Hello, following a thread where I discussed how happy and excited I was to have consciously decided to be single for 2020, it seems there are loads of us out there: People who are single through choice and happy about it.

Some plan on being single forever, some for a shorter time, but none of us are dating or want to date at the moment. We are too busy focusing on the important things in life: us!

This is a thread for anyone who wants to join it, to support and encourage each other, to discuss what we have or hope to learn by being single, and to discuss random practical stuff, like which companies don't charge single supplements for holidays.

Come on in and pull up a chair if you fancy a chat.

How are you guys finding each other on FB? I'm old in internet terms but newish to MN lol and always feel like I'm missing tricks

Does anyone else share their double bed with a giant stack of books?! I sleep mostly in the middle, but often find the side against the wall fills up with books... I think this is a perk of singlehood because I don't remember keeping books in my bed when I was sharing with a bloke!

9-5 was brilliant. Would recommend. I spent the whole evening laughing with my friend. One is the key messages in the musical was strong independent women. I know it's a cliche but it's true. And it made me think of this thread. Together we're stronger!

@interestedwoman I'm with you. I've spent all my adult life pleasing my "other halves"... and I've been let down. So this year- at least- it's about indulging myself for a change! As the adverts say, when the fun stops- stop.

I agree about ending things when the fun stops. Life is just too bloody short to put up with shite. Someone put an amazing post on FB about men not having to compete with other men to get women, but they are actually competing with a happy woman's single comfort zone. So true!

I don't go for manly, alpha men, I like men a bit beta and not all big and hairy and broad - I don't need protecting, I can do that for myself, I like a man who can talk intelligently. But those young lads look as though they'd be all about Insta and Snapchat and 'how gorgeous do I look today?'

I do not need competition in the 'how gorgeous do I look today' stakes...

Oooh I like big and hairy men, but intelligent ones. I can't be doing with thick men. I like to talk too much.

Having said that, my fantasy sandwich is me between Jason Mamoa and The Rock. And I couldn't give a shit if they are thick 😂😂

Actually I've rather lost my taste for men, so I shall opt out of this one. If there are any sandwiches to be had, I'd quite like some nice cheese in mine, or maybe a fried egg.
