I can confirm he has purchased a masher. He sent me a picture of it and asked if it was alright Confused

@frazzledasarock ours is still very silo and each works in their mysterious way... wouldn't think we had our own leading Management School 🧐

Leaving the civil service to go there was like stepping backwards 2 decades in many ways 🤪

StuckInPollyannaMode · 01/04/2021 15:04

@frazzledasarock absolutely no worries to derail! Hopefully we’ve collectively found a solution that will help your daughter.

Kids playing out in the garden in the sun with friends and it is SOOOO nice to hear them giggling and talking away.

I just gradually changed back to my maiden name on everything.
Never had to show proof.
Schools always knew me as Miss ...
I got married and divorced young and didn't have a passport til after divorce.
It's great.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 01/04/2021 17:20

The easiest way is to get a deed poll to change your name. Just pop into a solicitor that has a notary thingy and they can do it in minutes. Then you just show the deed poll to the bank or whoever.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 01/04/2021 17:53
@Sicario do your DC have issues with school certificates? are they issued in their chosen name or their birth certificate name?

My eldest is desperate to change her name to mine, but I'm worried ait will be complicated with school and university
In the months before exams, we just check with all of the kids how their name should appear on their certificates. Some have 'English'/preferred/shortened names but want their full birth name on them, some refuse to have their mother's/father's/stepfather's name anymore, some choose to have their full double barrelled family name, some cut out part of it, some want both their birth name and their 'English'/preferred name included. It's not a problem. We have to change it on SIMS to match the examination entry name, that's all.

Same with parents who decide what they want to be addressed as. No skin off our nose to update SIMS from Mrs Polly Gellar-Theinsufferabletwat-Potato Head to Ms Polly Actuallyfuckingawesomereally.

frazzledasarock · 01/04/2021 18:23

Thank you @NeverDropYourMoonCup that’s good to know.

I’m going to let DD know she has options she’s been really really stewing over this.

AvantGardening · 01/04/2021 19:29

Just delurking to say (British) passports have a legal alias option. So if you might travel with the kids you could have it issued in your maiden name and claim your married name as a legal alias for the next renewal and drop it once they’re adults.

JSL52 · 01/04/2021 21:55

I've taken my daughter abroad with a different name and never been questioned.

harknesswitch · 02/04/2021 08:06

Me and my dh have different surname (I never changed my name when we married) and my kids have a different one to me too (my exh surname), so 3 different surnames.

I always take all the legal documents with us when we go abroad, should we get questioned at customs, but we never have

pointythings · 02/04/2021 11:18

My passport has always been in my (Dutch) maiden name. I've just always travelled with my DDs' birth certificates and my marriage certificate, just in case. Never needed it. Youngest is now 18, so that can all stop.

ATowelAndAPotato · 02/04/2021 11:54

@frazzledasarock just dropping in to let you know that you don’t need to pay anything to change your name by deed poll. It needs to be witnessed by two people who have known you a certain amount of time but they don’t have to be solicitors or anything.

RandomMess · 02/04/2021 12:02

@ATowelAndAPotato for certain things only a court stamped one is accepted which there is a small fee for.

You can actually call yourself anything you want without anything so long as it's not done to defraud. Just very difficult to open a bank account, get a passport, driving licence or job in my university or civil service without one!

ATowelAndAPotato · 02/04/2021 12:10

RandomMess ooh which certain things please? I haven’t come across any yet but done want to get caught out! Smile

RandomMess · 02/04/2021 13:11

I don't know exactly, work were adamant that's what I needed (rather than a free one) until i undated them with evidence that they had to accept my photo driving licence!!!

If you have a photo driving licence or passport in your new name I think you should be fine. Everything got stricter about 7 years ago due to money laundering.

DH doesn't have either although he has never changed his name and the hassle to move house!!

VictoriaBun · 02/04/2021 13:26

Back in 1999 when I divorced , I just went back to maiden name without any deed poll and from memory the gaff of sending birth certificates/ divorce ones off to banks or passport office. Perhaps in reality I'm still Mrs Dickhead 😂😂

RandomMess · 02/04/2021 13:39

Shock🤪😂

I wonder if reverted back to a maiden name is 'easier' than changing to a new name. All our records would show previous names at the bank for example.

I considered reverting to my maiden name when I divorced but then decided the kids may not like it. Dd said that she would change to my maiden name too if I did so I remained Mrs Dickhead so as not to cause yet more problems with the dickhead!

TwoDrifters2 · 02/04/2021 15:00

Procedures have probably changed now but when my father’s long-term affair with a family friend came out, I couldn’t bear to be known by his surname anymore and I simply walked up the road to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and told them I wanted to change my name.

I chose my mother’s maiden name in solidarity and moments later after signing a few forms, home I came. Job done.

My mother and sister were astonished I’d done it but my sister swiftly followed suit and then my mum reverted once the divorce was final until we all had the same surname.

I was 19 and knew what I wanted but still in retrospect I’m surprised how easy and fast it was and that no one told me to go home and think about it and be sure that’s what I wanted.

Anyway, never once regretted it!

Justilou1 · 02/04/2021 15:16

Here in Aus we can get our birth cert reissued instead. MUCH cheaper than going through deed poll. Can you do that there?

drspouse · 02/04/2021 16:06

You can't change your birth certificate in the UK - it's a record of your birth. Or do you just mean getting a copy?

frazzledasarock · 02/04/2021 17:39

I was looking into deed polls and we’re going to pay for the legal one as RandomMess said, apparently passport offices and the DVLA may not accept the free deed poll as proof.

I suppose it depends on how diligent the person doing your application is being.

DD has emailed her college and we’re going to contact UCAS next week.

We’re filling out the deed poll application today it’s will cost £45 which includes court fees and notice in the gazette as well as the deed poll itself. Small price for a happy kiddo.

DC2 has said she’s changing hers as soon as she hits 18.

And by that I bet you all can tell what an amazing dad twatface was.

Reverting back to maiden name is slightly different. It was only the passport I had problems with, and I ended up forming out a tenner for the marriage certificate to provide proof I was my maiden name.

And talk talk would not change my name without a copy of my divorce certificate. So I changed broadband provider because they annoyed me so much 😆

Good for you! That's one less customer...

Hope you all have a good Easter weekend! 🐣

@Daftapath
Who knew there are 2 Mr Dickheads in the world ! 😂😂

SewVeryLazy · 02/04/2021 23:29

You probably all know this already but I believe from encountering the situation at work that they only have to be 16 unless there is a court order specifically prohibiting a name change (incase that helps any of the younger siblings)
