Dating thread rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize - they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Do unto others as you would have them do to you.

And a reminder - you don't know them until you know them!

Great news rich

MovemberBlues · 07/12/2018 14:00

rich I am beyond pleased for you but my inner killjoy says - don't be late for work for anyone!!!

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 14:08

It's immaterial now anyway - he's gone off in a huff because I said no to him coming to my house at 1am tomorrow morning. He's the second one to ask that. And get funny when I insist on a public meet first.

Even if you were comfortable with a stranger coming to your house, surely you’d not choose 1am for that. I can’t imagine they get many takers tbh.

Sounds like you’ve had quite a morning @richdeniro. Wink

I agree with @DaffoDeffo on the ‘I prefer giving’ claim. That would go in the ‘I’ll believe it when I see it pile’. That said, I think I probably do prefer giving (at the moment anyway). Blush And that isn’t to say that the BF isn’t very good at it, either. In any case, reciprocal enjoyment of giving and receiving is probably what most of us are looking for in a relationship.

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 14:10

my inner killjoy says - don't be late for work for anyone!!!

That’s probably good advice.

MyOldBrainStoppedWorking · 07/12/2018 14:17

I'd also assume oral, unless you're wearing a great big strap-on in any of your pictures 🧐 PMSL wishywashy.
On the advice of this thread, my profile is very boringly normal, just has the word 'fun' in it. No dodgy pictures. I'm on Badoo - there are a lot of weirdos there.

But it's ok, Mr Oral has come back and offered to visit me at 9am on Monday morning. Could be interesting if he's visiting me at work !

MyOldBrainStoppedWorking · 07/12/2018 14:19

rich great news, sounds like things are going well. But I agree with the 'don't be late for work' advice.

Why do some females love having a partner that can't do anything?
They organise everything and cook and clean and do the driving at the weekends.
Bluegh rather be forever single Angry
They just want a pet?

JeSuisPrest · 07/12/2018 14:23

@thelaststraw123 Sounds fab - best of luck for date number 2

@richdeniro So pleased for you Grin

@Pushreset How are things going with texting? Has he upped his game?

Things are still going well with MrAbs - 3 weeks and counting. Seeing him tomorrow night for date number 7, then we won't meet for a week as I'm working abroad. He's going through some tough stuff at the moment with his DF being terminally ill (and living abroad) but he continues to be a complete sweetheart. I've definitely fallen for him . I think/hope the feeling is mutual. We'll see what a week apart does...

wishywashy6 · 07/12/2018 14:25

PMSL wishywashy.

Haha badoo is full of weirdos yes! But it's also where I met my boyfriend so I can't say anything too bad about it 😆

@TwiceMagic I prefer giving too 🤷🏼‍♀️ always have

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 14:28

I think some people are just incredibly controlling. One common manifestation of this (that aligns with how women are usually socialised) is for women to convince themselves that they must ‘do everything’ because their partner is so ‘useless’. But actually it allows them to control almost every aspect of the whole family’s lives. They don’t really want their partner to do anything because (1) that might mean that he’d exercise his own choices and do things his way and (2) then they couldn’t play the bloody martyr.

You see it on MN all the time. So many threads of it.

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 14:30

I keeps seeing the advice you post here and on other threads @wishywashy6 and thinking ‘that’s pretty much what I would say’. 😂

It sounds like it’s going so well with Mr Abs @JeSuisPrest. From what you’ve posted, it does sound like he’s as smitten as you are.

Apparentlyacatch · 07/12/2018 14:32

Ok so my date cancelled tonight because of work, it was our 4th date and I know it can't be helped but I'm gutted Sad he is apologetic but that doesn't make me feel any better about it. Oh well night on the sofa with a pizza for me then!

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 14:33

Obviously I’d never say to anyone on OLD (or anyone I wasn’t already in a relationship with) that I prefer giving. Because that would only encourage selfish arseholes. 😆

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 14:39

Sorry to hear your date’s been cancelled @Apparentlyacatch. Have you rearranged?

MyOldBrainStoppedWorking · 07/12/2018 14:42

wishywashy I've seen you mention Badoo quite a bit so I thought I'd try it. A lot of men on there that I haven't seen on other apps.

JeSuis that sounds great with Mr Abs. A week apart will seem like a long time!

Apparentlyacatch · 07/12/2018 14:42

twice he's just asked if we can do sat night instead which I can, I sound like a brat moaning about it being cancelled for tonight but I was just so excited to see him!

But tomorrow night isn't far away so I'll look forward to that

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 15:22

You don't sound like a brat. You just sound excited.

wishywashy6 · 07/12/2018 15:29

@TwiceMagic 😂😂 same here

coolcahuna · 07/12/2018 15:59

daffo, I'm with you that there's no point looking around until you know what's happening with Mr D one way or another. Just because he wants you to be thing, he has to actually back it up with some actions. Hopefully when you get back from travels, he will step up to the plate. Its really hard to move on to anyone else when a piece of your heart is elsewhere.

apparently, its great he's rearranged already and Saturday night dates are the best!

I'm seeing M rIce tomorrow for first date and I'm excited/nervous about this one. He does seem lovely on text so lets see. He's also coming to my neck of the woods which is nice :-).

Mr Ex is annoying me, he said about meeting up tomorrow and then said he couldn't, and now he's saying Sunday which I can't do. Its getting tedious already.

Pushreset · 07/12/2018 16:18

@JeSuisPrest the texting is going OK. I didn't cave in and he msgd to see if I was OK in the end. He's still not himself really... No real conversation at the mo, not even any flirting going on. I think he's ill with all the stress to be honest. I'm going to give it till after Xmas and see if he gets back to normal as I know its a hard time of year.

Sounds great with Mr Abs! Maybe the week apart will be the best thing... Missing each other and all that? See how date goes tomorrow night, must be hard for him too with so much going on with his father. Is he still texting to check in with you regularly?

TwiceMagic · 07/12/2018 16:23

Argh. I'm having dress-related problems for my work christmas party tonight. Rather than a date, even though my BF and I are going to get ready together and go to separate parties and then come home together tonight.

I bought a nice new dress but it needed ironing because I bought it online. So I tried to iron it (on cool, on the reverse, like it said) and burnt a big hole in the material. So obviously I can't wear that. So I looked in my wardrobe. I have a black dress that I wore last year but the zip appears to be broken. I have a red dress that's too big (way too big). I have a purple dress that's only suitable for work (if I were a corporate lawyer; I use it for job interviews).

So I've managed to dig out a probably too dressy dress (given the general divey-ness of where I'm actually going) that I've had since I was 22. I can fit into it, although it is a bit tight on the chest (presumably I did not have breasts at 22). Or I can wear one of the quirky dresses I wear in the daytime and dress it up with glittery tights and jewellery. Or I can wear my standard skirt and vest, looking OK outfit (which I'd wear for dates). Gah. This is a pain in the arse.

coolcahuna · 07/12/2018 16:34

Skirt and vest option sounds good twicemagic, bling it up with the tights and jewellery

JeSuisPrest · 07/12/2018 17:42

@Pushreset Argh, at giving things time - rather you than me. I have absolutely no patience and want everything right this minute - it's a terrible character flaw of mine. Yes, we are still messaging each other. I still get a stupid grin every time his name shows up on my phone - if mobile phones had been around when I was a teenager I doubt I would have got any homework done Grin

@Pushreset Most impressed you can fit into a dress you wore at 22!

JeSuisPrest · 07/12/2018 17:42

Sorry @TwiceMagic about the dress.
