So my husband has gone off today to get a cover up tattoo done. He's just sent me a picture of what he's having done and it's a woman's face! Now I appreciate he's limited to what he's having done because it's a cover up of an old tattoo but I feel really annoyed that he's going to have this beautiful woman's face on his arm forever! I asked him how he'd feel if I had a tattoo of a random man on my arm but I don't think he gets why I'm pissed off. What do you think?

It's a very very common tattoo for men. As long as it's not a picture of Sue from next door it wouldn't bother me.

Unless it's someone he knows then it's fine. No different from buying an art print with a generically beautiful woman on it.

Well, I think it’s weird because who has the face of a random woman tattooed on them? Your partner, daughter, sister or mum - sure, I can get on board with that. A celebrity you really like and think is attractive? Again, sure, I’m not a jealous of possessive type and am quite comfortable with the idea that my partner might find other women interesting or attractive. That in itself wouldn’t bother or threaten me.

But some flash tattoo of a woman's face?? Why?? The idiot is setting himself up for a lifetime of people saying “ooh, I like your tattoo, is it your wife/daughter?” and he’ll have to gormlessly reply that no, it’s just some face if some unidentified woman he saw in a tattoo shop wall.

That’s the bit that would bother me, the sheer idiocy.

I'm a little surprised at the outrage? If he was getting Sandra from work tattooed on his arm then I get it, but it's a random woman's face so I'm not sure what the problem is?

Is it a cartoony type or a photorealistic (aka deeply terrifying) one?

I wouldn't say it's the same as having a woman's portrait from an art collector I wouldn't like it

I used to go out with a bloke that had 1950s pin up type women all over him. Didn't bother me... it's a fairly common thing to have done tbh. Did you not talk about it before he had it done

It sounds tasteless to me, but then I'm not a fan of tattoos so I tend to think the smaller, the better. If I had a tattooed DH who was regretting a tattoo, I'd rather save up to pay for getting it lasered off altogether.

Tbh I'm shocked how much it's bothered me because I'm not the jealous type at all. I just find it weird that he would want that. It's there forever and people are bound to ask who it is! I can just imagine his reaction if I had a random man tattooed on my arm!!

I’m not sure I’d be happy about this tbh but did you not ask him what he was going to get done before he got it??

@WhoKnewBeefStew we did discuss it before and never did we mention another woman's face! I've just gone through the Pinterest's we saved and there is nothing even remotely similar.

I can see why it’s annoyed you. But coming from a heavily tattooed couple it’s not uncommon. I’m not sure why it’s a thing but I have a women tattooed on myself 😂. Assuming it’s better than what he’s getting covered it’s not because he fancy’s this face

I don't think you'd have to be described as jealous to not be happy with this choice of tattoo... it's such a strange choice of tattoo.. particularly as it's not someone infamous like Marilyn Monroe.. or the inspirational Rosa Parks .. or even Betty Boop...

I can’t say it ever occurred to me to have any feelings over I like it or I don’t like it. I dislike photo realistic tattoos anyway so I’d dislike it on that front.

What's the worst that can happen? You're worried that... I'm trying to imagine the worst case scenario. What? Another person asks him who his tattoo is of....? And youd feel what... as if you're somehow less of a person? because of... a tattoo.

Is that literally the worst thing that could happen? Do you not have enough respect, trust and love in your relationship, is that why something this random takes on significance? I can't imagine how bad things are between you, if this even pings your radar.

How delicate can one person's self image be??
