We had a ONS just before lockdown and have been chatting since. He added me on FB today.

What a disappointment GrinGrin

Thought I was the only person who can't stand those awful, cringy so called inspirational posts! Especially the ones where the poster tries to make themselves seem all mysterious and deep with images of wolves peering out of the mist! Hilarious!
Although I do think the poor guy deserves a chanceSmile

Haffiana · 16/06/2020 15:39

I can see that all the posters who LOVE the brain-dead, inane, sanctimony-signalling 'inspirational' shite are outing themselves... And oddly enough are being touchy arseholes about it, which surely proves that the quotes do not actually improve anything.

OP, run for the hills!

catinb0oots · 16/06/2020 15:48

Hang on let me find it

Thanks for the link.... what a giggle

Haretodaygonetomorrow · 16/06/2020 16:03

Oh god. What a turn off. Those quotes people post are naff beyond belief.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 16/06/2020 17:47

This is my favourite.

Run for the hills, OP.

That would make my ovaries shrivel too OP GrinHalo

LockdownLou · 16/06/2020 18:45

Oh no OP, you need to bin him off Grin

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 16/06/2020 18:57

Maybe has some letters above his bath saying B A T H.

NoMoreDickheads · 16/06/2020 22:39

@FiddlefigOnTheRoof He probably needs them.

And fridge magnet letters- not ironic/hipster tho, just really proud that he can spell 'Mum.'

whywhywhy6 · 16/06/2020 22:52

Run OP. Don’t make contact, just run.

Needsomehelphere · 17/06/2020 05:15

@catinb0oots

They're literally several times a day. Who are you? A 60 year old woman called Jackie? (No offence to lovely, normal Jackies)
I’m having a bad time at the moment and this made me laugh...thanks Cat!
Alittleshortforaspacepooper · 17/06/2020 05:28

Awe, I've always rather liked the fridge magnet letters - it's wonderful being able to write "silly cunt face" on the fridge and then when MIL comes over and points it out you do a faux flustered look and say "oooh, it must have been one of your naughty grandchildren!"

Casino218 · 17/06/2020 05:30

Yep totally understand op. Those quote things turn my stomach. DHs sisters constantly post them and they do my nut in. Get rid but first tell him why because he needs to know he's a dick.

AgentProvocateur · 17/06/2020 05:40

Says it all, really Wink

nearlynermal · 17/06/2020 06:30

OP, perhaps you should counter with some of your own and see if he takes it in stride. For example, words I like to live by:

Work when somebody's watching
Dance like it hurts
Make love like you need the money

Ilovetheseventies · 17/06/2020 07:17

Yes can't stand the quotes, so tacky.
My sil has them all over the house. I'd had a very tiring day and decided to put my feet up. I looked up and read on the wall.
"time is precious, use it wisely"
I thought can't I even get a break from these quotes for 5 minutes!!
They are very condescending and meaningless.
Live, love laugh well most of us are trying to live a happy life. We don't need others telling us what we should and shouldn't be doing. We will look back and laugh at them in a few years. Some of us already are Smile

@Alittleshortforaspacepooper Yes, a wall-to-wall inspirational quote poster wouldn't do that though, as it shows you have an independent/active mind.

TopLipTash · 17/06/2020 13:57

I know this isn't AIBU but YANBU. Can't stand trite shit.

Nekoness · 17/06/2020 14:10

That idiotic quote about dying in a day made me remember something

Anyone ever watch Joe Lycett talk about inspirational quotes and how you can say profoundly sounding things that are completely meaningless?

borntohula · 17/06/2020 17:02

So sorry, OP. Very disappointing. I bet he has 'live, laugh, love' signs in his house too.

Pangur2 · 17/06/2020 17:08

@Nekoness you beat me to it! Joe Lycett’s stuff about inspirational quotes is brilliant. OP maybe link to some of his tweets or standup and see what your potential fella does, haha.
The Royal Academy of Arts Twitter feed was also doing some gas stuff with Live Laugh Love. I’ll see if I can find it.

billy1966 · 17/06/2020 17:37

I found the constant stream of positive quotes that I received during the early weeks of the pandemic both depressive and irritable.

Feeling so turned off by them made me feel worse again.🙄
