger.

billy1966 · 17/03/2021 10:11

I'm a Schweppes person too.
Hendricks is a lovely gin.
Aldi's Cromwell is very tasty also.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 17/03/2021 10:21

Try locksley gin

REignbow · 17/03/2021 10:36

If you are after something exotic from faraway shores, try ‘tanglin gin’. This is made and produced in Singapore and has won awards......but bloody pricey!

REignbow · 17/03/2021 10:49

Oops just realised that they don’t sell it in the uk (yet).

LizzieBananas · 17/03/2021 11:48

If you like Tanqueray, you should like Hendricks.

RobBeckettsTeeth · 17/03/2021 12:18

I'm a Schweppes girl too, or Tesco equivalent
I'm currently enjoying Gordon's orange gin. Their lemon is also good.

As for plain gin, Bothy Gin is exceptional, as is the raspberry gin jam!

TwoDrifters2 · 17/03/2021 12:19

The Malfy lemon gin is wonderful ice cold. Like a less cloyingly sweet limoncello.

Adnam’s Copper House has won awards and isn’t too pricey.

And the Isle of Harris and Japanese Roku gins have beautiful bottles, @Clutterbugsmum 😉

AdaThorne · 17/03/2021 12:39

I have never thought of looking in Lidl for gin! Possibly because I'm looking at the red wine on the other side of the aisle

It's Greek week from tomorrow. I might have to go for a visit - I forsee dolma, spanakopita, olives, baklava and gin in my life.

(And this is why despite working out more than I ever have I am not shifting any lockdown weight!).

Starbonnet123 · 17/03/2021 12:46

I was given this for Mother's Day , I've not tried it yet , it's cherry and almond gin liqueur by ginhouse . To be honest I'm not too sure what to mix it with ,if to mix it at all

He did the mash. The Geller mash.
drspouse · 17/03/2021 12:54

I've also heard good things about Horus, and I like Edinburgh gin too.

I need some Greek food Ada, all in all good reasons to get myself to Lidl.

CongealedCrags · 17/03/2021 12:59

Both Lidl and Aldi have Gin Weeks from time to time. Both have got a good selection normally.

Starbonnet if in doubt try lemonade. Or ginger ale.

StuckInPollyannaMode · 17/03/2021 15:50

I like Horus, and Hendricks - and also Gordon’s Pink Gin! Lots of lovely options to try 😂 also like it with ginger ale to mix it up.

Wine wise, have any of you tried Gavi de gavi? One of my favourite whites and Lidl do a super one! Morrisons have a cracking red on offer at the moment - Alzar Malbec

For the non drinkers, I absolutely love lime and soda BUT made with fresh lime juice. Mmmm.

Anyone tried Winter Pimms? Not had it for a couple of years but that was rather tasty.

Greek week you say? I see halloumi in my future....mmm

Roast gnocchi with dinner tonight, always makes me think of MN!

Corun gin if you fancy treating yourself, bit on the expensive side. Also BoÄ— do a peach and hibiscus gin and it is one of my favourite flavours (tried most Blush )

RandomMess · 17/03/2021 16:26

I may have to have a trip to Morrison's for the Malbec, how much is it???
