Engagement ring much MUCH too small

Perhaps this belongs in Style and Beauty, I don’t know? I’m a bit stuck.

My new engagement ring is a 40 year old solitaire sapphire Tiffany ring in platinum. Flanked by 2 diamonds in the shank. RRP: insane.

It is size L. And my fat fingers are a whopping P by comparison.

I’m not in love with the idea of sending it away for resizing due to the value. So, I’m going to have to organise something in a few weeks.

I have this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that it will not be able to be resized by the required 4 sizes. What jeweller would even attempt it when they could damage something so expensive?

Just wondering if anyone else has any experience in this ball park?

Obviously, I have stopped eating, in case this helps the situation.CakeHaloGrin

I’m so happy to be engaged and the ring is just ridiculously beautiful but all I can do is look at the box. I’m worried I’ll never be able to wear it.

I don’t think there’s another one on eBay just like mine... can you share the link??

@Havana7

The same ring with the same pic has just been listed on eBay today, have you decided to sell?
I can’t see that at all?
Letsrunabath · 21/02/2021 16:50

I inherited a family solitaire engagement ring and took it to a well respected jewellers, because I needed to go up 3 sizes they explained they would reset the stone, it came back looking exactly as it went in only it now fitted me. I paid for the extra platinum and the work, well worth the money.

OmicronPersei7 · 21/02/2021 16:51

I think she’s probably looking at the listing that ended a few days ago...? (Mine)

Absolutely beautiful ring, OP. Good luck with the resizing 🍀

Siw2020 · 21/02/2021 16:53

OP, that ring is absolutely gorgeous. You lucky, lucky thing.

SeaToSki · 21/02/2021 16:54

From Tiffanys UK web site, maybe call them tomorrow and ask. I would be prepared to spend some money on more platinum as well as the labour charge

We are able to resize the majority of our ring styles; to know if your selected style can be resized and learn about timing and pricing, please contact our Client Care Centre on 0800 160 1837

That ring is stunning 😍

cheeseybean · 21/02/2021 16:59

Have you had it added to your insurance yet OP?
I have a 'RRP insane' ring and had to have special insurance for it with a clause that states it's only insured if on my finger, being carried on my person or in a suitably graded safe.
Please make sure it's covered, it's beautiful!

BungleandGeorge · 21/02/2021 17:03

He bought from ebay? Did he have it verified by a jeweller? Did you get the original Tiffany certificate of authentication?

VettiyaIruken · 21/02/2021 17:03

That ring is so beautiful. I hope it can be resized for you.

I only have the diamond certificate. It didn’t come with any certificate for the sapphires or platinum but it is hallmarked.

@Viviennemary

Size L is tiny. Please don't attempt to slim down into it. If it's worth a lot resizing by 4 sizes could devalue it as could making a new band. Its something you will have to discuss with your partner. I agree with taking it to Tiffanys and see what they suggest.
That made me giggle... my DP got me a size L, and I had to exchange it for a J!
MrsMackesy · 21/02/2021 17:30

Tiffany can do it and will first also confirm authenticity, value and age.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 21/02/2021 17:35

I called Tiffany (as we don't have a store anywhere near us) and they sent me a pre paid and addressed UPS package for me to send my rings to them for work to be done on them. Insured for £50k by them. Worth a call to them to see what's possible when they're open?

jomeow1 · 21/02/2021 17:37

@OmicronPersei7 Cartier jewellery is registered to a specific person, logged on their system in relation to the item. So you need identification if you send it off

Not sure if Tiffany would be the snaps!

BungleandGeorge · 21/02/2021 17:37

The first thing I’d do is get it verified, before any PayPal/ credit card guarantee runs out!

Yes it’s registered to an individual I believe

Exhausteddog · 21/02/2021 17:40

I think it should be easy for a jeweller to resize.
The value of Tiffany jewellery is in the name and advertising, so a good jeweller should be able to resize it without a problem.

georgarina · 21/02/2021 17:44

If it's a solitaire it should be able to be resized without too much hassle? Definitely get in touch with Tiffany and see what they suggest

Agreed.
grecianurn82 · 21/02/2021 17:56

Sorry no advice but its a beautiful ring.

Staringouttosea · 21/02/2021 18:05

My partner is a jeweller and has said there would be no issue getting that ring resized.

Congrats on the engagement 💕

This 100%

Butternutsqoosh · 21/02/2021 18:18

That is absolutely beautiful and mine is very similar although not Tiffany or massive value. I've taken items to Tiffany before and they really are excellent with repairs etc, definitely your first port of call
