AIBU - Husbands tattoo

So my husband has gone off today to get a cover up tattoo done. He's just sent me a picture of what he's having done and it's a woman's face! Now I appreciate he's limited to what he's having done because it's a cover up of an old tattoo but I feel really annoyed that he's going to have this beautiful woman's face on his arm forever! I asked him how he'd feel if I had a tattoo of a random man on my arm but I don't think he gets why I'm pissed off. What do you think?

Is it this one?

It would totally depend on the style. I really like the old style sailor type ones of female figures. If it's a photorealistic type thing then everyone is going to ask who it is and he's going to feel a twat after a while saying err nobody really.

What is the style?

FizzyGreenWater · 09/11/2019 17:20

Oh just saw that you say it's NOT cartoon style (ie a bit like the image posted just above). If it's realistic greyscale type thing then urgh! They look HORRIBLE.

Moondancer73 · 09/11/2019 17:26

I really don't see the issue. It's not a real person, and even if it was a celebrity it wouldn't bother me. My ex had his ex wife's name on his leg - x loves x - and it never concerned me in the slightest. It's a picture. Get over it

sonjadog · 09/11/2019 17:48

I wouldn't be angry or jealous or anything, I would just find it a little... odd. Why some random woman's face? If he meets someone in the pub who looks just like her a Christmas, how is he going to explain it? Did it have to be a face to cover up what was there before and if so, why not then choose someone in particular's face?

Jiggles101 · 09/11/2019 17:48

I have a 'random woman's' face tattoo. It's not a photo realistic style but not exactly cartoonish either.

She represents the 'divine feminine' and the powerful female energy that's such an influence in my life and career.

Obviously not everyone likes tattoos and that's fine, wouldn't occur to me that anyone would be jealous of one though!

shas19 · 09/11/2019 18:01

My fiance has a set of 3 outlined womens body on the back of his calve and an almost like geisha on his arms. Doesn't bother me! They look good and its no body we know

HotSince82 · 09/11/2019 18:03

I would hate it.
If that makes me insecure, well fine.
I've been called worse.

PotteringAlong · 09/11/2019 18:05

Is it better or worse than what he had before?

Clarinet53 · 09/11/2019 18:43

I understand that the thought would bother you however, there are 'flash' faces that you will see on many people.

I think that depending what needed to be covered up it would dictate what could be used as a cover up. A good tattoo artist would have been able to come up with ideas.

BingoLittlesUncle · 09/11/2019 18:47

But what's the alternative? Keep what he's already got (which clearly isn't an option or he wouldn't be having this done) or get it turned into some unsightly "abstract" mess. If he's having an existing tattoo covered up, he's pretty limited in what he can have, surely.

emilybrontescorsett · 09/11/2019 18:50

I'd find it odd.
Tbh I think those types of tattoos are incredibly naff and chavy.

PumpkinP · 09/11/2019 18:50

I wouldn’t like it

FizzyGreenWater · 09/11/2019 18:58

Might be that whatever he's covering up will ONLY be blotted out by a giant sized Tattoo Fixers type gurner. Eeek.

IndianaMoleWoman · 09/11/2019 19:04

Have you seen the episode of The X Files where a man gets a woman tattooed on his arm and she comes to life and makes him kill people? Just saying...

In all seriousness it’d annoy me too, particularly if it was an a place that would be conspicuous during, ahem, certain bedroom situations. Not what I’d want to be looking at.

PippiDeLena · 09/11/2019 19:08

Why didn't he get his existing tattoo lasered off instead of having a random cover up tattoo that doesn't mean anything to him?

MitziK · 09/11/2019 19:24

What did he have before?

A random portrait of a generic female might be a huge improvement.

I'm a fan of Old School tattoos, myself. But then again, I know somebody who got a cover up that was her own face as a zombie and another that has a shitty Arnold Schwartzenegger/Terminator one slapped across her calf, so I've seen some pretty fucking weird ones in my time.

MrsFoxPlus4Again · 09/11/2019 20:16

A lot of people have tattoos with no significant meaning.

Fatted · 09/11/2019 20:24

My DH has two with women's faces on them. I'm genuinely not bothered by them and never really thought of them as anything other than just a picture, in the same way you'd have a painting on the wall.

I was more upset when he considered getting another one that has special meaning to us covered up.

highheelsandweathercocks · 09/11/2019 20:25

@LipSyncForYourLife That Bianca tattoo is amazing! Can instantly tell it's her before even reading the text.

highheelsandweathercocks · 09/11/2019 20:30

Back to the thread.
I'm also on Team 'as long as it isn't Sue from next door'. He's the one who has to have the tattoo on his body so the only person that needs to be happy with it is him. It could be that the ones you have on your Pinterest board wouldn't work as a cover up, so he and the artist have discussed it and come up with an alternative that will work and that your DH is happy with.
Sorry OP. You can be as unhappy about it as you like. It's nothing to do with you.

Meneenamenana · 09/11/2019 21:56

I have a woman’s face tattooed on me, neo traditional style. There’s nothing it it. It wouldn’t bother me if DP had it, and the comment about not seeing it in a bedroom situation amused me - he has massive realistic portraits of his children tattooed on him and I don’t notice then during sex!

NotStayingIn · 10/11/2019 14:01

Hi @Cornishmaid77 did he get it done? Hope you are both happy with it.

BumbleBeee69 · 10/11/2019 14:05

Yes to be fair, I'm curious as to how it turned out. Flowers

simone1863 · 10/11/2019 14:18

We have a woman who swallowed the fly situation here. What can he cover this tattoo up with though?

A horse? Jupiter? Grin
